MANILA, Philippines—Twelve Malaysian nationals were rescued from suspected pirates by combined elements of the militia and military Tuesday night in Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao, the Philippine Army said.

The Malaysian nationals were aboard two vessels, namely the Woodsman 38 and 39, allegedly coming from the port of Miri, Sarawak in Malaysia on July 24, said Colonel Prudencio Asto of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, quoting initial reports.

They were allegedly captured by pirates while on their way to get their cargo to be delivered in Davao City last July 29.

The victims were thrown overboard by the pirates prior to the rescue, Asto said.
