NEW YORK -- Be it Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson or Mark Teixeira. Clay Matthews Alternate Jersey . Or even Nick Swisher, Raul Ibanez or Eric Chavez. Up and down their lineup, the Yankees pose quite a dilemma for even the best pitchers these days. Its hard to pitch around a homer-happy ballclub thats in a groove. Cano and Granderson provided the pop Saturday, each hitting two-run homers off Jerome Williams to lead New York over the Los Angeles Angels 5-3. "I think this team is playing about as well as it can because were getting contributions from a lot of different guys," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. The pitching staff is doing its part, too. Freddy Garcia and three relievers kept Mark Trumbo in the ballpark, denying him a homer in a record sixth straight game against the Yankees. Cody Eppley, David Robertson and Rafael Soriano combined for four innings of two-hit ball. Soriano struck out Albert Pujols to finish off a perfect ninth and notch his 22nd save in 23 chances. "The nature of the bullpen is were real competitive," Eppley said after pitching two innings. "We expect to get the job done every day." The Yankees moved a season-high 21 games over .500 at 54-33. They have hit a major league-leading 138 home runs. "One through nine, they can bang," Angels rookie Mike Trout said. Swisher, who appeared to rob Trumbo of a second longball Friday night in helping New York rally late for a win, made another leaping catch at the right-field wall. His flashy grab of Howie Kendricks drive to end the fifth inning, however, would have landed on the warning track. Cano added an RBI single that bounced high off second base in the sixth to help the Yankees secure a second straight winning season against their nemesis. The victory improved their record against the Angels to 5-3 this year with one more game to go. Prior to their 5-4 mark in 2011, New York had not won a season series against the Angels since 2003. Canos two-out drive in the first off Williams (6-6) hit off the top of the wall in left-centre and bounced into the Angels bullpen and made it 2-all. Canos 21st homer gave him a 17-game hitting streak. "You want to support your starter right away," Cano said, "do the little things." Granderson connected for his 24th home run with one out in the third after Chris Stewart singled leading off. Activated from the disabled list before the game, Williams gave up five runs and seven hits in six innings. He hadnt pitched since June 18. Right after being pulled from that outing, Williams experienced dizziness and shortness of breath from a suspected asthma attack that landed him in the hospital. "Although he gave up a couple of home runs, pitched better than his line score shows," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He had good stuff today." Garcia (4-2) laboured through five innings, walking a season-high five, allowing five hits and throwing 98 pitches. It was his shortest start in three outings since moving back into the rotation when Andy Pettitte broke his leg. The right-hander walked the leadoff batter in each of the third through fifth innings yet only gave up one run in that span, on Bobby Wilsons grounder to shortstop in the fourth. The Angels stole three bases in that inning, two by Trout. With those steals, Trout became the first Angels rookie since Chad Curtis in 1992 to reach 30 steals. Garcia played it safe with Trumbo in the first and Alberto Callaspo made him pay. With two outs and runners on second and third, Trumbo walked to load the bases. Callaspo followed with a two-run single. "Those guys dont swing at a bad pitch," Garcia said. "Theyre a pretty tough lineup." Trumbo became the first player to homer in five straight games against New York since Albert Belle in 1994 when he hit a three-run shot Friday. He was 0 for 3 with a walk Saturday. "They werent going to let him beat them," Girardi said. NOTES: The Angels had optioned LHP Brad Mills to Triple-A Salt Lake to make room for Williams. ... Canada let a late lead slip away in their opening game against Russia and it looked like deja vu as Great Britain surged in front in the fourth quarter after Canada had been in control for most of the game. http://www.usnflpackers.com/marshall-newhouse-jersey . Sweden was eliminated from Euro 2012 after losing to Ukraine and England in its first two group games, leading some to wonder whether the 30-year-old Ibrahimovic, who has taken breaks from international duty in the past, would return to the team when World Cup qualifying starts. While a few have headed for Europe, attention will shift