Much of Dungeon and Dragons in about battling. That is what is so appealing, here I will teach you how to attack your opponent and also how to determine damage in a few simple steps. MELEE To hit with a melee strike you will need to roll a 1D20 add you base attack bonus and then finally your strength modifier a quicker way to think of this is. 1D20 + Base Atk + Str Mod Whatever your total number is will be used aganist your opponents AC a predetermined number that you have to beat or match to attack your foe. If you do manage to attack you can then roll for damage. When you roll for damage you will add you weapons damage value and add your strength modifer. A quicker way to think of this is. Weapon Damage Dice + Str Mod. RANGED To hit with a ranged strike you will need to roll a 1D20 add your base attack bonus and then finally your dexerity modifer. A quicker way to think of this is. 1D20 + Base Atk + Dex Mod Again this number will be used to determine if you hit your foe. Damage is also determined the same way but with dex modifer not your strength. Weapon Damage Dice + Dex Mod. *All of this is covered under Combat in the Players Handbook PG133-160.
