we keep overlooking the minerva corvettes which would be an excellent replacement for the Philippine navy's PCE and AUK class.

these ships are longer and heavier with better armaments than even the Peacock class !!!

please post here if you find any updates about the minerva corvettes and their final disposition(hopefully to the Philippines).

Part of the 138 projects isthe acquisition of 2 OPVs...Minerva has been use more as coastal patrol crafts.. If this corvettes can withstand seastates prevailing in the west philippine seas or in the the eastern seas and if this can be packaged with the maestrales then idont see the reason why the navy will not consider them.

The Minerva Class comprises eight warfare ships built by Fincantieri for Marina Militare, the Italian Navy. The corvettes were built in two series of four vessels each, all being given mythological names.

The first series includes Minerva F551, Urania F552, Danaide F553 and Sfinge F554. Corvettes built in the second series include Draide F555, Chimera F556, Fenice F557 and Sibilla F558.

Minerva Class corvettes operate mainly in coastal areas. The main missions include sea traffic policing, EEZ (economic exclusion zone) patrolling, surveillance at fisheries and commandos training.

Certain warships in the Minerva Class were chosen from the Gabbiano Class corvettes. The Gabbiano Class included 59 warships that were built to carry out anti-submarine and escort activities during World War II. The corvette class was built for the Regina Marina Italiana (Italian Royal Navy).

Minerva Class Design
Quote:

The Minerva Class warships were designed to maintain a good balance between superstructure and lines of the hull during sailing.
Although small in size, the architecture employed in the corvette provides deck space sufficient to add more weapon systems in future. Electromagnetic signature has also been limited in all the Minerva Class warships. Automation systems installed in the warships allow operations to be conducted from the bridge.

Weapons, missiles and torpedoes
Quote:

Minerva Class warships are armed with a single 76/62mm gun. Six anti-submarine warfare torpedoes of 324mm are also installed. Missile systems include eight Aspide missiles along with Albatros surface-to-air missile systems, manufactured and supplied by MBDA Missile Systems.

The missile development company has also developed a new version, named Aspide 2000. The new version is capable of defending consort ships against air attacks and can provide close area defence for the launch ship. Marina Militare is currently upgrading the existing Albatros system to suit the new missile version.

The Gabbiano Sfinge 554 was armed with eight grenade launchers and two bombs, two torpedoes and towing and a 100/47 gun. It was powered by dual diesel engines of 3,500HP and two electric motors. The maximum speed was 18kt.

if im not mistaken theyre to neuter these babies if theyre to be given free. it would even be wishful thinking that the 76mm is left behind, but that can be negotiated pa naman. the recipients are the ones to shoulder refurb and arm these babies, thus providing money for italy w/c it badly needs. the deal here will be like that of the whecs.

these will be very welcome in pn, esp the mixed forces being planned by them. the lerici will also fit in their plans :armycheers:

Neutered or not, they will always be welcomed if packaged with the Maestrales. We need the "hulls" first and then maybe give them some teeth. These babies are beauties to behold and are very capable in the right hands.

The four oldest Minervas have had their main radar (similar to the one on the Maestrales), missiles and torpedoes removed for use as training ships. They've received a pair of 25 mm guns comparable to the DS30s on the JCPVs.

The Spanish Descubierta class corvettes have almost the same dimensions as the Minervas. At least one has been modified to take a helipad. Could the Minervas receive a similar modification? The Italians have put helipads on small warships before.

I can understand seizing the opportunity if offered but it would benefit local industry if the PN decided to build OPVs locally instead of shopping for used ones.

A very spacious design which will allow for more future upgrades such as RHIB launchers, etc.!

as well as for third-class minesweepers and six Lerici class corvettes Minerva, whose disposal is anticipated over five years, and for which a transfer to other navies, at least for the corvettes, would be assessed even for free.
