Conservatives form Coalition with Prosperitas after election Victory!
 NEW PM: HAROLD HAWTHORNE
22:04 - 5th December 2026
ELECTIONS 2026 - The thrilling conclusion to the 2026 Parliamentary elections came tonight after Conservative Party sources leaked the news that a Coalition deal had been done with Prosperitas after an election delivered the Conservatives with a majority of four in the People's Chamber but short of a majority by 3 seats in the Senate.
Conservative Party Leader Harold Hawthorne had been leading the opinion polls as the most likely Prime Minister since 2024 when it was revealed that senior Social Democrat officials had been abusing their posts with allegations including acceptance of bribes, manipulating the cabinet, replacing state advisors with friends and family and abuse of expenses.
The Conservative Party won a total of 305 seats out of the 700 directly elected seats available, alongside the additional winner's bonus in the People's Chamber giving him 405 and the right to govern Aurentina as the next Prime Minister. However, falling short of the fabled 38% of the vote required to guarantee a majority in the Senate the Conservatives managed to poll 34.2% of the vote and gaining 35 seats in the Senate as a result.
The Junior Partner of this Coalition, Prosperitas has been in Coalition with the Social Democrats for 6 years came third place in the elections after losing 64 seats but remains above the 100 seat mark with just 116 seats in the People's Chamber. Compared to the Conservatives who gained 100 seats in the election, the result for Prosperitas was bleak and the first time that being a Junior Member of a Coalition resulted in a loss of seats.
Prosperitas Leader, and newly tipped Deputy-Prime Minister, Catherine Nixon commented on the leaks earlier to Aurentina Today. She stated that it was true that Prosperitas would be forming with a Coalition with the Conservatives, when asked by one of our reporters whether it would be easy to govern with the Conservatives after their new partner spent six years criticising their record she responded calmly stating "We've been in Coalition with the Conservatives before between 2014 and 2020, we have been able to work with them before and we shall be able to do so again".
When we asked the Prosperitas Leader if she had managed to secure some key pledges of the Prosperitas Manifesto into the Coalition agreement, she was optimistic and said that "we have managed to guarantee major parts of our manifesto are implemented in government, ranging from taxation to our biggest promise a Basic Income Guarantee"
Conservative Sources denied that a Basic Income Guarantee was a set-in-stone policy, and instead argued that the Basic Income Guarantee would be the result of a Referendum
Both the Conservative Party and Prosperitas unveiled the Coalition Agreement simultaneously just half an hour ago which has confirmed that there is to be a Referendum on the Basic Income Guarantee and some more controversial policies including a Same-Sex Marriage Bill, Hospital and GP Charges, Privatisation of the Rail Network and a wide ranging consultation into the narcotic laws of Aurentina.
Acting Leader of the Social Democrats, Richard Milton MP has released a press statement saying that the Coalition Agreement was a "one way street down to further inequality" and that whilst the Social Democrats accepted defeat at the Parliamentary Elections they would "oppose the Coalition as much as possible.

Consperitas Coalition Cabinet Announced: Conservatives Dominate the Cabinet
Jaegler Street: New Cabinet announced at PM's Residence as Harold Hawthorne takes Office!
15:18 - 6th December 2026
CABINET - Newly in office, the Prime Minister Harold Hawthorne announced his first Coalition Cabinet today as he begins the work of leading Aurentina. It was widely expected that Conservatives would hold at least 3/4 of the cabinet posts available and the Prime Minister delivered on this expectation, with Prosperitas only holding three cabinet positions including Deputy-Prime Minister for the Prosperitas leader Catherine Nixon.
