Conservatives form Coalition with Prosperitas after election Victory!

Posted Image
NEW PM: HAROLD HAWTHORNE

22:04 - 5th December 2026

ELECTIONS 2026 - The thrilling conclusion to the 2026 Parliamentary elections came tonight after Conservative Party sources leaked the news that a Coalition deal had been done with Prosperitas after an election delivered the Conservatives with a majority of four in the People's Chamber but short of a majority by 3 seats in the Senate.

Conservative Party Leader Harold Hawthorne had been leading the opinion polls as the most likely Prime Minister since 2024 when it was revealed that senior Social Democrat officials had been abusing their posts with allegations including acceptance of bribes, manipulating the cabinet, replacing state advisors with friends and family and abuse of expenses.

The Conservative Party won a total of 305 seats out of the 700 directly elected seats available, alongside the additional winner's bonus in the People's Chamber giving him 405 and the right to govern Aurentina as the next Prime Minister. However, falling short of the fabled 38% of the vote required to guarantee a majority in the Senate the Conservatives managed to poll 34.2% of the vote and gaining 35 seats in the Senate as a result.

The Junior Partner of this Coalition, Prosperitas has been in Coalition with the Social Democrats for 6 years came third place in the elections after losing 64 seats but remains above the 100 seat mark with just 116 seats in the People's Chamber. Compared to the Conservatives who gained 100 seats in the election, the result for Prosperitas was bleak and the first time that being a Junior Member of a Coalition resulted in a loss of seats.

Prosperitas Leader, and newly tipped Deputy-Prime Minister, Catherine Nixon commented on the leaks earlier to Aurentina Today. She stated that it was true that Prosperitas would be forming with a Coalition with the Conservatives, when asked by one of our reporters whether it would be easy to govern with the Conservatives after their new partner spent six years criticising their record she responded calmly stating "We've been in Coalition with the Conservatives before between 2014 and 2020, we have been able to work with them before and we shall be able to do so again".

When we asked the Prosperitas Leader if she had managed to secure some key pledges of the Prosperitas Manifesto into the Coalition agreement, she was optimistic and said that "we have managed to guarantee major parts of our manifesto are implemented in government, ranging from taxation to our biggest promise a Basic Income Guarantee"

Conservative Sources denied that a Basic Income Guarantee was a set-in-stone policy, and instead argued that the Basic Income Guarantee would be the result of a Referendum

Both the Conservative Party and Prosperitas unveiled the Coalition Agreement simultaneously just half an hour ago which has confirmed that there is to be a Referendum on the Basic Income Guarantee and some more controversial policies including a Same-Sex Marriage Bill, Hospital and GP Charges, Privatisation of the Rail Network and a wide ranging consultation into the narcotic laws of Aurentina.

Acting Leader of the Social Democrats, Richard Milton MP has released a press statement saying that the Coalition Agreement was a "one way street down to further inequality" and that whilst the Social Democrats accepted defeat at the Parliamentary Elections they would "oppose the Coalition as much as possible.

Marsden: "Social Democrats fundamentally oppose UnFairTax"

Posted Image
Social Democrats will oppose any implementation of the Conservative's "FairTax"

09:12 - 17th March 2027

TAX REFORM & BASIC INCOME GUARANTEE - Emily Marsden has rarely gone into a confrontational position, she often likes to debate and reason yet today she released a scathing attack on the plans by the Conservative Party for the implementation of a FairTax.

She never called it the FairTax, instead she opted for the UnFairTax and highlighted many key areas that would make the tax unfair, including rebates for the most wealthy, less tax paid overall for the wealthy and business being exempt from tax whilst ordinary people had to pay.

She said that one good policy of Prosperitas was the Basic Income Guarantee, the implementation of the "UnFairTax" would be a stain on the achievements of Prosperitas in government and would face electoral disaster. She re-committed her support to the Basic Income Guarantee, however warned that party relations between Prosperitas and the Social Democrats could reach a "historical low" if they allowed the Conservatives to embark in the "biggest tax cut for the wealthy" since the foundation of Aurentina.

Yesterday, Prosperitas said they were considering the offer from the Conservatives to allow the amendments to the Basic Income Guarantee Referendum on the condition that they backed the FairTax. Emily Marsden made a clear move today, she would not be voting for the FairTax however when asked by our reporters if she would "repeal the tax" if it became law.

