John OSheas header in the 7th minute nearly gave Ireland the lead but the ball went just over the crossbar, while teammate Robbie Keanes shot a few minutes later forced a deft save from goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, Hungarys player of the match. Hungary winger Balazs Dzsudzsaks strong, low kick in the 18th deflected off an Ireland defender but goalkeeper Shay Given was able to clear the ball. Adam Cox and Jon Waters had clear chances for Ireland near the end of the match. Coxs shot from a counterattack was saved Bogdan, while Waters header after jumping above the defence went wide. Adam Szalai had the best opportunities for Hungary but was prevented from scoring by a tendency to overelaborate as well good play by Given and replacement goalkeeper Kieran Westwood. The match began 20 minutes late because of heavy rain while large puddles of water on the pitch slowed play. Ireland will face Croatia in its opening Euro 2012 match on Sunday in Poznan, Poland. The ITAR-Tass news agency quoted Russian football federation head Nikita Simonyan as saying the decision to appoint Capello was made Monday. Simonyan said all that is needed is a "final agreement on terms of the agreement. Joe Flacco Camo Jersey . Still, it was a win by the Pittsburgh Pirates that had him really excited.Lesson learned. That was the message from Montreal Impact head coach Jesse Marsch after he watched his team beat Portland Timbers 2-0 at Olympic Stadium on Saturday to remain unbeaten at home in the clubs expansion season. The Impact had taken the lead in its previous two matches, only to let three points slip. A 2-1 defeat in Dallas was followed by a 1-1 tie at DC United, but this time when his team took the lead against the Timbers, Marsch was pleased with the way they responded. "The lesson of how to deal with a lead has been delivered and received in a good way," said Marsch after the match. "When we got the lead, it was like we had been here before and knew how to handle it. We killed the game at different moments and kept the ball at different moments and still had opportunities to increase the lead which we managed to do." "Being an expansion team, there are a thousand lessons that you go through. We are not done with that one because there will still be moments in games when we get leads and it will get crazy. Our way of going through it will still need to be worked on, but the maturity of our team is coming across and the development of commonality of who we are and what we are about is coming around so that is good. We know we can still get better, but against Portland, it was a dominant performance from start to finish," he said. Past records have shown the importance for MLS clubs of hiring coaches who are immersed in the North American game, and that stands true even moreso for an expansion team. What Marsch lacks in head coaching experience, he certainly makes up for in MLS knowledge. As a long-time player in the league, Marsch knows what it takes to win. He has worked with some of the top coaches on this side of the Atlantic, and is trying to use that knowledge to create a firm base on which to build. When Marsch talks, it seems his players have so far been receptive to his teaching. Montreals progress will be severely tested next weekend when they visit Eastern Conference leaders Sporting Kansas City, and it is worth noting that all of their points so far have come against teams that failed to make the playoffs last season. Torrey Smith Camo Jersey. Nonetheless, eight points is a respectable total and one that only three teams in the East have bettered so far. For now, attention turns to a home match against Toronto FC in the first leg of the Amway Canadian Championship semi-final. As an expansion side, league form must be the priority for Montreal this year rather than progress in the Canadian Championship and CONCACAF Champions League, but as his side continues to improve, the Cup match will offer the opportunity to get playing time for some of the players who havent been starting regularly in MLS. Sinisa Ubiparipovic came off the bench to score Montreals second goal against Portland. It was only his third league appearance of the year, but following on from his impressive display in his first start against Toronto FC earlier in the month, it gives Marsch some decisions to make. "I am fortunate as a coach to have a lot of players who look really sharp right now," said Marsch. "That would include Sinisa, Lamar Neagle, Nelson Rivas is coming back, Hassoun Camara has looked good, so has Patrice Bernier. That is a very good thing to have as a team. "Different games require different things and I am fortunate to have certain tools at our disposal now to put into the game. Moving forward Sinisa will continue to make it hard on me to not include him in the lineup." Marsch is in an enviable situation where he has quality players unable to get into the team on a regular basis, because those in the starting eleven are performing well. So the team put out by the Impact in the Canadian Championship on Wednesday will include a number of players eager to send a message to the coach. Of course, there will be many setbacks along the way, but the signs are good that the Impact are on the right track and Marsch deserves much credit for the way he has so far handled the testing times that accompany an expansion season. Montreal Impacts next home game against LA Galaxy will be broadcast live on MLS on TSN on Saturday, May 12 at 4pm et/1pm pt. ' ' ' |
