![]() RONERIL AND HAE: A TALE OF TWO POLITICIANS ANCIENT GRUDGES RESURRECT AS THE LIBERALS RIDE AGAIN Updated September 8, 326, at 10:42pm Detectatian Standard Time AYAND, AYAND--At Titan Hall on Ayand's eastern shore, the celebration for President Roneril and his party plays out as if on repeat from three years ago. He remains President, his party has made massive gains in the Vox; too bad the Liberal-Progressives are back with a vengeance. At first look, the election today is almost insignificant in terms of winners and losers--like the previous election of 323, the FPP remains on top in both houses of the Vox, and Andrew Roneril once again is giving toasts tonight in celebration of his victory. However, this election may prove to be one of the most significant in recent years, as, under the surface, several trends seem to be emerging, as lead DBN political analyst Mariah Bales pointed out during the live election coverage. One of the key trends Bales noted is that of the "broadest churches," the parties with the widest appeal, starting to consolidate power separate from the more fringe parties. "Whereas," she said, "in previous Voces, there was not only a wide multitude of parties represented, but a much more even distribution of seats, this latest Vox has not only slightly whittled down the number of parties, but left the more extreme ones with only one or two seats. However, the most notable trend that Bales noted was what she called, "A return to probably the oldest political rivalry in Detectatia's history," referring to the rise of the Liberal-Progressives (formerly the Liberal Party), overshadowing the Moderates as the Free People's Party's primary rival. This same rivalry echoes Detectatia's early political history, when the Free People's Party was established in RE 22, two years after the official founding of the Liberal Party of Detectatia, officially making Detectatia a multiparty state. Today, this rivalry appears to be rekindled, with President Roneril at the helm of the FPP, and the fiery Yolanda Hae leading the Liberal-Progressives. Although the two have always maintained a characteristic cordiality, both have exchanged oftentimes strong, politically charged words: with Hae condemning Roneril's lifting of regulatory barriers for businesses, and Roneril even going so far as to call the LP's positions on stronger social safety nets and universal healthcare as "nothing but dangerous for the disadvantaged of Detectatia." However, even greater than typical domestic issues, Bales suggested that this surge in support for not only the LP, but left-wing parties in general, likely directly stems from Detectatia's entry into the Commonwealth of Nations as an observer state--a move which drastically, according to Bales, cost Roneril a significant amount of political capital, the treaty ratified by the Senate by only a margin of two votes, 322-318-0. Indeed, the vitriol between members of the LP and FPP seemed to reach a fevered pitch during that debate, with Yolanda Hae in the Senate herself calling ratification, "the death rattle of Detectatia, and the birth cry of Detectatia, Inc." Clearly, the divisiveness in the legislative chamber is paralleled on the national stage. However, although Roneril will occupy the Presidential Manor for another three years, how this newly born rivalry will turn out in the long run is anyone's guess. A visual breakdown of the results can be seen below: ![]() IN OTHER NEWS:
