MIAMI -- Once the San Francisco Giants started scoring for Ryan Vogelsong, the runs kept coming. Reggie Wayne Black Jersey . Melky Cabrera and Angel Pagan drove in four runs apiece Thursday, and the Giants gave Vogelsong robust support for a change to beat the Miami Marlins 14-7. "Good to see the boys swinging a little bit," said Vogelsong (3-2). "Good sign." The right-hander allowed three runs in 6 1-3 innings, which hiked his ERA to 2.50. The Giants had totalled 22 runs in his previous seven starts, but this time he took the mound in the seventh with an 8-1 lead. "Every time he pitches, he really focuses on keeping the other guys really low on scoring runs," said Gregor Blanco, who scored three runs. "We have to support him. Thats what we did tonight." The Giants came into the game leading the majors in stranded runners, but went 7 for 17 with runners in scoring position. Their run total and 15 hits were both season highs. Pagan had a pair of broken-bat two-run doubles, while Cabrera had three hits and raised his average to .362. The Giants victory came at the start of a four-game series. Miami swept three games in San Francisco early this month. "You like to see your offence break out," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "Thats something we havent done, especially against this club." Giancarlo Stanton drove in three runs and hit another tape-measure home run for the Marlins. They began the night with the best record in the majors since May 1, but lost their second in a row. "Thats the worst game weve played all year," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "All-around very ugly." A long, humbling night for Miami included a botched rundown, a throwing error, two wild pitches, 11 men left on base and one pratfall. First baseman Logan Morrison ducked and landed with an awkward flop to avoid being hit in the head by a throw home from right fielder Stanton. The bizarre moment left both players laughing. "That kind of game, youre scratching your head," Guillen said. "You have to turn the page as quick as you can." Anibal Sanchez (2-3) gave up five runs in 5 1-3 innings, his shortest and worst outing this year. He had allowed a total of three runs in his four previous starts against the Giants. "Sanchez has been tough on us in the past," Vogelsong said. "It was good to see us kind of get to him a little bit." The game was tied at 1 when the Giants wiggled out of a rundown and went on to score four runs in the sixth. Gregor Blanco tripled and was briefly hung up on a grounder back to Sanchez, but he scrambled safely back to third when catcher Brett Hayes held the ball too long. "One little play changed the game," Guillen said. After a walk loaded the bases, Pagan hit a two-run double, another run scored on a wild pitch and Brandon Belt blooped an RBI single over a drawn-in infield to put the Giants up 5-1 and end Sanchezs night. "A lot of bloopers, a lot of bad luck," Sanchez said. "Its part of baseball." The Marlins sometimes celebrate big hits by making a "lo viste" sign -- a sideways V over one eye -- and a grinning Pagan borrowed the gesture after he singled home a run in the fourth inning. Consecutive two-run doubles by Brandon Crawford and Cabrera in the eighth put the Giants ahead 12-3. Stanton became the first player to homer into the beer garden beyond the 427-foot sign in left-centre field some 50 feet above the playing field. It was his 10th homer this season and gave Miami a 1-0 lead in the second inning. "Hes strong," Vogelsong said. "I challenged him, he hit it." On Monday, a grand slam by Stanton knocked out a cluster of scoreboard lights. He had a shot at his third grand slam of the season in the fifth, but fouled out to end the inning. CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Two blown leads, two overtime losses. The Miami Dolphins had become masters of last-minute misery in their past two games, finding creative ways to give em way. An easy interception let them finally finish one off. Reshad Jones picked off Andy Daltons overthrown pass at midfield with 1:22 left on Sunday, preserving a 17-13 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals that ended back-to-back weeks of heartbreak for Miami. "We had two tough weeks leading up to this one," rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill said. "Guys really talked all week about how weve got to finish. We were two plays away from having a winning record." Miami (2-3) had led at halftime before losing to the New York Jets and Arizona in overtime. The last one really stung -- Tannehill had a fumble that helped the Cardinals tie it, then an interception in overtime that set up a 24-21 defeat. The Bengals (3-2) had a chance to make them sweat another one out, but blew it. Mike Nugent missed a 42-yard field goal try with 3 minutes left, his first miss of the season. After the Dolphins ran down the clock and forced the Bengals to spend their timeouts, Cincinnati took over at its 20-yard line following a punt. Dalton was under pressure when he sailed a pass intended for Andrew Hawkins, giving Jones an easy interception. "I have to give it to the front line," Jones said. "They got the pressure on the quarterback. I just needed to make a play." The Bengals never got anything going consistently on offence. Dalton was only 26 of 43 for 234 yards with two interceptions and three sacks against a defence that came in ranked No. 1 in the league against the run. Miami had one advantage: Defensive co-ordinator Kevin Coyle was a Bengals assistant for the past 11 seasons and knew a few things about how their offence operates. "Hes never had a problem motivating guys," Bengals safety Chris Crocker said. "Youll definitely play hard if youre in one of his defences. Their front seven really played a heck of a ballgame." So did their rookie quarterback. The Bengals are in the midst of a stretch of five consecutive games against teams starting rookie or second-year quarterbacks. Theyd won the first three by turning up the pressure -- Cincinnati led the NFL in sacks coming into Sundays game. They couldnt rattle Tannehill, who was coming off his best game -- 431 yards in the overtime losss at Arizona, the most by an NFL quarterback on the road. T.Y. Hilton Youth Jersey. He followed it with a mistake-free showing. Michael Johnson sacked Tannehill the first time he tried to throw, but the Bengals got to him only once more. Tannehill finished 17 of 26 for 223 yards without an interception. His passer rating of 92.3 was his best yet. "Its fun," Tannehill said. "When the pressure mounts, I think thats what brings the best out of a quarterback. "The last couple of weeks, we had a good game, but we just werent able to make that play at the end." Tannehill completed passes of 15, 24 and 13 yards in a drive that led to Daniel Thomas 1-yard touchdown run that put the Dolphins ahead to stay 7-6 late in the first half. He avoided the rush and completed a 28-yard pass that set up Reggie Bushs 13-yard touchdown run to start the third quarter. It could have been even easier for the Dolphins. Fullback Jorvorskie Lane fumbled on a carry from the Cincinnati 11-yard line in the first half. Still, it was more than enough for a defence that contained the Dalton-to-Green passing combo. Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Green finished with nine catches for only 65 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown. Cincinnati had to settle for a pair of field goals in the first half, when Miamis defence held on a first-and-goal from the 4-yard line. "The offence didnt play well across the board," Dalton said. "Its tough sitting here where we are. We had our chances, but we couldnt get it done." Tackle Randy Starks reached up and picked off Daltons pass early in the second half, a two-handed grab as the ball reached the line. The interception set up the drive that ended in Bushs 13-yard touchdown run. Notes: The Dolphins won without CB Richard Marshall, inactive after missing practice all week with a bad back. Nolan Carroll started in his place and left early in the third quarter to get evaluated for a concussion. ... Bengals LB Rey Maualuga left for a concussion evaluation in the second half, but returned. ... RB Bernard Scott had a 29-yard run in the first quarter, the longest allowed by the Dolphins this season. He hurt his left knee in the first half and didnt return. ... Cincinnati rushed for only 80 yards. The Dolphins havent allowed a 100-yard rusher for 19 consecutive games, their longest streak since 2002-03, when they went 20 games without allowing one. ' ' '
