China Imposes Fishing Restrictions Around Panatag

http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2013/05/02/937248/china-imposes-fishing-restrictions-around-panatag

(The Philippine Star) | Updated May 2, 2013 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines - Surveillance ships deployed by China in the Panatag Shoal are imposing a 24-kilometer wide ban on fishing in the area, according to some fishermen in Masinloc, Zambales. We were warned not to sail within 15 nautical miles from the shoal, said Mike, one of the men whose fishing boat was recently intercepted and barred by a Chinese surveillance ship from entering Panatag.

Mikes sister Jen said the Chinese fishing restrictions in and around Panatag have greatly affected their livelihood because of reduced catch.China has virtually occupied Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal since last year after the Philippine government ordered the withdrawal of its vessels following a tense standoff triggered by the effort to apprehend Chinese poachers in the area.

I always try to be positive in everything but with the looks of what is happening now...even if we get a favorable decision from UCLOS...we have LOST the Scarborough Shoal...LITERALLY...our President is very much busy making the rounds to ensure a win for HIS senatorial slate...its a good thing I DID NOT VOTE FOR THIS MAN? :headbang:

Generally speaking, a country is the ultimate owner of anything within the 200 mile EEZ of that country but due to the insistence of china that they own scarborough , etc, it is necessary for the philippines to get a specific UN ruling on this dispute so that if there is a clash, the countries nearby know who to back up or support.

with the unclos ruling, the philippines will be backed by international law to use an escalation of force where deemed necessary from boardings to water cannons to ramming , firing, etc. of course, china can hit back but if they do, they would be 100% aggressor since they are resisting the 100% internationally recognized owner of scarborough, mischief, malapmpaya etc.

in other words, ang merong karapatan gumamit ng puwersa within the 200 mile EEZ is the philippines assuming that UNCLOS rules in her favor. any other country that tries to use force within the 200 mile EEZ of the philippines without legal reason is violating UNCLOS and any international law and will be easily condemned everywhere without hesitation by other countries not to mention, it would make it very easy for allies to justify supporting the philippines due to the specific UNCLOS ruling in our favor.

or put another way, there is no more murky or gray area with respect to scarborough, mischief, malampaya. everything will be 100% crystal clear owned by the philippines with a favorable UNCLOS ruling.

by the way, the giant "Benham rise" maritime area , as some of you already know, is 100% owned already by the philippines since the UN approved our application recently for ownership of "Benham Rise".

Since "Scarborough Shoals " could not be defended just change the subject. That is positive thinking.

Very well-thought opinion sir pach, right on the money.

Unlike a few here who just rant and rant without a single clue on the implications of the UNCLOS complaint.

Read and learn people. :armywink:

Chinese 'Start Building Structures' on Panatag Shoal - Military Sources

MANILA, Philippines -- China has begun constructing structures on disputed Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal, and its vessels have been unloading gravel, stone, cement and metal, highly placed military sources told InterAksyon.com Thursday. The sources, who spoke on condition they not be named, also said defense officials are in possession of satellite photos that prove the Chinese activity on the disputed shoal, which the Philippines also calls Bajo de Masinloc, for the Zambales town to which it belongs.

The defense and military establishments have already in (their) possession satellite photographs of what the Chinese are actually doing on our shoal. At least three Chinese big ships, on a rotation basis, are maintaining their presence on the shoal, aside from fishing vessels that are unloading sacks of gravel, stone, cement, and metals, one of the sources said.In one media interview, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said the Chinese had already roped off the entrance to the shoal, a rich fishing ground, to prevent Filipino fishermen from entering.