Here she was far more mute, she said that the "Social Democrats would not commit to abolishing the tax if it was passed" but maintained she would argue against the tax if it was ever introduced to Parliament.

Some Commentators speculate that the Prime Minister could use his final Joint Session of Parliament to rush the FairTax through.

There is no clear evidence behind this.

Prosperitas to back FairTax following new deal with Conservatives

Posted Image
Elizabeth Nixon announced that Prosperitas would support the FairTax for a new agreement with the Conservatives over the Basic Income Guarantee

14:21 - 19th March 2027

TAX REFORM & BASIC INCOME GUARANTEE - "The biggest tax reform in Aurentine History" is how Elizabeth Nixon described the FairTax today as she announced that Prosperitas would back the FairTax and the abolition of all over taxes in Aurentina as a result.

Social Democrats said that the Deputy-Prime Minister had "lost the confidence of the people" over any economic and tax issues, they further pledged to fight back and oppose the FairTax at every stage of Parliament. The Conservatives have managed to agree a new deal with Prosperitas to deliver the FairTax including allowing amendments to the government sponsored Basic Income Guarantee Referendum Act alongside new reforms to voting including by computer alongside physical paper voting.

Elizabeth Nixon also identified the key criterion that the Conservatives have agreed upon which were Lower Taxes for Lower Income families as a result of the change, the revenue shall be neutral to currently what is raised, no change on the size of government, legal protections for whistleblowers who identify businesses that use their exemptions illegally, legal obligations for all businesses that sell products to collect the tax and send it on to the treasury, sufficient checks on the business exemptions via the Department of Business and the Treausry and a proper auditing system for tax returns for business.

One area that the Conservatives did not concede is preventing the rebate being given to anyone earning above $1 Million insisting that the prebate/rebate must be equally given to all citizens, regardless of income to ensure the FairTax is truly fair.

Ex-Social Democrat Kanan pleads Guilty to Corruption Charges

Posted Image
Protests had been gaining traction as legal cases against high-ranking Social Democrats restart following election period

19:31 - 21st March 2027

CORRUPTION SCANDAL 2024 - Andrew Kainan, former Social Democrat MP and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs between 2020-2024 has pleaded guilty to the charges of corruption in high office, fraud and theft of taxpayers money.

The Former MP pleaded guilty when asked to re-enter his plea following the case originally being postponed due to national elections, the Judge presiding over the case said that "the defendants guilt, whilst being noticed leaves me in a complicated situation".

The law states that any Member of Government charged and found guilty of a corruption offence must be banned from political activities for fifteen years, alongside a possible jail term.

After consideration for three hours, the Judge sentenced Andrew Kainan to three years in prison alongside a life ban on political activities including joining a party, standing as an MP, being a candidate for the Senate and standing for regional assemblies.

There has been no comment from the Social Democrats, who try to distance themselves from the cases however pollsters report that the news of corruption being confirmed could lead to drop in their opinion poll ratings right before the regional assembly elections.

FairTax to be proposed after Regional Assembly Elections

Posted Image
The Prime Minister confirmed that FairTax Legislation would be introduced after the Regional Assembly Elections

19:31 - 22nd March 2027

FAIRTAX - The Prime Minister today confirmed speculation that the FairTax would be introduced after the regional assembly elections, however he also stated that he would not call a Joint Session for the FairTax legislation instead he argued that "delicate tax reforms, need delicate debate" and that pushing for a Joint Session would send out the "wrong message".

So, what is the message the Prime Minister is trying to send out? It's clearly a core tax message, that Conservatives will deliver cuts to your tax and make you pay less for the same standard of services. However, he does not want to be seen as rushing through complicated tax reforms especially when the Social Democrats do not back the legislation which could make the parties more antagonistic than ever before.

Social Democrats have branded it the UnFairTax and has said it would support it in Parliament but has fallen short of saying they'd repeal it if it was law when they were next in government. It's a sign of reluctance to commit, it's a backstep for Emily Marsden who has usually had a clear message of what she would repeal and what she would not.

Some are concerned that Marsden will come out against the legislation and uproot the whole tax code to try replace it back with the old system, which would take extensive law writing. However, others are concerned that Marsden will make do with the tax and stick with the "UnFairTax" she criticised as the source of revenue making her look contradictory.

