So, as you may be aware of...I'm kinda getting the fuck out of here. :P

Like, legitly. Permanently. Not going on some lame spiritual journey. Stunning, I know. But I'm afraid being here is no longer healthy for me. I joined Caprecia nearly five years ago because I enjoyed writing and as this place seemed a pretty bitchin' place. I actually compared it to a serene mountain valley once, as it was relatively isolated from the craze that is NS. It was a peaceful place that, despite constant warfare, was actually pretty homely. It was occupied by pretty cool, friendly persons who weren't known for aggression or harsh feels. For the most part (and, needless to say, OOCly).

Unfortunately, this community isn't really a successor of that Caprecia. Nowadays, there's a lot of bickering and personal conflicts--things I'm not really interested in dealing with on an online community--especially given the scale. Indeed, the sheer extent of all the infighting makes me cringe and, to be frank, sad as well. It doesn't help that I'm partially responsible for this current environment, given my status as an administrator in the time leading to it.

I guess I should apologize for that--for failing to better protect the community from ill character and instead allowing it to corrupt us as it has. So...to all those who are here predominantly for the purposes of role play and writing and who are abhorred or otherwise shaken by the constant dramatics that unfold in the community: I apologize.

Of course, though my disagreement with the present environment is the main reason I'm taking my leave, it's not the only. There's also been the constant, often irrational assault and general discord upon me--both IC and OOC. Though both have usually been weak and often baseless, I'm afraid I've reached my limit of disrespect, insult, ill spirit...and lack of support. Yup, even those that may be considered my 'friends and allies' share responsibility; one simply can't fight and struggle perpetually, without at least knowing his efforts are appreciated.

Regardless, though I'm on my way out, I can't help but worry over you guys. So I'll leave you the following:

To the Role Play Ministers, current and future: bear in mind your primary mission in this community should be to ensure that role play remains fair and fun for the whole. Of course, the individual shouldn't become a cog in the machine; that's unnecessary at this scale and, honestly, disagrees with the spirit of our purpose: having fun. Of course, this doesn't mean that you should skim the rules willy-nilly, but it does mean that you should be willing to make exceptions for those with good intentions, who are not here to wow with how amazing and great they are, but to enjoy a good play with their peers. I won't give names, as that's detrimental, but it should be largely clear when someone is after a good-hearted thrill or adventure and when one's after being the very best. The latter don't deserve any treats.

Additionally, you are not serving the community by enforcing your own opinion about what is wrong or right.
  • With regards to modern-tech expansions, your guiding principles should be fairness and balance; balance--not necessarily equality. Ensuring that no IC faction gets to powerful that it can stifle others should be on your agenda, and you shouldn't be afraid of using your own state for that purpose. Needless to say, this doesn't mean that you should give yourself unfair advantages or perks that aren't available to others.
  • With regards to technology: I understand the future is scary, but you should not fear it. Progress is good, though so is moderation.
  • With regards to realism: you should strive for it where possible, though never forget this is a game. Generally, if it doesn't hurt or go against the spirit of a regulation: there's no need to kill it. With regards to conflict with players concerning what should be (concerning regional culture, climate, and the like), bear in mind that you really have no right to tell them what to do with their country. But you do have say in where they put it. ;)
  • With regards to conflict with a player: it's best to avert or deescalate where possible, which is facilitated greatly by having a good relationship with someone. It's also wise to pick your battles, as some things honestly aren't worth the relationship hits. Things that are largely internal to their nation can be overlooked (though this doesn't mean that you can't apply soft pressure), while things that influence their neighbors can largely be left to the locals to address (and shaming! don't be afraid to light-heartedly shame someone when they're being kinda silly). The spirit of the regulations should be held, however. In such cases, one should remain reasonable; purging their nation over, say, claiming some crazy technology, or having an oversized military, having some sort of weird, arguably unrealistic government is a bit much; however, you do have vocal weight, and can nudge others to take certain action--including this magical "ignoring" thing--while some effects are entirely up to your discretion. You can outright deny expansions (and other things) and it is within your authority to set their population and GDPpc growth values (theirs are actually just suggestions, hehehehehehe~~~~~~~~).

