We're buying MK38 Mod 2 Naval Gun System from BAE. Just wonder where will PN will install these guns Navy Contracts -- September 4, 2012 Patuxent River, MD and Indian Head, MD - 9/5/2012 Navy Contracts – September 4, 2012 ![]() BAE Systems Land and Armaments Inc., U.S. Combat Systems Division, Louisville, Ky., is being awarded a $24,257,531 firm-fixed-price contract for 21 MK38 Mod 2 machine gun systems and associated spare parts in support of the U.S. Navy and the Philippines. This contract combines purchases for the U.S. Navy (92.7 percent) and the government of the Philippines (7.4 percent) under the Foreign Military Sales Program. The MK 38 Mod 2 machine gun system ordnance alteration kit consists of two-axis stabilization with remote control capability and an on-mount day/night electro-optical suite along with an eye-safe laser range finder. The spare parts being procured on this contract include 13 toplight assemblies, 12 multi-function displays, four main control panels, six battery chargers, and one installation and checkout spare with deliveries starting in November 2013. Work will be performed in Hafia, Israel (68 percent) and Louisville, Ky. (32 percent), and is expected to be completed by May 2014. Contract funds in the amount of $9,509,007 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competitively procured. looks like from this news, its a combined US navy and Philippine order with the Philippine navy getting two 25mms and the amerikanos getting the remaining nineteen 25mms based on the percentage quoted in the news. |

ang daming order nyan... 21 pieces of Mk38 MOD2 Bushmaster gun. I believe sa US setup of the Hamiltons there are two Mk38 Bushmaster guns (one for each side) while the maintaining Phalanx as the aft located CIWS. |

Mk-38 machine gun system MGS From this: Mod. 1 (manually) ![]() To this: Mod. 2 (remote control) ![]() The Mk-38 was first employed aboard combatant and auxiliary ships conducting Mid-East Force escort operations and during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Mk-38 Mod.1s are maintained in a rotatable pool for temporary installation aboard deployed ships. Following the October 2000 attack on USS COLE (DDG 67), Task Force Hip Pocket identified an improved Mk-38 MGS as a means to increase shipboard self defense against small boat threats. In 2003, the Chief of Naval Operations documented the requirement and directed the development and fielding of the Mk-38 Mod 2. Installed aboard CG , DDG, FFG , LSD , LPD, LHD, LHA, LCC the Mk-38 Mod.2 MGS is a low cost, stabilized self defense weapon system that dramatically improves shipboard self defense. Contractor Mod 1: Designed and assembled by Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center; components procured from various contractors. Date Deployed: 1986 Contractor Mod 2: BAE Systems Minneapolis, Minnesota; Rafael, Haifa, Israel. Date Deployed: 2005 150 systems installed as of Sept. 2010 Guidance System Mod 1: unstabilized, manually trained and elevated. the mod 2 can still be fired manually though this will an improvement for the whecs. hoping for more units for other vessels as well just noticed though, ang mahal! almost $1M
