Hey everyone, Recently I rented Tipping the Velvet from Netflix and I absolutely loved it. It follows the story of a girl named Nancy in the 1800's. She becomes obsessed with a woman named Kitty Butler who performs in a type of variety show. Then follows a crazy amount of happenings in this girls life. Nan, is a Very likeable, and hot, character. The story is fast, but being a long movie that the BBC made, it is broken into 3 different 1 hour episodes on the disk, so don't worry about not being able so sit for the whole 3 hours. I reccomend this movie to all. I know that you will love it! |

I watched that when It first came on tv and I loved it, I was hooked. I really liked Jodhi May who was in it and thought Anna Chancellor was brilliantly funny as the domineering Diana. After watching the series on tv I decided to find the novel. It was brilliant, even more descriptive. I have read three of her novels now and I own the dvd so you could say I am a fan of Sarah Waters work, actually here in the UK on sunday they are starting the new drama of hers called Fingersmith, i cannot wait. I have several favorite lines in Tipping that nan says, one of my favorite is where she calls Diana a dried up...you know....Funny. |

Yeh! I saw it on TV, too.. and then I found it on DVD, and it had an interview with Sarah Waters, so I picked it up. It. Is. Really. Good. The character of Nan King is so well written. Even though she is 'finding her feet' she is still strong and true to herself. The scene at the end of episode 1 still tears me up a bit. Rachel Stirling just let the emotion out. It was brilliant. Did you see her in that episode of a Miss Marple thing? I was flicking the channels, when I saw it. I do't know who committed the murder, but Rachel Stirling wore a red hat, and it was awesome. Yes. What about Hugh Bonneville!?! My friend called him a poor man's Jim Broadbent... so I slapped that friend. |
| For me though, it's like I've given birth to my own baby girl. You know? Only she's, like, a big giant girl who smokes and says "shit" a lot. | |