If passed, the Conservatives will have scored major points on the Social Democrats. Something they need to do if they want the gap between them in the polls to widen again following months of narrowing.

Hawthorne: "Only Conservatives will deliver efficient Regional Government"

Posted Image
The Prime Minister was speaking in the Social Democrat heartland of Falldell to spread his election message

12:22 - 23rd March 2027

REGIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2027 - "Conservatives in government, actually do something" said the Prime Minister as he spoke passionately to the city folk of Reon in Falldell trying to spread his message to an area who are usually sceptical of the Conservatives.

It's seen as crucial that the Conservatives win the Regional Assembly Elections, and if it wishes to do so they need to claim back multiple regional assemblies. With Social Democrats holding many with big majorities, despite the polls placing the Conservatives on top the incumbency effect could cheat the Conservatives out of winning the elections.

Conservative sources indicate they want to win the elections clearly with majorities and Conservative AM's across the country in every region, even in areas where they have never won before. If they achieve this, the Conservatives will be showing their strength across the nation.

Pointing to his national efforts to cut the debt, he said that the Conservatives "cared for the nation" more than the Social Democrats could ever claim to be. Whilst Social Democrats grip the region, it is thought that the Conservatives are marching through Falldell.

The question is, how many assemblies will the Conservatives win?

AND THE WINNER IS.... Unknown

Posted Image
Official Results suggest that the election results give no clear winner

12:12 - 1st March 2027

REGIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2027 - Traditionally, the party with the most Assemblies controlled has the most Assembly Members and are thus the winners of the Regional Assembly elections. In 2027 however, this has not been the case thus making a lot of confusion regarding who really won this election.

In 2023 the Social Democrats swept the Regional Assembly elections, in 2027 they have been pummelled yet have somehow been described by commentators as the winners of the election. In 2023, the Social Democrats held control of nine regional assemblies whilst in 2027 they now hold five. This compares to the 2023 results where the Conservatives held control of zero regional assemblies now they control four.

Clearly, the Social Democrats have control of more regional assemblies thus they won right?

No as the Conservatives won the most Assembly Members with 321 AM's across Aurentina in 2027 compared to 285 won by the Social Democrats. However, when you compare this to 2023 where the Social Democrats won 386 AM's and when the Conservatives won 182 AM's there has clearly been a significant win for the Conservatives here.

Overall, the Social Democrats had the biggest net loss in this election compared to the Conservatives who had the biggest net gain... So the Conservatives won right?

It's hard to say who really won this election, however when we consider that out of the three Assembly's that were not won by any major party. Two of them had the Conservative Party as the biggest party being short by anything between one and five seats where as the other had both the Social Democrats and Conservatives tied with thirty seats each.

So when the Prime Minister meets with the Council of Ministers, which is all the First Ministers of the Regions, he is likely to be surrounded by seven Conservative AM's and five Social Democrat AM's which could hint that it is possible that the Conservatives won this election.

Prime Minister claims Victory in Regional Assembly Elections - Leader of Opposition disputes the claim

Official Results suggest that the election results give no clear winner

17:25 - 2nd April 2027

REGIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2027 - The Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition have both been out arguing that they had won the regional assembly elections.

The Prime Minister pointed to the fact that the Conservatives had won the most Assembly Members and had the biggest net gain alongside the biggest net gain in Regional Assembly control, whilst the Leader of the Opposition stated that the Social Democrats had won a clear mandate from the most regional assemblies compared to the less regional assemblies from the Conservatives.

YouSay released an exclusive poll of 1000 respondents, of which 63% said the Conservatives won compared to 23% who believed that the Social Democrats had won.

Government formally proposes FairTax via Tax Code of Aurentina (2027) Act

Posted Image
The new legislation not only introduces a FairTax, but also prohibits other forms of tax from being collected as well as the abolition of other taxes.

16:47 - 3rd April 2027

FAIRTAX - The Government has begun on introducing the FairTax, however it is doing so through formally recognising the tax system in a whole piece of legislation being titled as the Tax Code of Aurentina (2027) Act. The New Code goes through the abolition of old taxes, how the new FairTax is to be collected and the new details of the FairTax.

