They already cost more than most marines, can't shoot, and have a crap armor save (5+). If you can use cover or outflanking (via "scuttlers" upgrade which is expensive) and actually get them into combat they can go toe to toe with just about anything. But it's very hard to lose 6.67 genestealers to a round of double tapped bolter fire and not lament the fact that those bugs probably cost you damn near 20 points a pop. fluff wise it also makes little sense for genestealers to be elites. they are often the only organism to even be present on a planet for quite some time. Only way I can see this working is one of those 'if you take a broodlord: genestealers count as a troops choice' FOC modifiers. it would, however, make sense if GW wants to sell more gaunt boxes, since it takes a ton of those to make an army of gaunts. I must admit, that ramping up the power of gaunts and lowering their cost would make for some nice new army buildouts.

Penitent Posts: 21 Group: Members Member #11 Joined: September 12, 2009	It does seem strange to reduce the Genestealers, firstly as dethron said they're not exactly the already have their own limitations, and personally I think they're the most Iconic of the nid army. Most people will recognize them or think of them when asked about nids. Bring back the genestealer hybrids along with the magus and patriarch, I loved the fact that in 2nd edition you could have a purely Genesteler based army. Ah well they are just rumours at the mo maybe they will prove wrong or they will have been changed for the better in other ways.

I don't remember the exact total now, but that's about a 50% points reduction. I can live with that. The rumor is also pretty strong that they will, in fact, be an elites choice. There is a historical basis for this if you go back far enough in the wayback machine (3rd ed, I believe). But, keeping in line with the 'buying X character allows you to choose Y as troops choice' that has been present in every single codex and army book (except IG) in the past year or two, the rumor is pretty strong that Broodlords will allow you to take genestealers as troops choices. This makes sense from the fluff angle and from the marketing angle from GW. Up until now very few people have seen a broodlord model on the table, and it is arguably they worst selling mini in the 'nid line. How do you boost your sales? make people want to take them and/or have to take more of them. this is why a lot of what were previously shit units are being beefed up big time and the "codex creep" has continued to reduce points costs across the board.
