Blackford Independence Party calls for Independence Referendum
The Blackford Independence Party, the junior member of a Regional Executive Coalition with the Conservatives has called for there to be an referendum on Blackford Independence. The Conservatives and Social Democrats have ruled out such a referendum in this parliament and argues that a "clear mandate" would be required for an Independence Referendum.
17:42 - 2nd January 2028
BLACKFORD INDEPENDENCE - It's a ripple, something the Conservatives were fearing when they agreed to form a Coalition Executive with the Blackford Independence Party. The Conservatives agreed to push for Devolution legislation, which they secured from the national leadership in the form of the Devolution Act. They thought this would feed the BIP's hunger however it clearly wasn't enough.
The Blackford Independence Party today announced that it would demand an Independence referendum from their Coalition partners or they would re-consider their position of being a junior Coalition member. The Conservatives said the threat from the BIP was "ill-timed" and "dangerous for the political stability of Blackford" however they said there would be no Independence Referendum until the Blackford Independence Party secured a mandate for such either through a victory in the regional elections or a victory in the national elections.
The Social Democrats echoed the response of the Conservatives, stating they would not support a referendum to "break apart Aurentina" until the BIP secured an "overwhelming mandate" from the people of Blackford however they warned that any referendum would require legislation from both the National Parliament and Regional Assembly.
However, both the Conservatives and Social Democrats reaffirmed their commitment to pass the Devolution Act allowing each Regional Assembly to request powers to be devolved and the National Parliament would respond either in favour or in the negative.
The Blackford Independence Party has said it will continue to push for an Independence Referendum if the Conservatives fail to deliver one, however remains true to the threat that it would not support the Conservatives in their regional executive in Blackford.

Government: "All Prebate issues now resolved"
The Government today stated that any previous issues with the distribution of prebates had been resolved, therefore anyone who did not receive their prebate money should receive it either in the next twenty four or forty eight hours..
15:23 - 3rd January 2028
FAIRTAX - The Government has seemingly solved the issues regarding the distribution of prebates and in fast speed too, however if all parties were behind the tax would it have been a much different story? I don't think so, if the Social Democrats had been backing the proposals we would instead be seeing a slower fix, intent in preventing long term problems. However, with no unanimous support both the Conservatives and Social Democrats attempt to capitalise on anything related to the FairTax regardless of whether it is good or bad.
The Treasury insists all technical issues have been fixed therefore prebates should be distributed out soon, however why were there these problems so early on? The answer is in the time given to prepare, the legislation for the FairTax was only approved in November which was far later than the government had been hoping for and they had already committed to the 2028 starting date. However the government did have some preparation before the legislation passed, it knew that it would be but parliamentary time prevented swift passage for the legislation.
Another question that many seem to ask is whether the Social Democrats will embrace the FairTax? This is after it emerged the Leader of the Opposition's family claimed the prebate which sounds more like the Leader of the Opposition has accepted the tax rather than will continue to fight it. The Social Democrats have maintained that there policy is "in opposition to the UnFairTax" and that party policy is to repeal the legislation on the first day of government, however is this realistic for the Social Democrats who may find that if the FairTax is accepted by citizens as implementation becomes more solid?
Arguably not, eventually opposition to the proposal will ebb away and instead objections will become proposals for reform of the FairTax. However, until this point the government believes it instead needs to be tough on itself ensuring the FairTax is applied fairly, prebates are on time and there are no cases where Business Exemption certificates are wasted.

