By Manuel Mogato MANILA | Thu Nov 22, 2012 4:58am EST (Reuters) - The Philippines and Vietnam condemned Chinese passports containing a map of China's disputed maritime claims on Thursday, branding the new design a violation of their sovereignty. The map means countries disputing the Chinese claims will have to stamp microchip-equipped passports of countless visitors, in effect acquiescing to the Chinese point of view. Stand-offs between Chinese vessels and the Philippine and Vietnamese navies in the South China Sea have become more common as China increases patrols in waters believed to hold vast reserves of oil and natural gas. "The Philippines strongly protests the inclusion of the nine-dash lines in the e-passport as such image covers an area that is clearly part of the Philippines' territory and maritime domain," Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario said on Thursday, referring to the lines on the passport map. Vietnam had written to China in protest against the new passports and had asked it to "reverse their incorrect content", said Luong Thanh Nghi, a spokesman for Vietnam's foreign ministry. more |

Note verbale only, Mr. Secretary? Just because mainland China is one of the biggest tourist, we are ignoring our rights to sovereignty? Why not REQUIRE them to remove/change their passport if they really want to enter PH? Accepting the tourists is a disgrace and dishonor to our sovereignty. I think this is where Akbayan this time is correct. http://globalnation.inquirer.net/57609/dfa-to-honor-chinese-e-passports-despite-map You know what you just did?...It's allowing the Chinese govt to undermine the PH govt & "well, the PH can't do anything about it otherwise they'll lose tourism". REQUIRE THEM TO CHANGE! DO NOT ACCEPT Chinese Passports w/ claims of the WPS! It's their loss, not ours! |

Or do what India does. Stamp the map with their own map. Better yet stamp it with a disclaimer with a bleeding black ink to refute any claim and to declare it null and void. This is where our timidity is glaring. Pnoy should continue his successes from the recent ASEAN meeting. Balls to the wall Pnoy! Don't let those Chicoms grab an inch. |

Mr. Icefrog posted this in another thread. I reposted it as I thought this would be an eye opener for the government. - http://s3.zetaboards.com/Defense_Philippines/single/?p=8053985&t=7602518
I will call this the "India Initiative". The Philippines should do this too. After all, a highly regarded Philippine senator claimed that it is the ultimate form of flattery to copy someones work.

Philippines to process Chinese visa applications despite passport protest www.interaksyon.com “Visa processing for Chinese e-passport continues its normal course,” Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesman Raul Hernandez said, referring to the effect of Manila's note verbale on applications for Philippine visas. Manila's note verbale expressed opposition to Beijing's move to include disputed territory in the West Philippine Sea on its new e-passport. Chinese travelers are among the top visitors to the Philippines, which continue to attract tourists from the world's second-largest economy. For its part, Chinese embassy in Manila Hua Zhang said the ambassador has already received the note verbale and is awaiting instructions from their Beijing head office on how to respond to it. MANILA'S NOTE VERBALE WITHOUT ACTIONS MEANS NOTHING TO BEIJING, WHO KNOWS MAYBE IT GOES STRAIGHT INTO THE SHREDDER AND IGNORED.. The Philippine Govt. should ban or not allow Chinese nationals entering the Philippines using ePassports with imprints of disputed territories, allowing them to enter with these opposed acts, travel documents is the same as acknowledgement of their claim in order to humiliate our Country. A 10 year old child can figure this one out and will know what's the best action to do, simple as if we did the same thing to them, do you think they will let any Filipino set foot in their territories, this is where we should draw the line if we really mean what we say, the importance of our claims. We are not to ban or not to allow them to enter PH for good, for as long as they won't use these newly imprinted e passports with disputed territories to enter the Philippines. The Philippines should encourage other Countries that opposed should do the same particularly India, Taiwan and Vietnam.

As smart as issuing another protest. Maybe you can deafen them to death or choke them with tonnes of paperwork... Seriously, a protest does give about the same results... zero. However, I was in a rather volatile state of mind when I posted that message. I sincerely apologize if I had offended anyone.

Vietnam refuses to stamp new Chinese passport with South China Sea map November 27, 2012 1:52pm Hanoi --Vietnamese border guards said Tuesday they were refusing to stamp entry visas into controversial new Chinese passports which feature a map of Beijing's claim to almost all of the South China Sea. Vietnam has said the computer-chipped passports violate its sovereignty and has demanded Beijing withdraw the documents, which show the contested Paracel and Spratly Islands as Chinese territory. "We do not stamp the new Chinese passports," said an official at Hanoi's Noi Bai Airport, the country's main international gateway. "We issue them a separate visa," said the official, who did not want to be named. A border guard in northern Lang Son province said they were also not stamping the new passports but issuing separate visas to Chinese arrivals. Even with the new passports, however, "Chinese citizens can still travel normally through the border gate," the guard added. GMA NETWORK |
