NEW YORK -- NHL general managers couldnt settle anything Wednesday during a 4 1/2-hour meeting to discuss potential rules changes. Hines Ward Womens Jersey . The most intriguing proposal wont even be truly considered until a year from now, at the earliest. In an attempt to curtail teams in the playoffs from "sending a message" in a physical and illegal way, penalties incurred in the closing minutes of a post-season game could be "travelled" or carried over to the next game in the series. These would be penalties that wouldnt necessarily be subject to a suspension, but also not incidental to the regular course of play. One example could be the hit that Nashvilles Shea Weber laid on Detroits Henrik Zetterberg in the first round. Weber was fined US$2,500 for smashing Zetterbergs head into the glass. "Its radical," Red Wings GM Ken Holland said. "We think there is something there. Lets all stew on it, lets think about it, and when we reconvene next year, we can further discuss it if we think its got merit. Nobody else does it, so we dont just want to sit here in a room and in 10 minutes make that determination. "The reason you put rules in, you really dont want people to break the rules. But if they do break the rules, then you want to have somebody with some power to discipline somebody. Right now, is there a grey area late in the game whereby there is not a suspension and people can do a lot of message-sending, does a deterrent of a possible travelling penalty have merit?" The GMs also discussed the hybrid icing rule, which combines touch and no-touch icing. Although only one player was injured this season on an icing play, there is concern that races for the puck at the end boards creates a potentially unnecessary dangerous situation. Before that would ever be adopted into the NHL, the GMs would like to try it out in the American Hockey League. It is already used in college hockey. Several of the managers are also concerned that the game is becoming too defensive-minded and trending more toward a soccer-type style. The New York Rangers secured the top seed in the East and reached the conference finals by strengthening their defensive play with a team-wide dedication to blocking shots. After the NHL lockout wiped out the 2004-05 NHL season, a package of new rules to spice up the game was adopted. Something similar could be coming in the not so distant future. "I like offence in the game and I like offensive opportunities," Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis said. "If those opportunities arent present in the course of a game, I dont like it and I dont support that. "What Ive seen is the lowering of scoring opportunities. You dont see many odd-man rushes at all, and the collapsing around your own net to block shots and not challenge the point man." The NHL plans to have a bit of a rules summit in August to discuss what issues clubs are having with rules such as hooking, holding and interference, and what changes might have to be made in the way those infractions are whistled. General managers, coaches, players and referees are expected to attend. "I want to know what is real," said Colin Campbell, the NHLs senior vice-president of hockey operations. "Sometimes you can get more at the problem in August after the season has gone away before we start another season." Max Starks Jersey . The Real Madrid midfielder, who last played an international when Brazil was beaten in the quarterfinals at the 2010 World Cup by the Netherlands, added the third goal in the 47th minute at Swebank Stadium. Its the fourth career win for Peters, who overtook Ron Hornaday Jr. with 10 laps left to become the third pole-sitter to win a trucks race in four events in Iowa. Emmanuel Sanders Womens Jersey .C. - The Toronto Marlies relied on three of their biggest names for a win on Saturday night. Casey Hampton Jersey . The English were fortunate to take Sundays quarterfinal match to a penalty shootout, which they lost, after being outclassed in Kyiv. It wasnt an isolated incident. Despite holding France and beating Sweden and Ukraine, England spent a great deal of time on the back foot at Euro 2012.The Canadian Olympic Committee will be almost doubling its financial support for Olympic sports over the next four years with an injection of about $100 million, president Marcel Aubut said Wednesday. Ottawa has also promised to keep its funding for Olympic sport intact, he said. "This money ... coming from the (federal) government, . . . plus the $100 million, will guarantee a bright and golden future for Canadian Olympic athletes," he said on a conference call that included presidents of some of the national sports federations. Aubut says the COC spent somewhere just over $50 million over the last four years, with almost all of it coming from corporate donors, and is only able to increase that amount because of their support. "This announcement would not be possible without the unbelievable support of Canadas corporate community," he said. The $100 million will go to support both summer and winter events as well as to prepare for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto. It represents an injection of close to $50 million in new money, Aubut said. When pressed for more information on where the new money is coming from, Aubut pointed to the extended sponsorship agreements already announced this year. "We have already announced huge agreements with the Hudsons Bay Co., with Royal Bank of Canada RBC, with Suncor, with General Mills, with Bell Canada, with Air Canada." Aubut said there are more deals to come before Christmas and some next year. But he provided only broad strokes to desscribe where the money will go. Jack Ham Jersey. "One, absolute priority (is) high-performance sport. Two, games preparation. Three, best-in class . . . and four, a specific envelope, a very unique envelope, for the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games." He promised a series of more detailed announcements across the country to flesh out where the money will be spent. Aubut says the money will be part of the 2013 to 2016 high-performance action plan for athletes, coaches and national sport federations. "Athletes and coaches are at the centre of everything we do," he said. The announcement was welcomed by the leaders of some of Canadas national sports federations. "I think, after Vancouver, we know now that its OK to participate but its a very good feeling to win and to be part of the top countries in the world," said Marie-Claire Rouleau, president of Speedksating Canada. "Money makes it possible." Rebecca Khoury of Karate Canada gave credit to Aubut and the COC for their work. "Once again the team of the Canadian Olympic Committee has more than delivered for the country," she said. The commitment Aubut says he has received from Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Bal Gosal, the minister of state for sport, is also good news for Canadian athletes. Ottawa had extended support for the Own the Podium program through 2012 but has yet to offer details of what will follow. It has provided about $70 million a year that is divided between summer and winter sports. ' ' '