focus to Hamilton, where some of the Habs future will be aiming for a shot at making their professional debuts. The Bulldogs camp will open this weekend in Sherbrooke, Quebec, allowing fans to get a first look of the season at some prospects they have been anxious to see. Greg Jennings Jersey . LOUIS -- Nothing in the St. TEMPE, Ariz. -- John Skelton, a fifth-round draft pick who took the unlikely route from El Paso to Fordham to the NFL, is the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. Coach Ken Whisenhunt announced his decision to go with Skelton over Kevin Kolb on Friday. Skelton and Kolb had waged a protracted competition for the job over off-season workouts and through the preseason. "Im not going to get into the specifics of everything that was involved but its fair to say at this point going forward we feel like the quarterback that gives us the best chance to win right now is John Skelton," Whisenhunt said. Skelton is in his third season with Arizona after being drafted in the fifth round out of Fordham. Skelton, who grew up in El Paso, Texas, stands 6-foot-6 and has a cannon arm but sometimes struggles with accuracy. "This is truly the first off-season hes had to work," Whisenhunt said, "and Ive seen progress from him. Hes a guy thats believed in himself. At times, hes shown he could make plays. At times, hes looked like a young quarterback." The Cardinals made the decision despite their significant investment in Kolb, who was acquired just before last season in a trade that sent cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round draft pick to Philadelphia. The Cardinals then signed Kolb to a five-year, $63.5 million contract extension with $21 million guaranteed. Kolb was handed the starters job when he arrived in the desert, but after a season-opening win over Carolina, the Cardinals went into a six-game skid. When he went down with a turf toe injury, Skelton took over, as he did when Kolb was sidelined with what turned out to be a season-ending concussion. Skelton was 5-2 as a starter last season, 6-2 if the San Francisco game, when he came in after Kolb was hurt on the first series, is considered. In his last 10 games, nine as a starter, he has directed six game-winning drives in the fourth quarter. But his overall statistics have been mediocre. Last season, he completed 54.9 per cent of his passes for 1,913 yards and 11 touchdowns with 14 interceptions. "Its kind of a weight off my shoulders, I think," Skelton said. "YYou know, the speculation and waiting is over. Bart Starr Womens Jersey. But at the same time I think theres another weight placed on. Now you have to move forward as a starter and think of it that way." He said he always thought Whisenhunt would give him a fair shot at the job, despite the franchises significant investment in Kolb. "As soon as the season ended last year and coach Whisenhunt took me in his office and said Were going to give you a chance to compete for the starting job, I knew he was going to be a man of his word," Skelton said. But if Skelton has a sufficiently bad stretch, Whisenhunt would be ready to switch quarterbacks. "I dont think its different than any other position," the coach said. "This business is a tough business and its a production-oriented business. If youre not getting the job done, then youre going to be replaced. Our expectation and why we made this decision is that hes going to get the job done." Kolb saw more game action that Skelton in the preseason, although each quarterback got two starts. Kolb completed 22 of 37 passes (59.5 per cent) for one touchdown with three interceptions. Skelton was for 14 for 25 (56 per cent) for 131 yards, also with a TD pass and three picks. Whisenhunt insisted he was "not disappointed" that the addition of Kolb hasnt worked out better. "Theres no guarantee going forward that Kevin wont be playing for us or wont be the starter for us at some point," Whisenhunt said. "Were talking about right now and the process of evaluating this position and thats where we are right now." Skelton talked about his long journey from third-string quarterback as a rookie to being designated the season-opening starter. "Its kind of vindication for all the hard work that Ive put in," he said. "It seems like Ive come a long way since being drafted in the fifth round and starting as a third stringer my rookie year, eventually playing, and then playing last year. But you know its just hard work paying off and having the opportunity and being ready for that opportunity. "Now I see myself as the starter. Im just going to keep moving forward and not look back."