Hawthorne's First Cabinet
Prime Minister: Harold Hawthrone (C) Deputy-Prime Minister: Elizabeth Nixon (P) Chancellor of the Exchequer: James Reed (C) Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs: Joshua Brammer (C) Secretary of State: Aimee O'Neil (C) Secretary of State for Defence: David Campbell (C) Secretary of State for Education: Thomas Nugent (C) Secretary of State for Health: Samuel Bolton (C) Secretary of State for Energy: Thomas Goodfellow (P) Secretary of State for Work and Pensions: Matthew Baron (C) Secretary of State for Business: Laura Blackburn (C) Secretary of State for Justice: Leanne Mulley (C) Secretary of State for Environment: Andrew Bailey (C) Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sports: Katy Lenney (P) Secretary of State for Local Communities: Quentin Brown (C) Secretary of State for Transport: Andrew Mitchell Leader of the People's Chamber: Geoffrey Landgraab (C) Leader of the Senate: Paul Gardiner (C)
Prosperitas claimed the Deputy Premiership, Energy and Culture, Media and Sports all of which are claimed to be weaker roles of the cabinet. Commentators suggest that this is because in the People's Chamber the Conservatives achieved a majority, some also suggest that this is a form of punishment for Prosperitas who have sided with the Social Democrats in the two governments where they gained more cabinet seats.
On unveiling his new cabinet the Prime Minister said that his government was "committed to improving the economy, making life fairer for hard working people and ensuring that citizens know that politicians are people too". He further spoke of his government being the "guiding hand showing Aurentina the way back to it's destination after bad directions from a dodgy tour guide" in what seems to be an apparent dig at the Social Democrats who led the government for the last six years.
He prioritised tax reduction and reform, securing strong economic growth and ensuring that the era of welfare dependency ends with his government. In the Coalition Agreement announced yesterday policies indicated a tightening of welfare, significant tax reductions on Income Tax, Corporation Tax and Inheritance Tax however Prosperitas demands have clearly been met partly in economic policy with new taxes on alcohol, tobacco and junk food being levied. Each of these taxes Conservatives argued against during the election campaign, however the crown jewel of Coalition policy for Prosperitas is the Basic Income Guarantee Referendum, a key pledge at the last election, however it is clear the Conservatives have put their fingerprints on the policy with the question specifically stating funding would come from increased taxation and coalition policy on a referendum turnout clampdown questioning whether the referendum will actually deliver a Basic Income Guarantee that Prosperitas campaigned for.
Opinion polls released earlier today indicated that the public "broadly supported" the new Coalition with 55.6% of respondents stating that the Conservatives were "right to form a Coalition" however when asked if that Coalition "should have been with Prosperitas" the response was more negative with 65.2% responding saying that they did not believe that "Prosperitas should be trusted with power again".
Elizabeth Nixon, the new Deputy Prime Minister today addressed members of Prosperitas saying that the Coalition Deal was a "deal towards a Prosperous Aurentina" and that she would not allow the "Conservatives to undo the hard work of Prosperitas from the last six years" despite a majority of the tax reforms, introduced by the Social Democrats and Prosperitas during their reign, are being modified in some shape or form.
It is clear that there is a mixed response from the Coalition deal, many of those who voted Conservative were not only voting to get the Social Democrats out of office but also Prosperitas. So seeing Prosperitas back in government will not have pleased many voters, whilst some have conceded that a Coalition was needed to ensure the government could pass it's agenda through the Senate and Prosperitas was the safest partner to work with in terms of seat calculation.
The Social Democrats have been quiet today, mostly trying to recover from their devastating election defeat and formulating a response to the Coalition agreement. Although, Acting Social Democrat Leader Richard Milton MP said that he hoped the government would "succeed in making Aurentina a better place" but would prefer to see them adopt the approach of Social Democrats.
It is widely expected that Social Democrats will oppose some clear parts of the Coalition agreement, such as the compulsory work for the unemployed, the reform of key benefits into a single payment, restricting Trade Unions, cutting inheritance tax and opening up the healthcare system up to private providers.

Opinion: Who REALLY got what they wanted in the Coalition Agreement?
Who got the most out of the Coalition Agreement?
02:03 - 7th December 2026
CABINET - With the Coalition Agreement having been in the public domain for long enough for thorough analysis and we've had enough time to look at who has gained what cabinet position. It's time for me, Kiearn Wesley, to investigate the Coalition Agreement and figure out who has come out on top in the agreement.
The Economy & Taxation The Conservatives have won key ground in this area of the Coalition agreement, securing cuts on the top rate of Income Tax, Reducing Corporation Tax and introducing a deep cut in Inheritance Tax something which Prosperitas deeply opposes. However, Prosperitas has also had some victories here with their prized Basic Income Guarantee making it to policy bar a referendum of course (something likely to have been a Conservative demand) but other concessions the Conservatives have made are legislation preventing indebted citizens having to sell their homes and numerous consumption taxes.
So, my opinion is that on the Economy & Taxation is that there is NO CLEAR WINNER.
Health & Welfare The Conservatives have clearly taken this area of the Coalition agreement, from a first glance it is clear that there is very little Prosperitas policy here. Compulsory work for the unemployed, Privatisation of the Health Service, Welfare Reform and the big whopper that is the charges on Hospitals and GP visits something that in the last government Prosperitas and the Social Democrats explicitly argued against after the Conservatives first called for them. However, Prosperitas has had a foot in here with a Private Healthcare voucher scheme and a Social Home Swap Scheme for those in social housing. It's clear that Prosperitas had to give in to Conservative demands in this portion of the Coalition Agreement.
It's clear that on Healthcare & Taxation is that the CONSERVATIVES have won here.
Education & Training The Conservatives and Prosperitas have each gained ground in this portion of the Coalition Agreement, with the Conservatives getting Qualifications Reform, International Student Tuition Fee Cap expansions, funding for 25,000 apprenticeships, a more powerful Educational Standards Authority and Childcare Provision for Parents who wish to return to work sooner however Prosperitas has also achieved Ensured Nursery places, a consultation on a Minimum Curriculum, caps on domestic student tuition fees and learning deficiency tests. The result is a very mixed bag, it's hard to place a winner here.
However, I would say that this is a SLIGHT CONSERVATIVE victory on Education & Training.
Environmental Issues, Energy & Research Prosperitas have the upper hand on Environmental Issues, Energy & Research with them managing to negotiate a State Sciences Institute funding, Micro Generation Grants, Support for Low Income Families with energy bills, Garden City Consultations and a Sustainability Charge for Parks. The Conservatives however have managed to get the abolition of the Responsible Electricity Charge which was the brainchild of the Social Democrats at the last election and which they campaigned hardly against during the election campaign.
Without a doubt, I would argue that this is a PROSPERITAS victory.
Citizenship & Immigration Conservatives have certainly demanded concessions from Prosperitas, and they've received them here with Compulsory Aurentine Culture Seminars for Immigrants, tougher background checks, an Investment Visa, the creation of an Aurentine Border Agency and the beefed up Citizenship Tests. However, Prosperitas has managed to push some of it's policies into the agreement with the "Road to Citizenship", Charter of Citizens Rights and Responsibilities and the Basic Citizens Savers Account. It's hard to determine a winner here, even when considering all the policies.
Therefore, I'm going to say this is a NO CLEAR WINNER
National Defence It's a clean sweep for the Conservatives here, however not due to Prosperitas not being in a strong negotiating position but more so that they agree with the policies promoted by the Conservatives on Defence.
So clearly a CONSERVATIVE victory.
Transport An area of the Coalition Agreement that has gone under the radar, despite there being some significant policies in the Coalition Agreement here including a National Monorail system, free travel passes for certain groups, a high-speed rail network and the promotion of trams and even the implementation of them in the capital. It's a tie here in terms of who has gained what however the introduction of toll roads, satellite road pricing and the privatisation of the train network gives a slight advantage to the Conservatives.
I'm going to say this is a SLIGHT CONSERVATIVE victory.
