LONDON -- Describing the role as "torture" at times, victorious Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal ruled out the possibility of staying on for the 2014 competition at Gleneagles. Blaine Gabbert Elite Jersey . The Spaniard returned to Europe on Monday night, cradling the gleaming golden trophy and still reveling in Europes stirring rally over the United States at Medinah on Sunday. Spains King Juan Carlos and tennis star Rafael Nadal were among those who sent Olazabal messages of congratulations after the 14 1/2-13 1/2 win that kept the cup in European hands. But after seven matches as a player -- during which he teamed up so effectively with the late Seve Ballesteros -- and now another as a winning captain, he has come to the end of his 25-year Ryder Cup career. "I can assure you it will be a no, period," Olazabal said Tuesday, when asked if he would stay on. "Its a lot of work ... it takes a lot out of you for a stretch of time. It is difficult. In a way, its torture. "On top of that, there are a lot of players who should have the opportunity to be in my spot. The Ryder Cup is only played once every two years and there are a big number of players that have the chance to be in my position. I wont do it again." Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley, two of Olazabals four assistants in Medinah, are early favourites to take over. A decision will be made in January by the European Tours tournament committee, headed by Thomas Bjorn, another of Olazabals assistants. "I think these two (Clarke and McGinley) deserve a chance but I think Thomas deserves a chance and also Paul Lawrie," Olazabal said. "Once those guys do it, we have Lee (Westwood), Padraig (Harrington). "We have at least eight or nine guys that have the chance and there only a certain number of Ryder Cups. It would be hard to name just one or two." And what about Ian Poulter? The Englishman won a match-high four points in Medinah, including one in Saturdays fourballs that Olazabal considers the most important of them all. The win brought Europe within 10-6 and gave the team crucial momentum heading into Sunday. Poulter now has the best winning record of any European who has played more than two Ryder Cups and his passion for the event has seen him described as the "modern-day Seve." "He will be a wonderful captain for sure," Olazabal said. "But he will need another 12 players just like him." Olazabal, who has been surviving on "two or three hours" of sleep a night, will return to Spain and start answering some of the 100-plus messages left on his phone following his flight back from the U.S. "The phone has been really hot -- out of all the messages, there is one that stunned me a bit," he said. "The King of Spain just rang me a few minutes ago. He was pretty much like me, over the moon. That was a nice one. "But there have been sports guys like Nadal and others from Spain. Everyone from all over the world." The memory of Ballesteros inspired the team in Sundays dramatic singles, which Europe won 8 1/2-3 1/2 to engineer Europes biggest turnaround in the events history, matching that of the U.S at Brookline in 1999. Honouring the memory of Ballesteros was a motivating factor behind Europes recovery. But Olazabals influence was also crucial. "Jose Maria has lived for this game all his life and more than anything this competition," said Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium, who flanked Olazabal at a news conference at Heathrow airport, with the Ryder Cup placed in front of them. "He made it clear to us this thing here is very, very special. "Everyone looked at each other and understood the importance of this cup in this mans life. At some stage during the week, you looked at this guys eyes, and they were just how they were when he played. Every time he went out with Seve into the storm, everybody saw these two men were very special and how big a deal this cup was." Colsaerts was one of four players in their 20s in Europes team, along with Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy and Francesco Molinari. With the likes of Luke Donald and Graeme McDowell still having plenty of Ryder Cups left in them and young players such as Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark and Matteo Manassero of Italy considered stars of the future, Europe looks well stocked. "You dont know what the future will bring -- who would have thought we would have players like Rory or Nicolas seven years ago?" Olazabal said. "Thats the beauty of the European Tour. It always produces great players." Blaine Gabbert Limited Jersey .C. -- Andrew Harris is preparing to soar among the clouds at breakneck speed, but still striving to keep his ego on the ground. Harrison extended his consecutive scoreless streak to 16 1-3 innings, pitching into the eighth before Mike Adams and Joe Nathan closed out the Rangers third shutout victory in their past five games, 1-0 over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night. http://www.shopthejaguarsjersey.com/justin-blackmon-jerseys . He can score the highlight reel goal, he can make the big plays as a playmaker and, because of his size, he is very difficult to knock off the puck. Maurice Jones-Drew Youth Jersey . Joe Fallon stopped 32 shots in regulation and overtime for Houston, then stopped all six shooters he faced in the shootout. Danny Taylor made 21 saves for Abbotsford, as well as five of Houstons shooters in the shootout. Uche Nwaneri Jersey . But this time, he needed some help from his defence to make it count. MADRID, Spain -- Barcelona provided manager Pep Guardiola with the perfect send-off by thrashing Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in the Copa del Rey final on Friday, earning the clubs most successful coach a 14th trophy. Pedro Rodriguez scored either side of Lionel Messis 73rd goal of the season as the Catalan club demonstrated the virtues -- quick-touch passing, intricate combinations and clinical finishing -- that marked Guardiolas four seasons at the helm. Barcelonas record 26th domestic cup gave the bittersweet season some shine, partially making up for its failure to repeat as Champions League and Spanish league winners. "We had a very good year, we won four titles and winning this cup gives them better value," Guardiola said. "Im happy to close out the season this way." Athletics chase for its first silverware since 1984 again faltered as the young Basque team showed little improvement from the side beaten 3-0 by Atletico Madrid in the Europa League final this month, leaving its first season under coach Marcelo Bielsa without silverware. Pedro likely secured a spot in Spains Euro 2012 squad by scoring in the third and 25th minutes, five minutes after Messi extended his season goal tally -- unprecedented in European football. The fans filling the 55,000-seat Calderon Stadium were united moments before the start as Catalan and Basque spectators -- many self-defined by their hostility to the centralized national government -- jeered the playing of the Spanish anthem, just as they did in Valencia three years ago when Barcelonas 4-1 win over Bilbao provided Guardiola with his maiden title. Barcelona won the Club World Cup, European Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup this season to make it 14 of a possible 19 titles for the 41-year-old coach -- who now stands aside to be replaced by assistant Tito Vilanova -- since taking charge in 2008. "I feel like I left some good things behind for the club and that others will continue the good work," Guardiola said. "Now I will rest and try in the future a new challenge." Barcelonas defence coped without injured trio Carles Puyol, Eric Abidal and Daniel Alves, while Pedro got the nod in attack over Cesc Fabregas. Bielsa pushed Javi Martinez up from centerback in a bid to contain Messi, but that strategy failed miserably as Barcelona went ahead early and Bilbao looked nothing like the team that beat Manchester United and Schalke this year. Bryan Anger Jersey. "I envisioned and prepared a game where we look to be protagonists with intensity, dynamism, and today we werent able to achieve that," said Bielsa, who revealed nothing about his future with his contract about to expire. "We didnt plan right." Barcelona opened when Ibai Gomez failed to clear Gerard Piques flick-on from a corner, with Pedro well-positioned inside the area to slot home. Messi, who curled just wide in the opening stages, received an exquisite cross pass from Andres Iniesta and the Argentina forward fired with his weaker right foot over goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz into the roof of goal. The only other player to have scored 70 goals in a first-division season was Archie Stark of Bethlehem Steel in the American Soccer League in 1924-25. "Hes a more competitive player now than when I arrived. In finals, hes always a determining factor," Guardiola said of the 24-year-old, who has become the clubs all-time leading scorer under his tutelage. "Its been a privilege to have coached the best player that Ive ever seen or will ever see." Barcelonas high pressure and up-tempo play were rewarded with a third goal as Xavi Hernandez laid off for Pedro to scream a low roller beyond the fingertips of the diving Iraizoz. "Im very happy because its been a tough and difficult year for me," said Pedro, who found himself on the substitutes bench for much of the season. Bilbao had chances from the close of the first-half when Barcelona keeper Jose Manuel Pinto saved from Iker Muniain after turning it over, while Ibai Gomez shot wide at an open goal in the 53rd. But the Basque side was clearly outmatched as Iraizoz stuck out a foot to deny Messi late on. None of the 10 potential Spain squad members between the teams were seriously injured, although Xavi limped off to be replaced by Fabregas in the 81st. Spain opens its European Championship title defence against Italy in just over two weeks. The victory ensured a Spanish Super Cup clasico in August when Barcelona will play league champion Real Madrid. 19:40ET 25-05-12 ' ' '
