MANILA – The European Union and Germany have expressed concern about the future of freedom of navigation in the South China Sea as the emerging superpower China flexes its muscle in the region.

Asked about Germany’s concern in the region regarding China’s recent plan to stop and board foreign ships passing by its claimed territorial waters within its nine-dash line principle, German Ambassador to the Philippines Dr. Joachim Heidorn said: “We are in favor of the traditional law as regards to the law of the sea. We are in favor of keeping the lanes free without any hindrance. Any dispute should be resolved peacefully through dialogue.”

Although EU Ambassador to the Philippines Guy Ledoux prefers that the EU home office in Brussels respond to the specific question on China’s action, he noted that a “significant” 25 percent of EU’s trade in Asia passes through the seas southeast of China and west of the Philippines.

“The freedom of navigation is a very important issue for the EU, including the South China Sea,” Ledoux said.

So nice to hear our European friends reacting positively in our favors.

Germany should send history books to China and remind them what will happen if you keep claiming territories that is not yours.