Law & Order The Conservatives have won a lot of policies here, however Prosperitas has managed to secure a few including Community Policing, LGBTI Discrimination Act and a consultation on Narcotics. Clearly, the Conservatives have clearly won some major policies including compulsory non-paid work for prisoners, police officers being granted arms, Private Prisons and Legal Aid Reform. The Conservatives are the top dog here.
Therefore, this is one of the CONSERVATIVE victory.
Constitutional & Social Order The fact this has even been placed in the Coalition Agreement is a major victory for Prosperitas, however the Conservatives have managed to dirty some of the policies here. That is with an amendment to the Referendum Act setting a minimum turnout requirement for referendums to become binding, therefore any of the referendums given to Prosperitas (including their prized Basic Income Guarantee) will require at least 60% turnout. The Conservatives will be betting on turnout failing to reach 60% and if that occurs, I can assure you that the Conservatives will not allow the result to become law and will have the seats to ensure that doesn't happen. However, Prosperitas has won a referendum on the electoral system for the People's Chamber, the recall of MP's, and the introduction of an E-Petitions system which if all implemented will certainly ruffle many Conservative's feathers.
I'm going to award this to PROSPERITAS
Decision Time So, who really won in the Coalition agreement?
On my ratings alone, we have 5/9 of areas being won by the Conservatives and 2/9 being shown to be No Clear Winner and 2/9 for Prosperitas. However, ideologically this is certainly a mixed bag with a clear mix of policies from both parties. Overall though, the Conservatives have took control of this Coalition and if anyone expected different then they clearly didn't see the victory that the Conservatives managed.
Therefore, the winner in this Coalition Agreement is the CONSERVATIVES

Prime Minister hits back at Wolfe comments
The Prime Minister of Aurentina issued a press statement today with an official response
22:36 - 8th December 2026
CARPATHIA - The Prime Minister hit back at comments from the Carpathia & Moldova Leader that the policies of the Conservative Party and thus the Government of Aurentina were "undemocratic and oppressive" following which he announced new Visa Taxes against Aurentine Immigrants into his nation.
In a full press statement released in the early hours of this morning, the Prime Minister has highlighted deep concern over the comments of Wolfe and that he has "no right to bully the people of Aurentina for democratically electing the Conservatives".
See the full Press Statement here
Social Democrat Acting Leader Richard Milton released a smaller yet similar statement stating that "Mr Wolfe is wrong to criticise the democratic choice of Aurentine citizens" however agreeing that he was right in saying there are significant policies which are concerning in the Coalition Programme.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has not explicitly commented on the remarks, however the Secretary of Foreign Affairs Joshua Brammer said he "fully agreed with the Prime Minister" on the issue.

Parliament Begins Work: Government starts with Tax Reform
Tax the First Focus of the new Coalition Government - People's Chamber votes in favour of Income Tax Reforms in Preliminary Vote
21:01 - 10th December 2026
PARLIAMENT - Tax was the main issue of the day as Parliament re-convened today to begin work following the 2026 Parliamentary elections which saw the formation of a Conservative-Prosperitas Coalition. Following procedural beginnings, such as the notification to the Chamber of the new formation of Parliament, the governing party, the main opposition party and the selection of a speaker which saw the previous speaker Helen Bradshaw a member of the Social Democrats returning to the chair with the overwhelming support of parliament.
The Government moved to begin debate on proposed tax changes, which are scheduled to be debated and voted upon with the next couple of weeks. The first topic on the parliamentary agenda today was the reform of Income Tax including a reduction in the top rate to 40% and ensuring that no citizen who earns under $11,500 will pay any tax.
Debate in the Chamber lasted more than three hours, with countless Conservative Members rising to support the reforms. Opposition Parties were subdued, however this did not stop Opposition Members arguing against the reforms with Green MP Lucas Germain arguing that the reduction in the top rate of tax was damaging for the tax base and unfair on lower income tax bands whilst Social Democrats rose to broadly support the reforms bar the reduction of the top rate of tax to 40% which they argue should remain at 55%.
