A notice posted on the embassy’s website said: “The Visa Office of the Consular Section of the Chinese Embassy will be closed on Wednesday, 24 July 2013 for security reasons.”

Filipino groups will mount simultaneous protests on Wednesday in Manila and in several countries and capitals where China has a diplomatic mission to denounce what it calls China’s violation of international law and bullying of the Philippines.

Part of Makati road closed for protest vs 'China bullying' in West PHL Sea
July 24, 2013 11:36am

A part of a major road in Makati City was closed to traffic before noon Wednesday, to make way for a protest in front of the Chinese consular office.

The protest organized by the West Philippine Sea Coalition was the highlight of a "global day of action" against China's supposed bullying of the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea, radio dzBB's Mao dela Cruz reported.

Police teams also secured the area along Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue in front of the Chinese Consular Office, where the protesters gathered for the activity.

Also at the site were firefighters and rescue teams.

Vehicles passing through the area were asked to take alternate routes.

The protest for Wednesday aimed to raise the international community's awareness of China's attempts to occupy several areas in the West Philippine Sea, including Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal.

The Philippines had taken China's bullying to international arbitration.

Simultaneous protests were scheduled in front of Chinese consulates in other places such as New York, San Francisco, Sydney, Hong Kong, and Vancouver. —KG, GMA News

In support of 'Global Day of Action,' activists rally in front of the Chinese consulate in Makati City on Wednesday, July 24, to demand China's pullout from the disputed Spratly Islands in the West Philippine Sea. The protesters also called for China's recall of their vessels from the area.

Filipinos, Vietnamese protest China’s territorial claims
MANILA, Philippines — Hundreds of protesters, including some Vietnamese, have gathered to protest China’s claims to much of the territory in the South China Sea.
Waving Philippine flags and blowing horns, the protesters massed Wednesday in front of a building housing the Chinese consulate. The Chinese consulate closed its visa office due to the protest.
The crowd of about 500 was watched by police anti-riot squads