Votes at 16 Act passes Preliminary Vote - All MP's and Senators to have free votes on legislation
The biggest obstacle to this legislation becoming law was if the Conservatives insisted on a whipped vote and that they would vote against the proposal, however the government has instead accepted a free vote deal allowing all MP's and Senators to vote as their conscience dictates, and today at preliminary vote MP's from across the spectrum voted in favour of franchising sixteen year olds.
16:12 - 4th January 2028
VOTES AT 16 - The Social Democrat proposal, as one of it's three 2027 Opposition proposals put forward the Votes at 16 Act which would reduce the voting age from 18 to 16. The Government has agreed for a free vote the entire way through parliament, thus the obstruction of this bill seems less likely than before as it seems enough Conservatives will support the legislation through the People's Chamber at least.
The legislation would reduce the voting age for sixteen for all "elections, initiatives, Referendums or votes otherwise pertaining" thus could even be interpreted in the broadest of definitions to allow sixteen year olds to vote in Trade Union ballots which could be seen by some as an attempt by the Social Democrats to open up trade unions to the young. Prosperitas has stated that it will back the legislation, the Greens have also backed the proposals alongside the Liberals thus the only other major party to back the proposals formally is the Conservatives.
In the preliminary vote, despite the free vote, multiple Conservative cabinet members voted against the proposal whilst the Prime Minister abstained on the issue noting that he saw "significant errors" but instead would push for amendments rather than voting down the legislation. However, this is a risky gamble as amendments are first considered in the Senate and need to be passed there and the Conservatives do not have a majority in the Senate thus will need support from other parties to amend the legislation.
Prosperitas and the Liberals seem likely allies for amendments, however if the Conservatives are seen to be aiming to block the legislation down the pipeline it could see both parties refusing to back Conservative amendments which would be a major slap to the face for the Conservatives who would see any chance of amending disappearing.
Now that the government has allowed a free vote, it seems that we may well see some Social Democrat proposals become law, it does not seem likely that the legislation will come in time for the Basic Income Guarantee Referendum next month which has led to calls from some campaign groups to "drop the referendum" until the legislation has been approved.
The Government has stated that the Basic Income Guarantee Referendum will happen on the 5th February and that any "changes to the timetable" would need to be approved by Parliament and the Electoral Commission.

National Health Service (Efficiency & Reform) Act slammed by Social Democrats as "road to Privatization"
The National Health Service (Efficiency & Reform) Act was proposed by the Government as a "integral part of the phase two". The proposals expand the role of Not for profit healthcare providers in treatment and expands the availability of NHS-covered treatments to private providers opting to create a arch-network of healthcare provider including the NHS, Independence Providers, Private Providers and Not-for Profit providers working cohesively.
13:23 - 5th January 2028
HEALTHCARE REFORM - The Social Democrats branded the National Health Service (Efficiency & Reform) Act as the "painful road to Privatization", in what is a direct attack on the government it stated that Prosperitas was "damaging it's credibility" whilst the Conservatives were doing the "same old thing" whilst pledging to prevent the legislation.
Whilst the Leader of the Opposition acknowledged that the proposals were not privatization of the NHS however stated that it was a "slippery slope" thus whilst the merits of the legislation could be admired she would rather prevent the legislation so further proposals could not be tabled. She refers to a clause towards the end of the legislation which states that "The Government may introduce further legislation pertaining to the management of the Health Network and the National Health Service under this legislation".
The claims stem from comments from the Secretary of State for Health in December 2027 where he suggested that the management company which runs the NHS could have 51% of it's shares sold to the public and other investors as a method of easing the government's funding obligations. The Social Democrats called for the Secretary of State for Health to be sacked at the time for his comments, this legislation "could" open the gates to a future government embarking upon a mission that past governments have grappled with for the last twenty years... reducing the cost of Healthcare yet delivering better care.
Prosperitas confirmed it would support the legislation through Parliament saying it was "important" that "healthcare providers across the spectrum can collaborate together to deliver the most effective and affordable care". The proposals would allow patients to receive treatment in other providers and have it paid for in half by the NHS and half by the government. The Conservatives argue that the plan would cut the costs of bureaucracy and focus on the needs of the patient not the "overwhelming opposition of irresponsible political parties" in another jibe at the Social Democrats.
The Social Democrats proposed an alternative to the legislation, essentially a watered down version of the government's proposal removing the subsidies and the clause pertaining to the government being free to introduce further legislation to expand on the proposal. The Government responded stating that the proposals from the Social Democrats were "more expensive, not effective and not in the public interest", the Social Democrats have said they will push for a whole text amendment that would amend the whole legislation to the proposal that the Social Democrats have favoured.

Repeal: Healthcare Access Charge Act fails in Preliminary Vote
Another Social Democrat proposal has fallen at the first hurdle, the legislation to repeal the Healthcare charges introduced by the government last year was unilaterally blocked by the Conservatives once again like their earlier proposal to repeal the FairTax.
18:47 - 6th January 2028
HEALTHCARE ACCESS CHARGES - The Social Democrats proposed a repeal to the Healthcare Access Charges Act at the end of 2027, it seemed unlikely that the legislation would pass seeing as the legislation was a Conservative Manifesto commitment and Prosperitas had agreed to back the legislation in the Coalition Agreement. So, has the symbolic repeal proposal been sent another symbolic defeat in the Preliminary Vote?
It is usually accepted that every bill will receive a preliminary reading, in fact has been convention for a long time, yet in two votes we can see the deep polarization between the Conservatives and Social Democrats as the Conservatives unilaterally have blocked two Social Democrat proposals from even clearing the preliminary vote thus halting them dead in their tracks.
The Conservatives are able to do this as legislation is determined to begin in the People's Chamber, here the Conservatives have a majority on their own thus when enforcing a whip can block/pass legislation at their own pleasure. If legislation began in the Senate, where the Conservatives do not hold a majority then Social Democrat legislation would certainly go further into the parliamentary process.
The Conservatives are keen to capitalise on the Anti-Social Democrat feeling following the 2026 Election, whilst this feeling has slowly been disappearing it is the Conservatives who have consistently led the polls since the election. Some Commentators suggest this has been due to the Conservatives being able to put down the Social Democrats in Parliament, in statements and in the polls. Despite some policies being unpopular at the beginning, pssst Healthcare Charges, they have recovered the ground lost and the Social Democrats have looked to be flailing around.
It seems that the Social Democrats are behind in the race, they desperately want to be seriously considered to overturn the already existent Conservative Majority that is holding steady and riding positive economic news whilst also being able to point out they are doing exactly what they said they would by cutting taxes, before tearing up the old rules, ensuring budget surpluses and reducing the debt.
Some speculate that the Social Democrats will need to accept a new political reality, that has been a shift to the right in economic matters. Tougher spending rules and a rising public mood for minimal taxation. To do this however, the Social Democrats would need to drop it's opposition to many proposals that it has already said it will oppose at the election such as the FairTax, NHS expansion with other providers and cutting spending across the board to reduce the debt.
The Conservatives seem keen to further antagonise the Social Democrats, Prosperitas less so which has been respecting established conventions of allowing a successful preliminary vote. If the Conservatives seem bent on blocking the Social Democrats at every turn, they could block the Votes at 16 Bill at the final stages in the People's Chamber which would see a clean sweep.
One thing is for certain, the Conservatives seem to already be seen as de-coupling with Prosperitas in terms of their political statements yet united on delivering agreed policies. The Conservatives are on the warpath, there can be no doubt that the next election will be the Conservative's to lose and they will be looking to take majorities in both places in Parliament with the Social Democrats helpless to stop them.

Government confirms Budget date as 14th February
In 2027 the budget was delivered on the 25th February, this time around the government is delivering the budget over a week earlier. However, is there reasoning for this or is there some big announcments?.
18:47 - 6th January 2028
BUDGET - The Chancellor of the Exchequer confirmed today that the budget would be delivered on the 14th February, over a week earlier than 2027. However, will we be seeing big announcements? We don't think so, however new legislation already introduced may be further expanded upon and we expect an announcement on predicted FairTax Revenue thus the government budget for 2028.
The Government is staying fairly silent on the budget, however today the Prime Minister and Chancellor confirmed that they were confident that a second surplus could be delivered and would be bigger than the previous surplus in 2028. The Chancellor stated at the election that he wanted to see roughly a $15 Billion surplus in 2027, instead the government delivered an $18 Billion surplus he also further stated he wanted to see a surplus of roughly $30 billion in 2028 and 2029 to help reduce the debt.
We will also receive a fixed revenue number from the government, although early indications suggest that the proposal may not be revenue neutral in 2028 thus would mean deeper cuts to public expenditure than expected. The Social Democrats criticised the notion saying that the "FairTax clearly wouldn't deliver" and that the government had "lied" when it told the public that the proposal would be revenue-neutral.
We're also predicting economic growth figures to be speculated for 2028 and a figure for debt as % of GDP by the end of the year, the government will be looking to ensure the Social Democrats do not get any step ahead and has stated that figures would not be leaked to the media as has happened in the past.

Citizen's Rights and Responsibilities Charter overwhelmingly approved in final vote to become law
The Citizen's Rights and Responsibilities Charter was passed into law today as the Senate overwhelmingly approved it as the Prime Minister, Deputy-Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition hail the legislation as a "important step" for the future of Aurentina.
18:28 - 13th January 2028
CITZIENS RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES - The Senate approved the charter today, a step which all major parties have supported which is seen by some as the first step towards a written constitution by some activists however seems to more be a method of entrenching previous expectations and commitments into law.
The proposal which outlines many rights and responsibilities of citizens that can be expected was supported by the Conservatives, Prosperitas and the Social Democrats. A joint statement from the Prime Minister, Deputy-Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition hailed the legislation as a "fundamental piece of legislation, protecting citizens and expecting citizens to be responsible for themselves where they can do so" but also said it was an "important step" to push the Aurentine message of balancing rights and responsibilities.
The Conservatives released a separate statement saying the legislation was a "perfect example" of showing the world that "people are as responsible as government" and that the legislation "committed lawmakers into protecting their citizens at every opportunity.
The rights & freedoms not excluding others granted by the Charter include:
- Right to Life & Bodily Sovereignty
- Freedom of Conscience & Religion

Some of the responsibilities expected of all by citizens by the Charter include:
- Obeying the Law, Individuals and governments are regulated by laws and not by arbitrary actions. No person or group is above the law.
- Taking responsibility for oneself and one's family, Getting a job, taking care of ones family and working hard in keeping with ones abilities are important Aurentine values. Work contributes to personal dignity and self-respect, and to Aurentinas prosperity.

Social Democrats to propose legislation establishing a "powerful" Supreme Court alongside a "Constitution Act"
The Social Democrats announced plans today that one of their 2028 Opposition proposals would be to establish a Supreme Court able to interpret legislation, strike down legislation that is incompatible with the "norms of Aurentine society" and to be the most powerful court able to overrule decisions of lower courts.
14:56 - 16th January 2028
SUPREME COURT - The Social Democrats are seemingly attempting to woo Prosperitas supporters and cause Coalition dissent in their latest policy proposal, establishing a Supreme Court with strong powers. This was also called for by Prosperitas last year and was quickly rejected by the Conservatives, the proposal from the Social Democrats are seemingly an almost exact replica of the call from Prosperitas.
If the legislation was proposed, it would be possible for the Conservatives to block the proposals in the preliminary vote despite Prosperitas support for the legislation (which is not yet guaranteed) and could cause a row between the Conservatives and Prosperitas over the legislation. The Social Democrats, may well be proposing more symbolic legislation as a way of embarrassing the Coalition primarily Prosperitas by suggesting it is being controlled by the Conservatives and selling out on it's principles.
The Social Democrat Proposal includes:
- The Supreme Court would be composed of Five Justices nominated by an Independent Commission and approved by the People's Chamber and Senate with supermajorities
- Justices would be granted a life term and would be able to resign if they wished
- Justices would be required to swear an oath of impartiality before beginning to hear every case, with any Justices with a connection to the case in any form must declare and remove themselves from the bench
- The Supreme Court would be required to judge the values and morals of legislation passed by Parliament and strike down legislation if it is incompatible with previous legislation
- The Supreme Court will be able to interpret legislation in it's own manner and clarify the law and it's implications and directions
Some have questioned the power of this court however if there is constitution for it to judge to be the cornerstone, the response to that is another proposal from the Social Democrats in the form of a Constitution Act which would tag several pieces of legislation together to form the Constitution of Aurentina yet would not be in the form of a written constitution and would be subject to supermajority amendment.
Conservatives have pledged to oppose the Supreme Court proposals, however the leadership did insist it would consider the merits of a Constitution Act and would be willing to support the proposals dependant on what legislation would be tagged together to form a basis/foundation of a Constitution.

Conservatives indicate "conditional support" on Constitution Act
The Conservatives have had a more toned down response to a proposal from the Social Democrats to propose a Constitution Act, instead of slamming the proposal as irresponsible it has instead said it would wholly consider the proposal and suggest it's own visions of what a Constitution Act could mean.
15:21 - 20th January 2028
CONSTITUTION - The Conservatives today released a statement on the Social Democrat proposal on a Constitution Act, it was guarded and it was concise in suggesting that the Conservatives could give their support to a proposal for a Constitution Act that "tagged" legislation as the foundation of the Constitution in essence elevating pieces of existing legislation to a constitutional status.
However, the Conservatives stated that there had to be clear principles enshrined in the referendum that would be key to gaining their support. These were:
- Parliamentary Sovereignty
- The ability of governments to establish their policies free from threats from other branches of government
- An Independent non-partisan Judiciary
- The Rights of Taxpayers to expect fair taxation
- Established Conventions being retained and not re-written
It's been suggested to be a clear swipe at the proposals from the Social Democrats (and Prosperitas) for their to be a Supreme Court with powers to overturn legislation that is incompatible with the law. However, for a Supreme Court to work effectively there needs to be some law that is further above the others thus the natural solution is constitutional law.
Enshrining Parliamentary Sovereignty into any Constitution Act would prevent the establishment of such a powerful court, it would ensure parliament retains all powers but can devolve them at will. Thus meaning a Supreme Court would, if it was given these powers, be mindful that Parliament will have the power to remove those powers from them if there was a clash.
On Conventions, there has been criticism to this demand considering the Conservatives have been battering down the convention of giving all pieces of legislation a preliminary reading, yet they have unilaterally blocked two pieces of Social Democrat legislation at preliminary vote. The Social Democrats responded urging a full discussion between the Conservatives, Prosperitas and the Social Democrats on the proposals but also including regional executives in the discussions and ensuring the needs of regions were heard in this constitutional settlement.
There would also need to be a clear process for "tagging legislation" to the Constitution Act, would a simple majority suffice? or would there need to be full in-depth reviews of "tagged legislation". The Social Democrats have opted for supermajorities determining what legislation would be tagged to the Constitution Act however have not stated how legislation could (or even if it would be able to) untag legislation from the Constitution Act and how this would work.
The Social Democrats and Prosperitas will be fully aware for their proposal of a Supreme Court to hold any teeth, this Constitution Act proposal needs support from the Conservatives. However the Conservatives are aware that the Constitution Act would leave the door open for a Supreme Court unless it's key demands were met, some could suggest they fear a slippery slope towards parliament's power being eroded.
If discussions take place, there will be certain pieces of legislation that all sides will agree should be tagged to the Constitution Act. A clear example could be the Citizen's Rights & Responsibilities Charter passed by the Senate only a few days ago, whilst there could be areas of contention such as Regional Executives may wish for the Devolution Act (legislation currently going through parliament but looking likely to pass) to be tagged to the Constitution Act as it would solidify their right to exist and their right to claim powers from the National Parliament as they wish without fear of repeal.
What is clear is that the Conservatives are integral to whether this proposal will become a reality, Prosperitas nor the Social Democrats can outvote them in the People's Chamber. If the Conservatives do not feel their demands are satisfied they could block the legislation at preliminary vote and open a row with their Coalition partners over the proposal, however if their demands are met in full the Prosperitas and seemingly Social Democrat policy of a Supreme Court with teeth will never become a reality.
It's going to be a delicate balancing act, we can expect their to be tight negotiations with the Conservatives and Prosperitas/Social Democrats being determined to get what they want but also keen not to alienate the other side in fear of prompting further reactions. Such as the legislation being blocked by the Conservatives, or Prosperitas and the Social Democrats committing to include the proposal in their manifesto's.
Smaller parties have also demanded a role, the Greens stating that a Constitution Act would affect "all stakeholders" thus "all stakeholders must be consulted" including minor parties, the judicial branch, citizens and anyone else affected by the proposal of a Constitution Act. No2TheState has opposed the proposal, saying it would only "entrench the right of the state to abuse citizens".
One thing is for certain, if this proposal gets off the ground there will either be a reaction of unity amongst parties on the proposal or division that could damage the reputation of their own parties but also their own competence to establish a basic constitutional law.
Kudos to the Social Democrats, they've used a "symbolic" proposal to force a public discussion and it seems the Conservatives are not willing to ignore it.

Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary urge "rational discussion" on Abere Crisis
The Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary today made clear the position of Aurentina on the escalating crisis in Abere, the government stated that it would not directly intervene but would be inclined to facilitate talks between all major parties in an independent area from the conflict in Aurentina..
21:38 - 1st February 2028
ABERE CONFLICT - Sit down and talk, this was the view of the Aurentine government today on the Abere crisis which is has seen escalating tensions between Abere, Goldecia, Carpathia and Akitsu. The Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary released a joint statement calling for all sides to "consider the merits of a peaceful solution" and should "go to the table and talk through the issues".
The statement has been widely seen by many commentators as a cautious step for the Prime Minister, he does not want Aurentina to be dragged into any conflict and certainly does not want to damage relations to some of it's partners. In his statement the Prime Minister addressed a wide variety of issues on the topic, however the key points can be found below:
- All hostile actions and planned hostilities should be halted pending a meeting between all the parties
- The Abėrian Government should give assurances that the pastors and other people being held by the state will not be harmed in any form and shall have access to their respective government's advisors
- All Parties must be willing to commit to a ceasefire to last the duration of any meetings
- All Parties must respect the other's right to pass their own domestic policy, but should not attempt to directly change it by force.
- All Parties must not escalate tensions deliberately and instead should promote co-operation and negotiation to be the basis of all future interactions with other parties
The Prime Minister also offered Aurentina to host any meeting between the parties, if the key points mentioned above, were fulfilled or committed to by all sides. He said that any conflict would be "disastrous" for everybody involved and that there is a "peaceful solution where the captives are returned unharmed to their respective states without demand or prerequisite".