A Preliminary Vote was held on the Tax Reform, which received 540 votes in favour and 160 against. Conservatives, Prosperitas, Liberals and the Independent MP voted in favour of these reforms whilst the Social Democrats, Greens and the No2TheState MP voted against the reforms albeit all for slightly different reasons.
In the next few days, we expect a second vote and final debate following this preliminary vote but also the introduction of other key tax measures such as the cuts to Corporation and Inheritance Tax and the levying of new taxation which will require legislation.
Votes regarding Tax Reform are largely expected to pass through the Chamber and the Senate.

Income Tax Reforms approved in People's Chamber - Corporation Tax and Inheritance Tax cuts pass Preliminary and Second Votes
The Government has committed to a low tax agenda - arguing to promote stronger economic growth, greater prosperity and returning more of hardworking people's money to their pockets
02:26 - 14th December 2026
PARLIAMENT - Income Tax Reforms have passed through the People's Chamber unscathed after being swiftly voted through the second vote on the 12th December and their final vote late last night. The People's Chamber has voted in favour of the top rate of tax to be cut from 55% to 40%, with MP's arguing that the tax cuts will attract wealth into Aurentina, reduce the likelihood of tax avoidance and in the long run significantly bolster the economy.
It was the combination of Conservatives, Prosperitas, Liberals and few Social Democrats that saw the tax cuts pass through the Chamber. It is highly expected that the top rate of tax will be approved by the Senate later today for it's preliminary and second vote, due to the non-legislative nature of the proposal and is only the government requesting a change which only requires it to go through the voting processes.
Note, it is important to note that the part of Income Tax Reform that would increase the Personal Tax Allowance will require an amendment to the Tax Generation Act, which is scheduled to be put forward by the Government in the coming days.
Opposition Leader and Acting Party Leader of the Social Democrats Richard Milton MP who voted against the tax cut argued that the policy was a "tax cut for the rich and a punishment of the poor" to which the majority of his MP's voted with him on this regard, it was notable that 24 Social Democrats voted in favour of the reforms. Clearly, the Social Democrats aren't so united on the policy.
Green Party Spokesperson to the Chamber Janine Andrin who's whole party voted against the tax cuts said that the tax cuts were a "evil poisonous policy that looks set to promote inequality in Aurentina" whilst the sole No2TheState MP John Barrow voted against the policy saying in his maiden speech that "I will vote against any policy this government proposes, I will vote against any policy the opposition proposes, I do not recognise the right of this parliament to dictate to the people and neither do those people who voted me into office"
Corporation and Inheritance Tax Cut proposals were also debated last night, both managed to pass through their preliminary and second votes with big majorities with the Corporation Tax Cut receiving support from the Conservatives, Prosperitas, Liberals and some Social Democrats and the Inheritance Tax Cuts receiving support from Conservatives, Prosperitas, Liberals and only two Social Democrats.
Both of these additional proposals are likely to pass through the Senate unscathed, if so then the tax environment in Aurentina is about to change significantly in the future.

Income Tax Reforms pass through Senate - New Legislation Introduced by Government
The Government has delivered on a key Coalition Policy of reducing the top rate of income tax to 40%
18:59 - 17th December 2026
PARLIAMENT - The Coalition's Flagship Tax cut for the top rate of tax to 40% has today been approved by the Senate in a second and final vote. An alliance of Conservatives, Prosperitas, Liberals and some disgruntled Social Democrats secured the passage of the tax cuts, which have been praised by the Prime Minister as a "fair and sensible measure".
It is widely expected that cuts to Corporation Tax and Inheritance Tax will also be passed in the next week or so, however debate on the reduction of Inheritance Tax has been tense with many Social Democrats opposing the move and attempting to stall out debate to prevent voting.
