![]() By Zachary Keck October 8, 2013 The Philippines is building a new naval base in the South China Sea amid growing tensions with China, Philippine officials told local and international media outlets for the first time last week. The new naval base will be located on Oyster Bay, “a postcard-perfect cove on Palawan Island,” according to Reuters. Oyster Bay is 550 km (340 miles) southwest of Manila, the Filipino capitol city, and just 160 km (100 miles) from the Spratly Islands, a fiercely contested area in the South China Sea. Talking to Reuters about the Oyster Bay base for the first time last week, Commodore Joseph Rostum O. Peña, commander of the Philippines' western navy, said “It will be a mini-Subic,” a reference to the large air and naval bases the U.S. used to maintain in the Philippines before the parliament voted to expel Washington from the country in 1991. It was the United States’ largest military installation in Southeast Asia. Read more |

We direly need this, the NAVY is fast in its acquisition with almost every year more than 1 ship or boat/craft is delivered. If all gets signed this year 2 ssv and 2 frigates may arrive almost simultaneously |

This should be accompanied by development and livelihood projects for the local community. Not just a military base but a future commercial and fishing hub and base for expansion into the KIG. The day we see ordinary Filipinos regularly plying their livelihood in its waters is the day we can call the WPS securely ours. |

Perhaps they oppose this move because their masters allow them to fish in Scarborough Shoal? Send them to China! Even better send them to the worker's paradise - North Korea. |

From the article:
Ideology aside, this Mr. France must be a total -----. As long as the pertinent laws are followed, building a base for the Philippine Navy in Palawan does not in violate the 1987 Constitution. He can question the validity of a VFA agreement with the US but building a mini-Subic for the PN is, in fact, helping enforce the 1987 Constitution. |

Pamalakaya never released any news regarding problems of the fishermen whose livelihood was taken away by the Chinese when they are not allowed to enter the SCS area. They did not focused on that and then they focused on the Naval base construction? Oh well, leftist are leftist. Everything the government do is wrong to them. So F#*@ them!
