Hernandez said, "We will see in the coming days how this will play out,” referring to the grand Chinese fishing fleet that will help themselves to Philippine owned fishes in its EEZ. Well, don't hold your breath. Nothing will play out. The Chinese will deplete Philippine fisheries further by the tons and the PN and PCG will just be made to watch. The next time the Chinese fleet will get even bigger and bigger until the Filipinos starve. Meanwhile, the DND will continue to look for bargains of new "warships" to be delivered a few years from now.......we hope when a contract is made. Maestrales, Soldatis and Bremens are in Europe ready to "rock and roll" within a few months of refurbishment while the DND is taking its sweet time. If u ask me, I will use whatever warships is available now and i will shoot if u have to. That's what soldiers and sailors are for- defending their territory. Let the chips fall were they may. from philstar: a US professor and expert in maritime laws and security issues called China’s nine-dash line concept “preposterous” and not in Beijing’s interest. “The nine-dash line has absolutely zero basis in international law and ocean’s law” and is “defenseless,” said John Norton Moore, Walter L. Brown law professor and director of the Center for National Security Law and of the Center for Oceans Law and Policy at the University of Virginia School of Law. Unfortunately, no one has ever accused China of being rational. Their "preposterous" nine-dash line claim should be shoved up their collective arse. - Up where the sun doesn't shine is where it should stay. Although a lot of us here would agree to this, the downside is that with their brains in close proximity to their arses, speaking crap would seem to be the norm for them.

And lose in the end? Why not get the blessing of U.N. and smash those chinks together with U.S. and other potential allies? |

Wait for a consortium of allied warships? The Phil. may be wait 'till hell freezes over'. Are the mobile launchers ready to launch? I'd go with just that as back-up. |

The Chinese had decided that they can rob the Filipinos in day light because they know the Philippines will not fight in any way, and therefore they will not have to bare the burden or be stigmatized by having to confront and/or shoot. They see the Phil. resources as free for the taking just by showing a minimum intimidation. That being said, can anyone blame the Chinese for doing what they are doing if the Filipinos will not lift a finger to defend their territorial water? Maybe perhaps the blame is with the Philippine leadership itself. It's as if you live your door open even at night and thieves know that you would be unable to fight them off because of a handicap (self-sustained at that). Can you blame the thieves for theft if all you need is to put up a sign, "Please rob me; I promise I won't fight." |

"Wait for a consortium of allied warships?" This is a good observation by Wily, When our generals and leaders will stop daydreaming and always leaning to uncle Sam thru MDT. Kraith2 and Hong have several corvettes, missile boat and frigates recommendation..(small but well armed combination). which really the best combination i have read in this forum..Visby, Skoljd..etc. Hope those strategy will impact their brainless decision and media papogi... I don't think so China will just sleep and let UNLOS judge to award the spratly islands to the Philippines. The flotilla is a mere bullying tactics and let Unlos feel that they are not affected with Philippines strategy.. plus chinese are known for lobbying and bribery..hope those assigned are with pure heart and conscience.. Why not counter them by sending also a flotilla of filipino fishermans..no escorts..so trained them how to do maneuver and defense...supplies problem...another flotilla will waiting in pangasinan, while the first one is getting back the second flotilla is leaving for scarborough and another leaving in palawan, i dont think their escorts could harrass all with regards to distance:fire: |

Precisely my point...we can wait for the judgement that will be handed down by UNCLOS but in the meantime we have to be vigilant and police our own territory. The Chinese will just continue to bully us unless we make our presence felt by sending in our coast guard if they do enter our 200 EEZ. I would like to agree with the idea of sending in our own fishermen in the area but with an escort. Those chinese boats will just pass by and let the waves do the damage to the small bancas of our fishermen