Most importantly, don't be deathly afraid of losing reelection. If you think a certain course of action is ideal, push and argue it. Unless the majority tell you it's a horrible idea; then it probably is. However, you shouldn't be afraid to promote checks on things. If your idea is actually in the better interests of the community, you'd likely get some good voices on your side.

Oh, and did you see that bit about serving the community up there? Yeah, that's what you're doing. Thanks, but remember: you got there to do what's best for us, not for anything else.

To the Prime Minister and others politically inclined: we are a role play community oriented towards a fictional world. Unfortunately for you, the majority aren't very fond of politicking and legislating. Even the governance of role play have fallen out of "let's all write pretend legalese" to "let's trust that guy to treat us right--we can replace him if he doesn't". Honestly, legislative role play should be largely left out of community beyond in-MT game world stuff, as it's honestly unnecessary to write a several-thousand word paper on how we work, and who does what, and to what extent. It's also unnecessary to write pretend laws or have rigid processes.

A say in who gamemasters our fun is honestly all we really need. Maybe someone to coordinate our relationships with other communities.

To the masses: keep on funning, yo~~

Also, always remember you influence who runs the game. You shouldn't hesitate to remove him if he's being corrupt, unfair or simply won't listen. Mind, I'm not saying this with regards to the current ones, but it'd be good to remind you of just how powerful you really are. Ultimately, you are the community. Even the administrators can be overthrown by simply going somewhere else.

To the Administrators: much like the Role Play Ministers, I'd like to remind you that you serve the community. Aside from Dom, who created this forum and established the basis for this community, none of you really have a claim to be on there.

Consequently, I discourage you from enforcing your personal opinion, or enforcing "order" or "justice" simply because you are hurt or offended. That's not why you were propped up.

I was propped up because I was the only spirit active crazy enough to take the reigns at the time, though kept on because I turned out to be pretty good for it all, while King was propped up because politics. Ikarius got in because I'm actually a pretty fair person...and lazy. And Flo should be propped up because he's a level-headed, good person. I reckon those are traits that won't hurt to have in an administrator.

Flo should not be propped up because he's Caprecian...because he's not. He wears the mask, but identifies as Oracian...which is honestly true. As one of the last true Caprecians from ages gone, I don't really recognize him as a fellow Caprecian. He is a bro though, and I'd say he'd be a good voice to have among the administrators, on equal footing.

To the Cartographer: though you might work on the maps, keep in mind they're not yours. You inherited the master file from me, who inherited it from Lucava, who developed them alongside the original Caprecians who built them on Dom's idea. Arguably, the map that is Caprecia belongs to Dom, though he might cede them to the community. Most certainly, no one else has any claim to the thing called Caprecia.

Nysa's a bit more...awkward. King made the original map--based on what people provided him--though I drafted the modern incarnation (which is fairly different from the original). Though, I'll say the map of Nysa belongs to whoever King says it does. Except Cordillera. She's touchy.

Why do I mention this? Just a feeling. Just a feeling....

There's honestly more things I could and probably should say, but they're not coming to me. Aside from...

...to those who may have felt I was secretly talking about them in a negative light: that feeling is probably not without reason. So I probably mean this for you (and mostly, only you):

With Love

Hehehehehehehe. Seriously though...thanks for making this place unhealthy. :)

Oddly enough, as of typing this, I don't really feel any resentment. Weird.

Them and that aside, danks for reading, yo~~ Don't burn down four years of my life now, hear?

See ya bro, it was nice RPing with you for the past two years. And I'll reiterate what Flo said, don't cut completely as most of us think of you as a friend. And thanks for the advice.

I know right, Reph? Goodness knows what's up but even if I feel there's something special between us. <3

Shame the conditions.

For the rest of ye (and of course you too, Reph!), feelings are appreciated. I think most of you already know my Skype, but feel free to proliferate it among the community, reasonably.

Sorry to see you going Lines. I probably contributed to why your leaving with my constant harping on about Lanlania, and I'd like to apologise for that. I honestly wasn't serious half the time but I don't think I ever reasonably conveyed that point so my sincere apologies.
