Thanks Riley. Here is my first movie review. ******************WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILER********** House of Sand and Fog is a movie starring Jennifer Connelly,Ben Kingsley,Ron Eldard,Shohreh Aghdashloo,Johnathan Ahdout.. Kathy(Jennifer Connelly) Has been wrongfully thrown out of her home and it gets put up for auction. An Iranian Family buy the property and try to make a better life for themselves in America.Behrani(Ben Kingsley) Is the new owner, A former military colonel from Iran. He has principles and will not see himself or his family struggle again so he refuses to leave the new house unless he gets more money so his family can be confortable. Kathy meets Lester(Ron Eldard) Who is a local cop,He starts a campaign against Behrani and his family which ends in tragedy. I watched this movie upon another persons recommendation and I sobbed my heart out. Its one of the most heart stopping, though provoking films I have seen in a long time. Ben Kingsley is nothing short of brilliant as Behrani and Jennifer Connelly is superb as Kathy. There is something about Jennifer Connelly that draws you into the film. Her intense eyes just draw you in, its like she is in the same room. I found myself feeling sorry for all the characters. Its like they all have hopes and dreams, but eachothers principles and feelings of doing the right think lead to tragedy. I would highly recommend this film to anyone. It isn't for everyone but if you have feelings, compassion, understanding and heart, then it is for you. I would vote this film 4 out of 5. Well I hope I didn't sound like an idiot or ruin the plot. Thats why I put the spoiler note. Jodes |

I really thought the mother, Aghdashloo, deserved the Oscar for best supporting actress. |

How good was she. I didn't really want to give too much away about the movie so I tried to limit what I said but she was great. She showed all the right emotions in being Behrani's wife. Its like she knew what he was doing was wrong but could not argue because man is the boss of that household. I actually thought the son was great too. Its an all around great casting I think. Looking back on it I cannot really imagine anyone else playing Behrani other than Ben Kingsley. I think he is a brilliant actor. |

i started reading the book this summer before school. I returned it to my friend before getting very far cause i knew it would be an emotional wrencher. The movie sounds good though, it'll be a quick n' painless wrencher. I am a sucker for depressing movies that seem to go nowhere though. Anyone seen Before Sunset (Continuation to Before Sunrise)? I just saw it and it was sooooo good. That is if you like the kinda movies I just described. Well, it's not depressing it's more just like an honest reflection of reality, and great conversations. Anywho, i recommend you check it out. SaraHa  |

That movie is on demand through my cable company... I read the plot outline, and it did nothing for me. You did a much better job of drawing me in. hmmm... possible career??! I will have to rent it one night... perhaps x-mas eve since I have nothing planned. On the side... Smidge mentioned Before Sunrise... man I couldn't deal with that movie. My friend John was going on and on about it, so we watched it one night for movie night and I disliked it so much. I don't know why... but I had the same feelings towards Lost in Translation. Guess they both kinda fall along the same lines... perhaps I need more action in my dramas? |

Thanks for your comments Riley. I do actually write a few reviews for a magazine, nothing major though. I would love to write for a movie magazine, that would be awesome. I think the thing about films like Lost in translation is that they appeal to our inner feelings. I loved Lost in translation. The whole scenery thing was great. I would love to visit Japan,it looks like a beautiful place. The movie was more about life in general, based on someone who felt their life was over and someone who did not understand what their life was for. I sometimes question things like that. Why am I here, What do I really want from life. So I related 100% to that film. I have yet to see Before Sunset but I did see Before sunrise, I liked that film so I will see the other when I get time. My movie tastes are a little weird though. One side of me loves a good action/Horror flick and the other likes films such as Elizabeth,The Hours,Being John Malkovich and the brilliant Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind. I like clever plots that make you think and films that you need to watch more than once. Anyway I have bored you long enough.lol. Have a merry xmas Jodie |