Meanwhile, in the People's Chamber the Leader of the Chamber Geoffrey Landgraab introduced four new government bills from the Coalition Agreement which were all approved at preliminary voting. It is expected that the Parliamentary timetable will begin to fill as government legislation starts the process, unlike the tax reductions there is a required debate before the second vote and an additionally required debate before the final vote in both the People's Chamber and the Senate.
The four bills introduced into the People's Chamber were:
- First Amendment to the Referendum Act - To introduce the Coalition policy of referendums set to be binding if turnout is 60% and above.
- Legal Aid Reform Act - To introduce reforms to Legal Aid ensuring that low income families were able to claim full legal aid, whilst also reducing it to partial legal aid for middle-income and wealthy families. A measure expected to bring savings of roughly $50 million.
- Railways and Franchising Act - To Privatise the railways, introduce a franchising system, establish an arms-length company ran by the State to run bids and create an Independent Commission to assess all franchise bids and award contracts lasting 10 years to the winner.
- Healthcare Access Charge Act - Introducing the charges for visiting Hospitals and GP's with various exemptions and reductions for low income families, students, children and the elderly.
It is widely expected that all four bills will have few amendments added to them, however the Social Democrats have issued formal stances on all four of the proposals. The Social Democrats have stated they intend to support the Amendment to the Referendum Act and will oppose the Railways and Franchising Act and the Healthcare Access Chart Act whilst they also stated that they would remain neutral on the Legal Aid Reform Act dependant on some key amendments.
When asked about when legislation proposing a Basic Income Guarantee Referendum would be proposed, the Deputy-Prime Minister Elizabeth Nixon said that the stance of the government was that the BiG Referendum legislation would be introduced once the amendment to the Referendum Act had been approved by the People's Chamber and part way through the Senate Process.

Government formally tables the abolition of the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge
Conservatives opposed the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge in 2023 - 3 Years later they formally table for it's abolition
18:59 - 17th December 2026
PARLIAMENT - In 2023, the Social Democrats and Prosperitas fresh off the formation of their second Coalition Government proposed a range of radical left wing proposals that were flown through parliament. One of the measures deemed to be one of these proposals, by Conservatives anyway, was the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge which was a charge on businesses calculated daily, 365 days a year based on their electricity usage in that day.
Conservatives argued that the charge did not take the "economic reality" into consideration and that the government was introducing an electric tax in effect. Businesses did not respond positively to the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge with many small businesses claiming that it would damage their competitiveness and make them unable to invest any profits back into the business instead it would have to pay a charge on top of electricity bills.
Whilst it is undeniable that some businesses did shut down over the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge the effects were far less impactful than stated by the Conservatives and business lobby at the time.
So, how in 2026 only three years on have the Conservatives managed to table a motion to abolish the charge despite their junior Coalition partner Prosperitas being one of the parties that rushed to support it in 2023. It can certainly be argued that it Prosperitas is still licking it's wounds from the election where it was beaten into submission by voters for association with the Social Democrats which is why the Prosperitas leadership is hesitant to maintain support for policies of the last government and to associate themselves with Social Democrat policy.
What is interesting to investigate is the public mood regarding the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge, despite being one of the central policies of the Conservative Manifesto which the election delivered a strong showing for the Conservatives who had been out of power for six years, opinion polls actually suggest that the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge has the support of a majority of citizens.
The Government however has not ruled out charging businesses a little more for their electricity, the Coalition Agreement stated that once the Charge had been abolished it would introduce a single yearly payment instead of a payment that could change radically.
Social Democrats and the Green Party of Aurentina have reacted furiously to the move, with Social Democrats arguing that the policy still had the support of the people and the Greens arguing that the charge was a good measure for the environment and forced businesses to consider their electricity consumption, something which previous governments had failed to deliver.
It is likely that the Conservatives will get it's way on the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge, it is in the Coalition Agreement that Prosperitas signed up to that the government would get rid of it. However, could Prosperitas change it's mind last minute?
