WASHINGTON -- On a bright, sunny afternoon, R. Kirk Cousins Jersey .A. Dickey had the Washington hitters swinging at shadows. The knuckleballer baffled the Nationals, limiting them to four singles over 7 1-3 scoreless innings and leading the New York Mets to a 3-1 win Thursday. Dickey (9-1) extended the longest shutout string of his career to 24 2-3 innings -- a span that began against Pittsburgh and continued against San Diego, St. Louis and the Nats. "Literally, when I go out there, the only streak I care about is getting that hitter out," he said. "It doesnt change the mentality because theres a run of scoreless innings." Dickey became the first pitcher in the majors to reach nine wins this season, backed by Lucas Dudas fifth homer in eight games. Dickey also exceeded his victory total from last year, when he often was the victim of poor run support. "Im getting more swings and misses. Other than that, Im not doing anything differently," Dickey said. "Im trying to induce them into hitting pieces of the ball, not getting solid contact," he said. Nationals teen Bryce Harper fanned twice. He awkwardly chased strike three in the first inning, then casually flipped his bat. No luck today, rookie. "He throws it hard, throws it soft. Sometimes, it starts at your face and goes down through the strike zone. Hes a pretty unbelievable pitcher. It was pretty fun to face him, but going 0 for 4 is not fun," he said. "Youre just trying to look for something up in the zone or just trying to swing as hard as you can or something. I dont even know. This is my first time really facing a knuckeball guy like that," he said. Duda hit his 10th homer, a two-run shot in the fifth against Chien-Ming Wang (1-2). Daniel Murphy, who earlier bounced into an inning-ending double play that left him in a 0-for-19 rut, later added an RBI single. The way Dickey has been pitching lately, those three runs were more than enough. He struck out eight and walked two, and most of the outs were soft ones. When Adam LaRoche worked out an 11-pitch walk, it was a major accomplishment. Mets manager Terry Collins said nice weather has been a factor in Dickeys good fortune, allowing him a better grip and therefore better command. "When you get in that batters box, you better be ready to hit something thats fluttering," he said. Dickey credited a harder knuckleball -- thrown in the low 80s mph, up from the mid-70s -- with giving him a later, better break on the pitch. "I feel comfortable with where I am with the pitch," he said. "And look: Its a knuckleball. It can be fickle." Washington never got a runner past second base when Dickey was on the mound. He worked out of a two-on, no-out jam in the seventh and left after Jhonatan Solanos one-out single in the eighth. Reliever Bobby Parnell walked Rick Ankiel and after the runners moved up on a grounder, Harper grounded out to end the threat. Frank Francisco gave up Ryan Zimmermans leadoff home run in the ninth before closing for his 15th save in 18 chances. The win stopped the Mets three-game losing streak heading into the Subway Series that begins Friday night at Yankee Stadium. The Mets had lost the first two at Nationals Park in the series. Wang allowed eight hits in 5 1-3 innings in his second start of the season. The Mets won for just the second time in 10 meetings with Washington since last September. There wasnt a whole lot for Nationals fans to cheer about on a bright afternoon until Zimmermans third homer. Midway through the game, however, there was a ripple of applause throughout the crowd of 32,096 when clouds briefly blocked the glare. NOTES: Dickeys previous best scoreless streak was 18 innings in 2010. ... Harper had the wind knocked out of him diving for David Wrights triple in the ninth. He is also nursing a tender back and has been getting treatment, manager Davey Johnson said. "Well have to monitor him pretty close," Johnson said. Said Harper: "Im good. Im totally fine to play. I wont be out of the lineup." ... Mets LF Jason Bay was a late scratch because of flulike symptoms. He has been out since April 23 because of a broken rib, and was activated from the disabled list this week. ... Mets LHP Johan Santana will start Friday night at Yankee Stadium in his first outing since throwing a no-hitter. Collins said Santana, who threw a career-high 134 pitches in that gem last Friday, wont be on a pitch count. ... Nationals RHP Stephen Strasburg is set to start Friday night at Fenway Park. Manager Davey Johnson said he doesnt expect to use an infield shift against Boston lefty slugger David Ortiz, not with the heat Strasburg brings. ... Mets RHP Jon Rauch will be examined Friday. The reliever has a tender elbow and has lost five straight decisions. ... Mets SS Omar Quintanilla started despite an injured left index finger. Pierre Garcon Black Jersey . In fact, the Toronto FC captain seems amazed that he has it. "I love Toronto," the former German international said Friday in what may have been his first English-only sit-down with local reporters. Alfred Morris Youth Jersey . Going into these playoffs he was well down the Canadian depth chart, or at least that was the sense. There were at least six centres you could think of that were ahead of him; Sidney Crosby, Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Ryan Getzlaf, Joe Thornton and Vincent Lecavalier. http://www.nflredskinsfansstore.com/nike-pierre-garcon-Redskins-jersey/ . Doe signed with the Blue Bombers in August and appeared in three games last season, registering two defensive tackles and two special teams tackles. He spent the rest of the season on the practice roster. Perry Riley Womens Jersey . He was 59. Roundfield, who played 11 professional seasons with Indiana, Atlanta, Detroit and Washington, had been swimming with his wife, Bernie, off the southeastern tip of Aruba on Monday when they became caught in rough water beyond a protected reef area, said John Larmonie, a police spokesman on the southern Caribbean island. London Fletcher Black Jersey . The decision was announced Monday and will reduce downforce by about 9 per cent. IndyCar vice-president of technology Will Phillips says reducing the downforce makes the cars difficult to drive, and most of the drivers have been asking for that challenge.ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The way things are going for the Los Angeles Angels, its difficult for Jered Weaver to focus on the fact that he is one victory away from his first 20-win season in the majors. Then again, the only reason the Angels still have a shot at a post-season berth is because their ace keeps winning. Weaver kept them within striking distance in the AL wild-card chase, posting his league-leading 19th victory on Sunday with a 4-1 decision over the struggling Chicago White Sox. Albert Pujols reached the 100-RBI mark for the 11th time in 12 big league seasons with a two-run double as the Angels remained 2 1/2 games behind Oakland for the second wild-card spot. Kendrys Morales hit a two-run homer that helped the Angels complete a three-game sweep. "Obviously theres a little bit of scoreboard watching going on now as we dwindle now here," Weaver said. "But weve got to do what weve got to do and not worry about what other teams are doing. Its obviously a great sweep, and hopefully we can keep it rolling against Seattle." The White Sox lost their fifth in a row and led Detroit by a half-game in the AL Central. The Tigers lost the opener of their day-night doubleheader against Minnesota. Weaver (19-4) threw 113 pitches in 6 1-3 innings, allowing a run and five hits with four strikeouts and dropping his ERA to 2.74. He finished his home slate 11-2, including a no-hitter against Minnesota on May 2. The three-time All-Star right-hander established a career high for wins, eclipsing his total from last season. "To get one more than last year is great, and now Ive got a couple more starts to try and get 20," Weaver said. "It wasnt a personal goal of mine by any means, but its nice to get a new career high. Any win right now is important, personal accolades aside. Thats what weve got to do -- win ballgames, no matter what it takes." The victory didnt come easily for Weaver, who battled through 94-degree heat during a 33-pitch first inning. He escaped a bases-loaded jam, striking out Alex Rios at the end of an 11-pitch at-bat and retiring A.J. Pierzynski on a grounder. "It felt like it was a million degrees out there," Weaver said. "Having to throw upwards of 30 pitches in the first is obviously not what you want to do, but they made me work. Thats what their game plan was, and they did a good job of it. It was a little erratic and it could have been a lot worse, so it was good to come out of that first one unscathed and be able to extend it into the seventh. Pierre Garcon Camo Jersey. " White Sox manager Robin Ventura bemoaned his teams failure again to come through in the clutch. They were 1 for 17 with runners in scoring position during the series. "We had Weaver in trouble early and were in a really good position, but he showed again why hes a good pitcher and we just couldnt cash in," Ventura said. "Im sure hes been in situations like that before." Kevin Jepsen threw 1 2-3 scoreless innings in relief of Weaver. Garrett Richards, Scott Downs and Ernesto Frieri each retired a batter in the ninth because of lefty-righty matchups. "The reason we did that today was because a lot of our bullpen guys had been pitching a lot," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Garrett had a little bit in him, Downs had a little bit in him and Ernie has a little bit in him. So when you added it up, you hope youll get a full inning." Gavin Floyd (10-11) gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings while striking out eight. Chicagos only run came in the seventh, when Pierzynski doubled, advanced on Weavers wild pitch and scored on Dayan Viciedos sacrifice fly. Floyd matched zeros with Weaver until the sixth, when the Angels erupted for four runs. Mike Trout walked with one out, Torii Hunter sent him to third with a hit-and-run single to left field, Pujols lined the next pitch to left field to score both runners and Morales followed with his 22nd homer. "You walk the first guy -- and not a good guy to walk because it puts a lot of pressure on you with Trout getting on base," Floyd said. "Torii got the base hit, and it happened pretty quick. It wasnt one of those drawn-out innings." NOTES: Weaver is 101-51 with a 3.23 ERA through his first 205 major league starts. Brother Jeff was 76-84 record with a 3.09 ERA in his first 205 big league starts with the Tigers, Yankees and Dodgers. ... The Angels have won only five games all season in which they scored fewer than three runs, and five different pitchers started those games. Oddly enough, Weaver wasnt one of them. ... The Angels have swept seven series of three or more games this season, and five of them have come since Aug. 20, including a three-game set against Detroit on their previous homestand. ... Paul Konerko is 2 for 22 lifetime against Weaver after going 1 for 2 with a walk. ... Trout has scored a major league-high 122 runs, two shy of the Angels franchise record set by Vladimir Guerrero in 2004. ' ' '