The Prime Minister hailed the new Tax Code proposal as a "decision in the public interest" and would put Aurentina down the path of "low tax and responsible spending" for decades to come. The Leader of the Opposition said the new tax code was inherently "unfair" and that not taxing income was a present for the wealthy.

The Tax Code proposal has set the FairTax at a level of 25%, so for every Aurentine Dollar an additional 25 pennies shall be added on top and collected in tax. It also details the process of which revenue shall be collected, it states that the regional executives will be legally obliged to collect the taxes from retailers before sending the full amount to the National Treasury.

Furthermore it goes into details regarding the exemption certificates for businesses, it states that businesses must become officially registered with the Department of Business to be given a Business Exemption Certificate valid for five years which would allow all businesses who have kept audits on their spending will have their full tax payments returned yearly.

The legislation also explains how families will register for the prebate, it states that applications for the next yearly prebate would open in the September of the previous year and close at the beginning of September giving time for the government to process all the claims and have the first payment given for the 1st January.

Households will be given the option whether to claim their prebate all at once, or split up over the year on a monthly basis. The government argued this would provide "flexibility for different family structures" but also stated that also household adults would be required to sign a legally binding document that the details were correct and that failure to notify changes or lying could earn them a jail sentence, fine or even the loss of their tax prebate for five years.

Members of Households will be need to be registered with the government, and keep their family records up to date but could also face auditing at any stage with the government reviewing their purchases and ensure that they are not using business exemptions.

The legislation is a crucial step forward, now that the legislation has been introduced in the Chamber it is clear there will not be a Joint Session but when will the FairTax take hold?

Conservatives on top as Social Democrats slide

Posted Image
The YouSay Monthly Opinion Poll has put the Conservatives on top again as Social Democrat confidence plummets after Corruption Trial

16:49 - 5th April 2027

OPINION POLLS - The Conservatives have retained their lead as confidence in the Social Democrats has been shook following the Guilty Plea of former MP Andrew Kainan to corruption charges.

The Polls have indicated little shift between the Social Democrats and the Conservatives with the Conservatives having 40% compared to 39% in March. The Social Democrats have claimed 27% compared to the 33% they had a month ago, Prosperitas has seen their poll fortunes reverse with a slight gain from 14% to 15% this month.

Meanwhile, the Green Party has bounced from 12% to 19% in the space of a month arguably the real winners of this poll whilst the Liberal Party remains stuck on 1% this month.

With the FairTax, Same-Sex Marriage legislation to come into play alongside many other pieces of legislation in the process this month it will certainly be important to see how the Conservatives look in the next poll.

Independent MP proposes Compulsory Duck Ownership Act

Posted Image
Jacob Rogg's Compulsory Duck Ownership Act would see all families being required to own a Duck

12:16 - 6th April 2027

PARLIAMENT - Well, if you were given the opportunity to introduce legislation to the Parliament of the Nation what would you propose? Would you cut taxes? Introduce tougher punishments against criminals? Reform the Health Service?

Well the Independent MP Jacob Rogg has proposed legislation that would make it compulsory for each family to own a Duck, the legislation would guarantee that Ducks had the same "rights as any human" and would be considered a full dependant instead of a pet.

He admitted that he did not believe the legislation would ever become law, however the Prime Minister seemed to find it funny enough to have the government back the legislation through the preliminary vote. However, the Prime Minister did say that "at the second vote, we shall be voting the legislation down... one joke a Parliament I say".

The Independent MP got granted permission to enter the legislation as part of the Other Proposals scheme in Parliament, which allows other groupings to propose legislation if they wish to do so based on the previous election results. As the only Independent MP, Rogg was able to propose one piece of legislation on any topic he wanted.

The Leader of the Opposition also backed the legislation through the preliminary vote as the chamber cheered after the result was announced, however she also agreed with the Prime Minister that at second vote she would order the Social Democrats to "vote against it" as it would have been a "good waste of parliamentary time".

Nobody can deny, if you propose a joke bill at least you'll make the chamber agree on something unanimously.

Basic Income Guarantee Referendum passed to the Senate

Posted Image
The Basic Income Guarantee Referendum legislation has officially been handed over to the Senate for consideration from Senators - Committee of Amendment awaits

13:12 - 7th April 2027

BASIC INCOME GUARANTEE - The People's Chamber has officially passed the Basic Income Guarantee Referendum Act to the Senate for it's consideration, where it is expected to be grilled although the temperature is nowhere near as hot as it was.