Prime Minister urges Abere and Carpathia to drop demands to talks - Also suggests Aurentie Forces secure the Citizens
The Prime Minister spoke again early this morning on the escalating crisis in Abere, he spoke of the attempts of his government to prevent fighting and to settle the crisis peacefully and made further calls to Abere and Carpathia in an attempt to stifle the crisis.
06:23 - 2nd February 2028
ABERE CONFLICT - The Prime Minister stated that both Goldecia and Akitsu had agreed to attending the talks pending evidence from Abere that it's citizens were unharmed and would be safe for the duration of any talks. Abere had also shown signs that they would be willing to attend negotiations however demanded that all military operations against him be stopped for talks to happen, the Carpathian Government has ruled out pausing their military action and insists that Abere must surrender, the government must step down, far-right parties be dissolved, internationally supervised elections and a full international commission be held before they sit down and talk.
The Prime Minister said the "willingness of Goldecia and Akitsu to want to stop fighting" was "highly commendable" and stated that the Aurentine Government would do "all it can" to continue try negotiate the release of the citizens with Abere regardless of military conflict with either side. The Prime Minister then spoke about the importance of his proposed talks, he stated that the talks were "not to end the conflict primarily" and were to "secure the release of citizens" and that he would not engage in any military action on the topic.
The five key conditions he set out for all parties to accept for talks were the following:
- All hostile actions and planned hostilities should be halted pending a meeting between all the parties
- The Abėrian Government should give assurances that the pastors and other people being held by the state will not be harmed in any form and shall have access to their respective government's advisors
- All Parties must be willing to commit to a ceasefire to last the duration of any meetings
- All Parties must respect the other's right to pass their own domestic policy, but should not attempt to directly change it by force.
- All Parties must not escalate tensions deliberately and instead should promote co-operation and negotiation to be the basis of all future interactions with other parties
The Prime Minister however also spoke of a different proposal, he suggested that Aurentine Forces could enter Abere with full permission from the government to secure the citizens and return them to their respective nations and assurances that the Forces would not be harmed upon arrival and that breaking the assurance of non-harm could lead to a stronger response from the Government.
He said "the primary concern of Aurentina, is the safety of the captured citizens. Yet to some of our partners this does not seem to be a priority, we cannot be seen as complacent and must act right now to free the captured citizens and return them to their families", the Prime Minister has said that he will "further monitor the situation" but has ruled out direct military intervention.

"Escalating Tensions make Negotiations less likely" - Prime Minister slams Abere and Carpathia over their reluctance to negotiate
The Prime Minister released a further statement saying that the state of negotiations was "negative" as long as Abere and Carpathia refused to talk without the other's full withdrawal and stated that Aurentine patience was wearing thin.
12:36 - 2nd February 2028
ABERE CONFLICT - The Prime Minister called out both Abere and Carpathia over "dragging their heels" on negotiations to secure the release of Goldecian and Akitian citizens from Abee. "Constant demands from each side, merely escalates tensions and makes the likelihood of a peaceful solution less likely, the government believes that the offer of negotiations aren't a permanent invitation and refusal for all sides to sit down and talk is only to their own detriment"
The Prime Minister further went to speak about Abere and how Aurentina would respond if it continued to refuse to negotiate:
"The Aurentine Government, specifically the Secretary of Foreign Affairs has consistently stayed in contact with Abere over this topic and has maintained neutral relations over the conversation. However, we must also be aware that if negotiations are not held that an alternative solution needs to be devised.
We believe that the key to this crisis is in the hands of Abere directly, we implore them to release the citizens immediately or the government will consider further actions.
Aurentina will not directly get involved in the fighting, however Aurentina is prepared to help in the Blockade and the No-Fly-Zone if Abere does not sit down at the table and talk"
He also praised Akitsu and Goldecia for their "patience" on "this highly important matter" and has stated that we are consistently on their side of the argument that the "detaining of foreign citizens for spreading their faith is not a crime and that Abere is wrong to detain them"

Train Companies begin 10 Year Franchises
Today, Aurentine Rail, Virgin Rail, Unitrans and Monroe National began their ten year franchises over their respective railway's that they successfully won bids for last year, the Government has hailed the process as "fair and competitive" stating that it would release further franchises soon and are considering speeding up the timetable for franchising.
18:21 - 2nd February 2028
RAILWAY FRANCHISING - The Government hailed it as "transformative" for Aurentina's Railways and that the new franchises would be the "epicentre of a fundamental shift in Aurentine Politics" as the benefits of privatization can be "fully explored" and "appreciated" whilst the old days of "government interference" was over.
Last year, Aurentine Rail (the Public-Operator established by legislation), Virgin Rail (A Goldecian company), Unitran (Carpathian company) and Monroe National won different franchise contracts in a bidding process that was widely claimed to have been successful.
The Government said that there had been little issues on the first day, and looked forward to considering the case for speeding up the franchise timetable if possible.

BREAKING NEWS: Aurentina to assist with No-Fly Zone and issue Sanctions
The Aurentine Government has ordered that aircraft carriers set sail for International Waters to assist in the No-Fly Zone.
13:24 - 5th February 2028
ABERE CRISIS - It was clear the Prime Minister wanted to avoid this, that he did not want for Aurentina to have to resort to such lengths however by sending Aircraft carriers to assist with the No-Fly Zone he maintains that he is remaining neutral on the matter.
"My priority still remains the captured citizens, who have committed no crime and are being illegally detained by Abere. Aurentina will work with our partners to try further secure the release of the foreign citizens, we must stress that if any harm comes to the citizens then Aurentina will consider deeper sanctions than the ones we are currently announcing today.
Aurentina still backs a peaceful solution, if Abere and Carpathia alongside all other parties are willing to back talks then Aurentina will be willing to host these talks however as far as we are concerned the current offer of negotiations are null and void.
I call on the International Community to keep persisting for the release of the captive citizens instead of focusing on the regime, the regime is an afterthought the current priority should be the lives of those captive citizens and that is what Aurentina shall push for"
Alongside the mission of the Aircraft Carriers, the Government is also issuing economic sanctions to Abere which "will not be lifted, until there is a significant re-consideration on the stance of the Abere Regime" these have included:
- Targeted freezes on any Abere assets in Aurentina
- Travel Bans over Aurentine airspace or territory for individuals close to the Regime
- Trade Embargos on armaments
- Reducing view of Abere from Neutral to Negative (ooc: not really a sanction lol)
It is understood that the government has sent two aircraft carriers, these being AUS Magnificent and AUS Enterprise to carry over the aircraft used to operate the No-Fly Zone. The Government has estimated that it will take roughly two weeks for both carriers to arrive to be within range.

Government response "absolutely correct" to Abere Crisis says Leader of the Opposition
The Leader of the Opposition says she has left her remarks to now to allow the government to try get negotiations without jeopardising the process.
16:23- 7th February 2028
ABERE CRISIS - The Social Democrats offered their support to the government's response to the crisis in Abere, saying that their response was "absolutely correct" and that they would support the government if legislation regarding the crisis has to come before Parliament.
Emily Marsden, the leader of the Opposition said that the government had worked "tirelessly" to engage with the international community and had even kept the Opposition informed on events. She further said that the government had been the "voice of reason in a whirlwind of irrational provocations on both sides" and that the government was correct to continue to offer negotiations even after it seemed clear that war was inevitable.
In her statement to the People's Chamber, which was hosting a debate on the Abere Crisis and Aurentina's role, she said that she had been "hesitant" to issue her response to the crisis so soon as to give the government the "best possible shot" to get negotiations to come into fruition.
"The Government continued to keep the Social Democrats informed on the developments as soon as they knew, that is commendable and I hope that the bi-partisanship we show here today can continue further into domestic politics. We must stand together to protect the rights of all people, we must protect the citizens of Aurentina and our friends without delay and we must continue to work internationally for peace."
On the development where the government has confirmed it will enforce a No-Fly Zone over Abere in hope to ensure the crisis is contained and that the loss of life will be reduced the Leader of the Opposition said the government was taking "sensible steps in taking limited action" and she would also reject sending troops on the ground like the Government.
