Maybe the US should follow Niccolo Machiavelli's advise when it comes to alliances, or they may already have. For now they like to show they remain neutral, but recent statements by a US Defence official is already giving us hints on where they might stand if and when conflict arises. Just like I mentioned in my previous post, China will not be seen as a bully, but rather the Philippines as a little trouble maker.

Currently, the US doesn't want to take sides in this very serious issue, and this does not reflect well for them. They try to build up good relations with us, which lulls us in to some sense of security, while trying to appease China. If you take Machiavelli's teachings, I would rather have the US choose their side now rather than the last minute. If they pledge they're behind us all the way, then great. The US would show they have been a true friend and ally all along. If they choose to side with China, then so be it. We'll do it on our own, but that P75 billion 5 year budget will have to be doubled, even tripled.

MACHIAVELLI on ALLIANCES

XXI:40-47) A prince is also esteemed when he shows himself a true friend or a true enemy, that is, when, without reservation, he takes his stand with one side or the other. This is always wiser than trying to be neutral, for if two powerful neighbours of yours fall out they are either of such sort that the victor may give you reason to fear him or they are not. In either case it will be better for you to take sides and wage an honest war.

XXI:72-81) if the prince chooses his side boldly, and his ally wins, even though the latter be powerful and the prince be at his mercy, nonetheless there is a bond of obligation and friendship...if your ally be the loser then he will welcome you and, as long as he can, he will give you aid...

III:111-114) one,,,must make himself a leader and defender of his less powerful neighbours and strive to weaken the stronger ones...

XIX:13-15) a prince will be despised if he is considered changeable, frivolous...cowardly, or irresolute...

In fairness to the US, they have their hands full in the middle east and quite frankly I think it's justified if they prioritize the middle-east than what is going-on in asia-pacific.

They are stretched to the limit and it's really erry the similarities between the British empire and the current US empire.

A collapse in PH, US relationship by not siding with us in the end would be more of a disaster for the US Foreign Policy in general, that would create a chain reaction which also maybe what China is very eagerly waiting for to happen, (US)their allies to lose faith and trust in them and change side.

How can the philippines become a "little trouble maker" if they are the one being aggravated here by stealing their territories? The US doesn't have to go to war in defense of the philippines, but the least they could do is to help arm the philippines.

"No mama, no papa, here we are the battling bastards of Bataan".

Don't you fret. You were never alone. The Poles, the Czechs and the Slovaks were in the same situation as you were. It happened before, it will happen again. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can cut that umbilical cord which hinders your growth. Rise up and show them what you are made of.

:rifle:

Are they your allies? Will they stand next to you like you did to them? Will they ever return the bells of Balangiga or shall it remain in a US Army museum as a reminder of their victory over their staunch ally in the east?

It never slipped my mind but the so-called US pivot to asia-pacific will take several years and multiple US Presidents.