The Conservatives originally intended to give the Basic Income Guarantee a bumpy ride through the Senate or even halt it, however with the fate of their cherished FairTax being dependant on this legislation it is expected that opposition to the proposal will be more mute.

However, this will not stop any criticism as there are many Conservatives who are strongly opposed to the idea of a Basic Income let alone the referendum and will try stop it's passage as much as possible. The Conservatives do have one weapon on their side, the First Amendment to the Referendum Act which was amongst the first legislative proposals passed by Parliament which ensures that all referendums require a turnout of 60% to be binding, whilst anything else is considered advisory.

They'll be hoping there is either a clear No Vote with over 60% turnout or that there is a weak Yes vote with under 60% which is more likely? Nobody knows?

However, the Legislation will be returning to the People's Chamber after the Deputy-Prime Minister announced amendments would be proposed including giving a specific date for the referendum as well as amending the question in line with the recommendations of the Electoral Commission.

The biggest achievement of the Conservatives would be the repeal of all existing taxes and the implementation of the FairTax, however their worst (in the views of many Conservatives) could be the introduction of a Basic Income paid for by the state.

Prime Minister: "FairTax will be most significant Tax Reform in Aurentine History"

Posted Image
The Prime Minister has been speaking about the FairTax at a speech in New Santos today

16:23- 8th April 2027

FAIRTAX - "The Most significant Tax Reform in Aurentine History" is how the Prime Minister described the FairTax today in a speech to business groups today.

He argued that there would not only be benefits for citizens but also for business, who would see their own tax burden tumble on the repeal of multiple taxes including the Corporation Tax. He issued guidance on the pricing of products, saying that the core price of goods (Excluding the FairTax) should not change or fall in the light of taxes being removed as a consideration for pricing. He also said that the FairTax would be added on top of the core price, and would be included in final price yet displayed separately on the receipt to ensure the tax is transparent on pricing.

When asked if he believed the Social Democrats would repeal the Tax if it won the next election he responded by saying that "the Social Democrats won't win, we'll fight on the FairTax and receive a mandate from the people to keep it as a permanent source of government revenue".

He did however say that the legislation had "major constitutional clauses" held within to prevent abuse of the tax, including that the repeal of the tax would require the support of a supermajority of 600 MP's and 100 Senators backing it's repeal in a vote.

However, he said that there would be no repeal as long as the Conservatives were a major force in Aurentine Politics stating that the Social Democrats, Green Party and even Prosperitas need to understand that the people want a "low-taxing, responsible spender government" and that this meant that the size of government needed to be "reduced" to help reduce the debt.

When asked if his flagship charges on Healthcare, and the Community Charge would be pulled from Parliament if the FairTax was approved the Prime Minister was defiant saying that "the charges, are not taxes therefore the FairTax would not affect and not be repealed" and that the measures were "crucial" in the task of cutting the size of government and help pay down the debt.

Regional Executives Formed - Conservatives take the most First Minister's

Posted Image
The Elections produced a complex result last month, with the Conservatives winning the most seats nationally but coming second on the amount of assemblies controlled.

11:48- 9th April 2027

REGIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2027 - We've had final confirmation of the new composition of the regional executives, the equivalent of a government for each individual region. There are many Coalitions however one of the most notable is the Conservative-Blackford Independence Party Coalition in Blackford, the first time the BIP has ever been a member of the regional executive and will be looking to capitalise on their gains through delivering some of their key policies.

The First Minister's and the Prime Minister, which will make up the Council of Ministers. Which meets monthly to discuss matters relating to the constitutional settlement between the national government and regional executives as well as national issues including the economy, healthcare and education.

In the new Council of Ministers, the Conservatives have a majority of the ministers even without the Prime Minister thus we can expect the meetings to be dominated by the economy and taxation primarily. Decisions in the Council of Ministers require the approval of 2/3 of the First Ministers, whilst the Prime Minister chairs.

In the new make up of the Council of Ministers the Conservatives are just one seat short of holding a 2/3 Majority composed of the First Ministers, however including the Prosperitas-Conservative Regional Executive which shall be sending a Prosperitas First Minister is likely to back the Conservatives.

You can see the full list of Regional Executives and the Council of Ministers below:
