The Asanahil Sentinel Presidential Elections Results! Assunta D'angelo sweeps election! ![]() August 15h, 2028: ASANAHIL- The Federal Electoral Commission has released the results of the 2028 Presidential Election, the first ever which required the constitutional runoff if no candidate received at least 45% in the first round, the first where there were four major candidates instead of three, and the first which resulted in a female president! Of the four candidates, only D'angelo managed to get at least 30% in the first round,it is even more surprising considering she is an independent. Of the other candidates, Alfonso Winslow(Arcturian Ultrasocialist Meritocrats), Lenard Aldebrandi(National Republican Front) were knocked out in the first round, both receiving 14.6% and 26.4%). Only Dario Adami(People's Regions Party) managed to get to the second round by receiving 27.6% of the vote, when D'angelo received 31.4%. This shocked political analysts who expected D'angelo to get third place in the first round, with a much closer vote deciding the finalists. Then in the two week campaign for the runoff, D'angelo continued to run her trademark grassroots campaign, running on a platform of moderation in regards to the recent signs of confederalism in regards to handing more powers to the regions, she wants to pull back on the recent cuts to the little federal spending. She also calls for expanding Athad's diplomatic relations across Nysa and possibly even Oracia as whole, contrary to her predeceases. Meanwhile, Adami ran a traditional campaign for the PRP, wanting more cutbacks to useless government spending, such as that on energy programs which he said the Regions should decide. He also called for more powers to the regions, and to limit the federal government to its bare bones. He also called for political donations to be unbanned. So that the federal government doesn't have to give equal amounts of money to candidates. In the end, the independent D'angelo won with 67.9% of the vote, receiving support from the AUM, the less radical parts of the NRF, and smaller parties. Surprising she even stole moderate support from the PRP. What does this exactly mean for Athad? It means that there may be clashes between the Presidency and the Federal Assembly. Who due to elections this go around, has the People's House run by the NRF and the moderate PRP who are known to generally form congressional pacts, which means any domestic legislation will need to be worked out between two separate factions. Meanwhile, in the Council of Regions, the AUM have managed to maintain a surprising gain by taking five seats of the available eight. Though this still leaves a rather hung Council of Regions. Though with the CoR just being used for foreign affairs issues, President D'angelo will have no problem bypassing them if needed. An other issue may include the beginning of a new political era. Now we don't usually use the word era liberally when in the political context. At the moment, D'angelo once she is sworn in the 16th is just going into a term, it make take years or another election for her to be effectively an era. But history does show a repeat in this case, with Logan Ogden who only sixty years ago went into the presidency as a political upstart during the early PRP days, his one ten year term in office, resulted in a political shift to more power to the Regions, and ultraconservative fiscal ideas on fiscal policy. We can certainly call that term in office, an era. Unfortunately, Logan was diagnosed with Cancer near the end of his term, and died after two years of treatment. Let us see if D'anglo can turn back the clock on the policies of the current President Conway Gibson, who much like Adami is on the radical side of the PRP. The public has been generally unhappy with his terms in office, with current polls showing him at 67% disapproval, and 30% approval. His main support comes from the greatly fiscal conservative north, particularly in Nurio. Hopefully, D'anglo keeps her style of political standing so that she can have her Era, one fitting for the first female President. In Other News

The Asanahil Sentinel President D'angelo announces economic and political reforms ![]() Autumber 22nd, 2028: ASANAHIL- President D'angelo after only a few months in office has released her list of economic and reforms to the Federal Assembly earlier today. The point of these reforms was to reinvigorate the Athadian political scene and to bring a new light to its culture. Some of the reforms seem to be attempting to redo decades of cultural and political standings. Currently, the People's Regions Party is completely opposed to the reforms stating that they would backtrack all the work done by the great PRP presidents from years before. And considering the reforms at work, it is not a surprise. One of the proposed reforms which would require a constitutional amendment would make the Federal Assembly unicameral, but keeping the name the Federal Assembly with the system being of a mixed member proportional. In which each region would be given twenty Assemblymen, as well as a still debated amount of nationally elected Assemblymen to give a better idea of the wants of the people. This Federal Assembly would combine the Council of Regions and the People's House detailed powers, as well as work to redraw the Regional borders. Another reform is well within the President's executive powers, and has been released as Executive Decree 257. It seeks to end Athad's secretive banking laws, and establish a more open space for police to work with, as to stop potential crime, as well as to stop nations who have blacklisted Athad for offshore accounts. Many banks have protested the move as unconstitutional and will be looking to challenge the action in court, the PRP has joined in the action. Another action is to start the planning for a MagLev rail to connect northern and southern Athad, with perhaps a possible line to connect with the PU. This comes as the forefront in a transportation revolution within the government, who have new plans for highways, as well as renovation of airports. The Department of Transportation has announced as well it may expand flight and locations as well as looking into cruise line options. Finally, the President announced her support for the creation of new taxes for the corporate and income realms in order to help fund welfare programs she proposes. President D'angelo stated that she wished to change the way Athad treated its citizens, stating the current form was unconstitutional because the government was not providing for the basic welfare on its citizens. Though getting popular and party support for such a measure may prove difficult but many parties are open to the option if it is done right. Many see this in order to stop the world's view that Athad is a tax haven right before the President is set to have a diplomatic meeting with Pacium Union leaders. Truly the President is attempting to set an era In Other News
