I have a question about BIAC....when Mary has them pair up why does she call Hillary up by here. That doesn't make any sense to me. |

Yeh, I wonder about that too. I think it's because there are odd numbers, and Hilary is probably the best "soldier" and doesn't need to pair up and stop objectifying women - that's why she showed Megan around on the first day, she is the techer's pet. You think? |

Definitely. You beat me to it. Cuz like Kate said, there was an odd number. Let's see. Graham, Megan, Jan, Hilary, Sinead, Joel, Dolph, Clayton and Andre. Nine. And Hilary was the best soldier, teacher's pet, yup, yup.... And then you know, Andre and Joel, Clayton and Andre, Megan and Graham, and Jan and Sinead. BUT this would have never happened in real life. It was so put together for the movie. Like I said on the old board, Mary would have matched them up boy/girl. It makes more sense that way since she is "teaching" them to be straight. And secondly, Sinead would have snatched Graham up in a second. You know? Realistically, Megan would have ended up with Jan. Yup. |

Yup, Sinead would have paired up with Graham. I was skeptical at why she chose Jan over Graham. Maybe she's in that phase of secretly loving Graham but doesn't want Graham to know that she's on to her? |

Good points. I remember you saying that from the previous board. I was just watching BIAC for the 100th time b/c I needed my Clea fix and noticed that. I have one more question and it is going to sound really stupid but I heard somewhere that the character Jan was really straight (something about defying the stereotype). Is that true? |

She was straight. I mean, she said it in the movie. Even before that, she didn't really show any interest in the girls. And then she's like, I'm straight, blah, blah, blah. It was because she was a tomboy, she shaved her head, she wasn't "pretty" and she was molested when she was younger. I think they were just proving that...... I mean look at Megan. She was a stereotypical straight girl yet she was gay (like me). And then Jan was your stereotypical dyke. The sports, the shaved head, being molested.... all sorts of things that people try to associate with homos. Yet she's not. I think she was just making a point. Like in this book I'm writing, there's these twin girls, one is gay, one is not, one is sort of butch and one is femme.... but the femme one is gay and the tomboy one is straight..... |

Sounds like a good story, Graham. That is so hilarious when Jan outs herself as being straight and Mike says "Who's she trying to kid?" and then runs after her in a really effeminite way "Jaaan." |

That sounds like a great Idea for a novel, you know I actually wondered If there are any twins that are both gay out there? Just out of Interest. I write too, Its true that people always assume that the butch type girl is the typical dyke though. Buts thats why I like the way that we have Femme women as role models too, to teach people the understandings that anyone can be gay, no matter what they look like and thats what Jaimie Babbitt was trying to prove in BIAC I think. Like with the boys, you had the very straight acting macho wrestler, the "normal" shop worker, goog looking guy, the dancer who would be questioned by his campness. Thats what I liked about the movie, Its comical way of taking the piss out of those who take the piss. Hope the book goes well Graham Jodie xx |

Yeah it's going good. My novel I mean. Heh. As for the twins thing, I don't know of any both gay twins, personally. My ex girlfriend was an identical twin but her sister was straight, which my mom used as ammunition to prove that my girl wasn't really gay and that people aren't born that way if they are identical and one is straight and one is gay. What do you think? |

The subject of twins can be a tricky one because I read a novel once, dont ask me what is was called because I can't remember, but it was about this girl who always felt that something was missing from her life, she had feelings that she was a twin. So she goes in search and finds out that sure enough she had a twin sister at birth, but the main twist of this story was that when she met her sister she was black yet she was white. Apparently the novel was based on a true story, they had dna tests done and it was confirmed that they were twins. I really wish I could remember the name of the book now. As for being born gay, I think I was because I never really new anything else, but thats just me and my opinion, but even if someone is of a set of twins they each have theyre own personality dont they, or some small trait that sets one aside from the other. I was once accused of being a lesbian because It was something I chose to do, lol, I suppose In a way I did, because I chose to live my life how it makes me happy, not living in a lie.(dont want that to sound too harsh but you know what I mean.) sexuality is a very difficult question, it doesnt have just one answer unfortunately. i know this is off topic to BIAC, but i just wanted to point out that there are gay twins. Tegan Quin and Sara Quin, of the canadian band "Tegan and Sara", are twins and they are both gay. there was a topic similar to the question asked here on a T&S messageboard and a couple people mentioned they knew of a few pairs of gay twins. also, someone posted this in that thread: Identical twins who have identical genetic make-ups, would approach 100% concordance for any trait that is completely genetically determined; fraternal twins and nontwin siblings, who share half of their genes, will show a concordance rate of approximately 50% for a genetically determined trait. Lower concordance in either case indicates an environmental component in the determination of that trait. A study by Bailey and Pillard (1991) investigated the sexual orientation of the siblings of 110 gay men. These researchers found a concordance rate of 52% for identcal (monozygotic) twins, 22% for fraternal (dizygotic) twins, 9% for nontwin brothers, adn 11% for adopted brothers. In a similar study done with lesbians and bisexual women, Bailey, Pillard, Neale, & Agyei (1993), reported a concordance rate of 48% for identical twins, 16% for fraternal twins, 14% for nontwin sisters, and 6% for adoptive sisters. These findings suggest that there may be a genetic component to homosexual orientation, since the concordance rate increases as the degree of genetic similarity increases, as would be expected from a genetic hypothesis. However, if sexual orientation were entirely genetic, we could expect a concordance nearing 100% for identical twins. Thus, while the data provide some support for a genetic explanation of sexual orientation, they indicate the other factors are involved, as well. Well what do you know, I never knew that Tegan and Sarah were twins, mind you I never saw a picture of them, just heard the music. Thanks for the article. It was interesting, it just goes to show that their must be something in genetics to some extent too. Thanks Jodie |
