New stuff can be seen at GW's site. Here's what's coming out-

Book
-Battle Missions

Space Marines
-venerable dreadnought (plastic)

Orks
-killer kans x3 (plastic)
-deff dread (plastic)
-flashgit w/ targeting squig (metal)

Imperial Guard
-basilisk (plastic)
-chimera (plastic)

the SM dreadnought is really kind of meh. very boring, but it does have a nice new sunken in helmet head thing. all the ork stuff is amazing and seems like it's even priced well (3 kans on 60mm bases for $44.50...not so bad).

then we get to the biggest MEH of the century-the "new" guard stuff. wow, thank you GW for releasing new and barely changed versions of 2 kits that already exist. good thing that there's still about 1/3 of the codex that doesn't have models made yet....assholes. seriously, the only change is that the new "slimmer" profile is used on the chimera chasis and with the chimera kit you get options for a heavy bolter turret and a heavy flamer turret in addition to the standard multi-laser. ps GW nobody uses these extra turret options because they're shit, not because you haven't made a model for them yet. what's super lame is that the basilisk gun, fire platform, etc look like they very well might be the same ones from the old kit. I saw the CAD schematics for the medusa at games day Chicago. This is one of the best artillery pieces guard get. where the fuck is the model? basilisks aren't that good, why the hell have you now made that model twice in a decade and changed virtually nothing?

well here's hoping that battle missions is worth a shit and balanced. we don't need another repeat of planetsuck. fingers crossed that there will be at least 1 three player mission.

and another thing that sucks ass about the basilisk kit.... it used to come with a sprue out of the heavy weapons kit to act as crew. those of us who are thrifty could then use them along with leftover heavy weapons to make new heavy weapons squads. Looks like the new kit just comes with the awful, static, "Sieg Heil" tank commander. boo

This thread should have been called 'you know what really grinds my gears?'

Best Monday rant ever!

Agreed with the Dreadnought tho, i'll stick with the FW ones. Although I hate orks, the new entries do look pretty stunning. And mean. Very, very mean.

man, no lvoe the dread? I really like it. Not only is it a damn sight better than the old metal one, but it's super cool in its own right.

The basilisk and chimera re-release is a bit of a kick in the balls but keep this in mind:

all of the releases for this are re-releases of old metal kits. The chimera is probably the oldest kit in the group. I remember getting one when they first came out back in 1995. I'd still like to see a manticor or a hydra instead, but... i see the logic even if it is crappy

just found this: more bad news

looks like you should direct all anger at the book itself. Lets all enjoy the encore performance of planetstrike...

I get that the chimera is really old, but the kit has actually held up very well, and doesn't look dated like the LR demolisher did (I was all for the redesign on that, plus they made it into a 3 tank kit). that's my gripe, it weren't broke, so why did they fix it? Hydra, manticore, medusa, gryphon, collosus, 3 more leman russ variants, deathstrike, rough riders, preachers, storm troopers, and psychic battle squad are all either incredibly out of print/direct order only or do not exist. so many better options out there than what was released.

ps, I actually like the tank accessory sprue that came with the chimera kit circa 1995 better than the one that has been in the kit since they repacked it and will be in the new kit. better H-K missile and dozer.

Pretty much sums it up:

'This is why GW as a company is failing, right here. They tell customers what they want instead of giving them what they ask for. No one in my 20+ gaming group wants to play apoc, no one in my gaming group wants to spends buckets of cash on apoc stuff, and no in my group wants army specific missions.'

oh please....

This book may be a potential poop noodler, but I'm so tired of people predicting GW's doom because they don't like a new release.

Lets look at the facts, a bunch of the super fluff players will pick this up (I'd wager even one of you Chicago guys as well) and the models will sell like crazy and pique interested in a number of older army books.

Especially in light of the fact that their stock prices are up a third since 6 months ago.

haha, i think army specific missions actually sound kind of fun. I'm just hoping that there is some balance to them so everyone has a good time (see planetstrike for the exact opposite of that).

still have my fingers crossed for some 3 player scenarios.

-Lauby, i knew that GW was thriving, but i didn't know that their stock had gone up that much as of late. that's pretty solid performance. how does that compare to their pre-financial crash state?

I was actually referring to the article you linkied us to, not my own personal thoughts on the release. I am sure that one or more of us will probably pick up the book when it's available, at 25 cents less than the other supplements (?)

I wonder if there will be any WH army specific missions in there?

I also do hope that its better than Apocalypse. While I enjoyed hanging out and having a game with everyone, it really was slow. I'm hoping this will add some interesting dynamics to the game. We'll see in a couple of weeks I guess.

Fair play to GW for their stocks going up, hopefully they'll push out some =][= sh!t soon >hopes<.
