ENGLEWOOD, Colo. Joel Dreessen Womens Jersey . -- Peyton Manning looked as though nothing had changed after sitting out last season because of a neck injury. Dont be fooled, though, says the Broncos quarterback -- plenty is different. And not just the horse on his helmet. Manning insists hes still searching for a comfort zone in Denver and figures his transition after 14 seasons in Indianapolis will take all season. Same with his rehab from the nerve injury that caused weakness in his throwing arm and forced him to miss last season. Broncos boss John Elway agrees, telling The Associated Press that Mannings arm strength is "probably not where he wants it to be. I dont know if itll ever be where he wants it to be, but to me, its plenty adequate right now." Teammates, opponents, even his former coach, NBC analyst Tony Dungy, who was on hand to chronicle his Denver debut, agreed that Manning hadnt missed a beat. Appearances can be deceiving, though. Just last week, Manning said, "I have some things that I deal with myself, but I kind of keep that between me and the trainer." Mannings game, this new offence, his timing with his targets, even his health, are all works in progress, Elway told the AP in an interview Thursday. "Theres going to be adjustments week in and week out," Elway said. "He knew those guys in Indy, those receivers, he had them forever and so it will be a work in progress, to me, as long as Peytons here, because hes going to change things and theres going to be new things all the time. "And especially with his rehab and continuing to work because I dont know if hes where he wants to be. It doesnt sound like it is. But Im not sure if hell ever get to where he wants to be unless he wins two Super Bowls and hell say, Im where I want to be." Elway is betting Manning gets to hoist that second Vince Lombardi trophy. The quarterbacks work ethic is "what gave us confidence that he was going to be able to come back and be as close to the Peyton he was of old," Elway said. "The question was: How fast? And hes made tremendous strides from the time we saw him in March until now. Hes just kept getting better and better. Plus, he worked his tail off, and we saw it in training camp. He had a good training camp. The arms getting stronger all the time, too." Manning never has been known for throwing frozen ropes like Brett Favre. "No, hes always been the cerebral guy, and its the way he plays the game and takes advantage of everything on the cerebral side," Elway said. "And I think the mind never goes backward, unless it gets hit and knocked out or something like that. But thats why its just a matter of physically if he could get caught back up. "A lot of its like riding a bike for him and plus putting in new, different things that he can do because he loves the mental side and the mental warfare that goes on with the game, as we saw last week when he stood there and stared at Troy Polamalu for 20 seconds down in the red zone. So, he loves the mental warfare that goes on and hell just continue to get better with that." Elway said hes having a ball watching No. 18. "Hes already in the Hall of Fame. Hes one of the best quarterbacks to play the game now and so hes just trying to add to that legacy," Elway said. "Plus, he raises everybody around him because they know that he gives us a chance to compete every time we go into a ballgame. And thats huge for a team, to have that hope. Thats what gets everybody fired up and ready to play week in and week out, to know that you can win that game." Elway said the biggest barrier in Mannings transition is learning a second language at age 36 -- the new terminology he had to absorb as the Broncos blended their old power formations with some of the spread formations he ran in Indianapolis. After a solid preseason, Manning looked as sharp as ever in his Denver debut, completing 73 per cent of his passes and posting an AFC-best 129.2 passer rating in a 31-19 win over Pittsburgh last weekend. "Gosh, like he hadnt missed a beat," was how Atlanta coach Mike Smith described it. "He was very efficient, looked like the Peyton Manning that I watched two years ago when he was playing. "I thought he had a very good command of the offence, threw the ball extremely well, had some throws off to the wide side of the field that looked like the old Peyton," added Smith, whose Falcons (1-0) host the Broncos (1-0) Monday night. "And watching him run the no-huddle was reminiscent of having to play against him when I was in Jacksonville." Thats the Manning that Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey has seen every day in practice: "Hes back," Bailey said. "Hes back and hes ready. Ive never seen a guy work as hard as him. I look forward to good things every week." Three Broncos who played with Manning in Indianapolis are hard-pressed to find any fissures in the game of the four-time MVP whos coming off four neck operations. "Well, nothings different really, I guess the uniform," running back Lance Ball said. "Hes getting better every week, but hes the same guy," said tight end Jacob Tamme. "To me, he looks the same," said slot receiver Brandon Stokley. "But Peyton, hes the type of guy thats always going to say hes got more work to do and he needs to get better. So, thats just the way he is." Thats what makes him great, Ball said. "Any great player will always be critical of themselves and always see that theres room for improvement," Ball said. "You can never be perfect." Dungy said it looks like opponents will have to deal with Manning and his no-huddle offence for years to come. And Elway, who won his two Super Bowl titles at ages 37 and 38, said he believes Manning can be as good in Denver as he ever was in Indianapolis. "Hes not a guy that gets hit a lot and he plays a cerebral game," Elway said. "And so, thats why to me he can play as long as he wants to play and he feels like hes living up to the standards that hes set for himself. And hell be the one that determines that." NEW YORK -- The NHL and the players association met for a third straight day Sunday, and again avoided the troublesome money issues that are fueling the ongoing lockout. "We did not discuss core economic issues, as was the plan," NHLPA special counsel Steve Fehr said after meeting for five hours with the NHL. "We discussed health and safety, drug testing, including more discussion of drug testing, medical care etc. Also a number of things in the CBA legal area of player movements." The drug policy was a key component of talks Friday when the sides got together for the first time since the NHL imposed the lockout on Sept. 16. On Saturday, the sides focused on clarifications of definitions of what makes up hockey-related revenue -- a pot that exceeded $3 billion. "It was a productive day. We made some progress in some areas," Fehr said Sunday. "I would say its good that we were talking. Its true that we couldve done this last week or a week before or a week before that, but its a lot better than doing it three weeks from now." Because of difficulty in finding common ground on how to split up that money, the league and union instead concentrated all weekend on secondary issues that will also be included in any new agreement. "I hate to sound like a broken record, but we need some movement on the economic issues. We need some movement on the system issues," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. "We need them to be scheduled as the subject of a meeting, and right now the union is not prepared to do that." Negotiations on Sunday were conducted at the league office without NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. They met privately Friday and Saturday, away from the other group negotiations. "t;I think that may demonstrate more than anything else the nature of the issues were talking about," Daly said about the absences of Bettman and Donald Fehr. Peyton Manning Game Jersey. "Were really talking about kind of micro issues, issues we deal with on a day-to-day basis that dont necessarily rise to the commissioners level or the executive directors level. "So they will be at the table when were talking about the issues that are really going to get this deal done or not." There was a thought that talks might continue Monday, but that doesnt seem likely as the NHL wants to meet internally with its clubs before getting back together with the players association. "We covered a lot of things over the last three days," Daly said. "We both have a lot of homework projects to do and drafts we owe each other on certain things. We think (Monday) would be best used for that purpose. "What we did today, and the last two days, I dont think any of that is going to get a deal done. But they are all necessary elements of the deal." There is no timetable for talks to resume, but Tuesday is a possibility. The entire preseason slate of games was cancelled by the NHL on Thursday, and regular-season games -- scheduled to begin Oct. 11 -- could soon be called off, too. The NHL cancelled the entire 2004-05 season because of a lockout that eventually led to the collective bargaining agreement that expired this month. By working on secondary agreements now, the sides are ahead of where they were back in 2005 when a deal was finally finished. "All the stuff weve done the last three days were things we did after we had resolved the economic issues, and this one is not playing out that way," Daly said. "Well have to see how it plays out."
