with the recent death of sec jesse, problems with sar and retrieval again is highlighted. same problems with the crash of a warrior 3 months ago somewhere in bataan was also encountered. imo, dnd needs more assets that are specially for sar and retrieval. these assets should include more ships with sonars, salvage ships, rovs, more rotary and fixed wing assets. i know this is a budget heavy endevour, but imo is very pressing and necessary

Sensors would reduce the need to launch more helicopters since it can cover large areas like a FLIR pod, unlike using a combat helicopter with armor for engine and pilot without sensor, its just uneconomical and added weight. |
|
Modernization should prioritize: Patrol Ships with air/sub/ship detection, fast & lightly armed for Navy. Surface Attack Aircraft with anti ship/sub attack capability for Airforce. SAM with Radars, Close AA battery capable of shooting ground targets too for Army. This triangle defense will work together and protect us from external threats. | |

yup! we should buy some equipment that (this kind of incidents of sec. robredo) can be use to search and rescue the victims as soon as possible to save their lives. the coast guard should buy a sonar like this one DeepVision DE340 Side Scan Sonar and an ROV (remotely operated vehicle). i heard in the news before that the navy has an ROV, but i dont know where it is now? |

the use of rov for scouring the area minimizes the risk of the tech divers |

"President Aquino has ordered the defense department to determine the rescue equipment needed by the military. Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin has been tasked to assess the needs of the rescue and retrieval teams and to enumerate what needs to be enhanced or upgraded." http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=841900&publicationSubCategoryId=63 very nice! and with the same article, it staes that the navy has only 7 tech divers. wow! its really high time to improve on the capabilities gents

Do the PAF air craft have "pingers"? These are salt water activated sonar devices that emit a "pinging sound" when activated by water. I know they're used on US aircraft. It really helps when trying to search for air craft that are underwater. Just wondering. It's a simple device about the size of a small flashlight. It can be picked up fairly easily from sonar. |

They (PAF) are already using our 4 brand new Sokol helicopters for the SAR role. |

Better SAR assets yes, like with sensors to better navigate stormy weather and FLIR to locate missing persons, even just a cheaper civilian version. The Sokols are military version just forced to be SAR due to political reasons, aside from lack of sensor dedicated for SAR, it has an encumbrance weight of Armor for Pilot and Engine being a Combat Helicopter, an unnecessary weight for SAR.. If we can remember the Combat Utility Purchase arises from the need to evacuate wounded soldiers even on bad weather that a UH-1 cant in battle in mindanao *hint Cpl. i read somewhere in the editorial of philstar, the sonars used in the search in masbate was not phl's. it was from a visiting usn vessel daw. wrong timing pala yung visit ng salvage vessel ng usn, uss safeguard, almost a month and a half too early. could have made the search and retrieval easier. hope they expidite the acquisition of the assets
