I think of America as a neo-fascist state that organised and carried out 911 in order to control its citizenry through fear and media mind control. The great pity is that most Americans can't seem to see this. Mussolini and La Partita Fascista Italiana were in two-minds about America and American culture. They greatly admired the American 'can-do' spirit and American economic dynamism. However, they deplored American culture and thought it childish and bordering on the infantile, they had great difficulty understand how one could produce the other. |

All I can say is I don't believe that 9/11 was organized and carried out by "powers that be" in the government. The closest to any conspiracy I'd maybe consider was that certain people knew it was going to happened and allowed it to for their own interests. If I look at the evidence of direct government involvement presented by the "truthers" I can usually find a fault with their logic. |

The USA is the cultural lighthouse of the whole western world (followed by the UK in a loose 2nd place), and that will remain this way for at least the rest of this century. I grew up under the conception that "America" was the pattern of all normality, while all the other countries were abnormal in different degrees of abnormality. Everytime a politician, an economist or alike was talking of Latin-American issues on TV, they used to say "in the US they do this way, in the US they do that way etc usw and we are not going to get things toghether if we don't do the way they do in USA"... Even leftist politicians used to pick facts about the USA as a model to be copied. And, over the years in my childhood and teenage, that helped to convince me that every other country had peculiarities BUT the USA; USA was supposed to be the role model, the pattern for everything every other country should strive to become. EVERY other country. These were the feelings I had about the USA for most of my life, and maybe I still feel this way in which regards several aspects of economy, social life and politics. Since about 4 years ago, I have been feeling myself disappointed about some aspects in USA's society, as like the rampant criminalization of the male sexuality. - - - I also agree that 9/11 was not an inside job. I think it's like what TheG said, some people got ahold of the information that the Muslins had that attack planned and did nothing to prevent that (certainly because they thought it would make a good excuse to attack Iraq or Afghanistan). But, to say American people created the whole 9/11, I can't believe something like that. I think this whole hoax that 9/11 was an inside job, was originated from some feeling of impotence, I think people got so shocked that the USA suffered a terrorist attack inside its own territory that they decided to invent such fantasy that "no Arab attacked us, it were the Illuminatti or the American Jews who did that all", as a way to hide their heads in the sand about the actual vulnerability of the country before foreign enemies and pretend that that was unreal. |

When the businessmen still own small business, they support libertarianism and they want free market so they can prosper and get big; when they finally become big corporations, they buy politicians to pass laws imposing rules to the market and taxation on small enterpreuners so they can ditch competition. This is the way ulta-capitalists support very easily social democrats, socialists and facists. People use to feel puzzled about big corporations giving financial support to leftist/facist NGO all over the world, but that's what the mega-corporations want: state's intervention on the economy (state's intervention after their lobbies, especifically). Add to that the fact that the western economies are falling down and governments are inclined to intervene in an heterodoxe way to do something about that, and that's the reason you feel USA is becoming less free than it used to be. |

When I was posting away at Womansavers I would from time to time write about American culture and politics as seen from an outsider's perspective. I almost invariably received one of these two stock and tiresome replies: (1) You are not an American so stfu* (2) You're just jealous because you're not an American; you're just deeply envious of out freedoms! * Bizarrely there are many otherwise intelligent and sophisticated Americans who believe that American foreign and domestic policy has no knock-on effect outside of America. This believe is as strong and immutable as the belief that America is the land of opportunity and that while America cocks things up from time to time the country's heart is fundamentally good. P.S. I strongly believe that 9/11 was an inside job from start to finish, most notably because the Patriot Act, which runs to many hundreds of pages, was produced and brought before the Senate/Congress much too soon after 9/11. It is clear that it was written months before 9/11. The attacks on 9/11 were the pretext for ushering in a new era where the elites could control the people more effectively, and as a nice psychological bonus have the masses crying out for their enslavement. What people simply do not understand is that government is your enemy, government has always been your enemy and not just in America. All governments crave ever greater control and power. What the elites know that you don't is that less than 1% of a nation's population lives a dream existence. As they are painfully aware that their numbers are tiny and if ever the great unwashed beast woke up and realised that the elite had enslaved them and worse were also making them pay the costs of their own slavery, then the masters would be hung drawn and quartered! The masters terrified that the beast will wake up engages in a cold war with its own citizenry, with the built in advantage on knowing that the people find it impossible ever to believe that their true enemy is not witches, the Soviet Union, communists, crazed international drug dealers, ghetto home-boys, crack dealers, blacks, crazed Arabs or pedophiles but their very own government. The surest way to keep the masses docile is through fear and that is what the media dishes up on behalf of the corporate masters. Death, murder, earthquakes, tsunamis, mud-slides, famine, civil-war, medical blunders, rape and violent crime these are all lovingly and in great detail reported on television and other media outlets. The effect after a while is to produce in the population a 'bunker mentality' a siege mentality where it seems the safest and most obvious thing is to believe the politicians and the business elite and go along with whatever they suggest. This fear mongering is very effective on its own, but such is their fear of the masses waking up that the elite doesn't stop with constantly bombarding the people death, doom and destruction. The second technique is to turn the population into drones just clever enough to operate simply machinery etc but not clever enough to see through the elite's smokescreen. This is done firstly in the schools, were a deliberate policy of dumbing down as been going on since at least the 1920s. The second method that this technique employs is so carpet bomb the people with drivel. Think of all those soaps, reality shows, talent-shows etc. For every Frasier or every Sopranos there are endless heaps of rotting, stinking brain-numbing rubbish broadcast by the media. This isn't by accident and no the networks aren't just responding to the demands of the viewers, although the BBC and ITV, ABC, NBC, CBS would have you believe that the viewer is king and what doesn't please the viewers gets quickly pulled. Ask yourself this, do you get what you like, or do you like what you get? My mother watches a lot of television and she often says that 'there is nothing on, but I just choose the best of a bad lot'. |