It's unlikely, if Prosperitas was to deviate from the Coalition Agreement it is highly likely the Conservatives would "punish" Prosperitas by refusing to support a referendum on the Basic Income Guarantee which is a key Prosperitas policy.
Overall, we're beginning to feel the changes that the Conservative Party promised to deliver if it won the election. The question is on the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge is, did anyone want change?

BREAKING NEWS: Aurentina Plans for Carpathian Escalation Leaked
Leaked files suggest that the government "will not respond" unless situation becomes "directly hostile towards the citizens of Aurentina"
11:26 - 20th December 2026
BREAKING NEWS - Aurentina Today, through an unnamed source has leaked what appears to be top secret government correspondence between the Office of the Prime Minister and the Foreign Office regarding recent elevation of hostilities between Aurentina and Carpathia & Moldova.
The leaked files are supposedly official government correspondence between the Office of the Prime Minister and the Foreign Office, whilst Aurentina Today cannot verify that this is official correspondence we can release the details of the correspondence.
In what appears to be a memo from the Prime Minister to the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, he states "No Diplomatic Action required, remain silent". It is unknown whether this is in relation to the original comments by Mr Wolfe or by the retort of his government following the Prime Minister's intervention in the discussion.
Further detailed documents set out what could be the government's approach to the escalation of hostility towards Aurentina, including a direct plan in the event of further restrictions.
The documents indicate that unless there is a "direct and immediate" change in circumstances then the government "will not respond" unless the situation becomes "directly hostile towards the citizens of Aurentina". Amongst the leaked documents, was an attachment regarding what the government could "realistically" do in response to further escalation.
Whilst the document explicitly rules out military action, it includes a list of various sanctions including "targeted visa withdrawals", "Increased Tariffs for trade between Aurentina and Carpathia & Moldova", "Trade Embargo's" and "local content requirements".
The Document indicates that whilst the Aurentine Government has no immediate desire to introduce it's own sanctions and restrictions it has open policy options that it could pursue if the situation was to escalate further.
The Office of the Prime Minister declined to comment on the leaked files, similarly the Foreign Office was not available for comment.

Government delivers more legislation as Corporation and Inheritance Tax cuts passed
Coalition delivers key tax reforms and brings forward new legislation including a Same-Sex Marriage Bill
09:49 - 23rd December 2026
PARLIAMENT - Corporation and Inheritance Tax cuts have been approved by the Senate before the Parliament takes a break before any national holidays. Corporation Tax has been reduced by 12% from 30% to 18% on of the lowest rates in Nysa, Inheritance Tax has also been reduced despite objections from the Social Democrats and privately some members of Prosperitas.
Whilst the tax reductions have sped through parliament, new legislative proposals have been timetabled into the schedule including reforms to Legal Aid, Railway Franchising, charges to visit Hospitals and GP's for non-emergency appointments and minor treatment and an amendment to the Referendum Act to deliver a minimum requirement of 60% turnout for referendums to become binding.
Leader of the Chamber Geoffery Landgraab however timetabled more legislation today, with several scheduled to be introduced the day Parliament returns on the 28th December 2026. The bills timetabled for introduction include:
- Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act - Legislation to introduce Same-Sex Marriage in Aurentina, the Coalition Agreement identified that votes at all stages would be free votes. Bar this information, we know little on how the bill will bring in Same-Sex Marriages and whether religious institutions will be forced to take part in the arrangements.
- Debt Protection (Citizens Protection) Act - Legislation to deliver a key economic pledge from Prosperitas that would see it be prevented that citizens are forced to sell their homes to pay down any debt, however it is also expected to include other debt measures.
- Welfare (Single Cash Benefit Payment) Act - Legislation to deliver radical reforms to how welfare and benefits are distributed in Aurentina, introducing a cap linked to average earnings and rolling key benefits into one single payment expected to include key benefits.
- Aurentine Citizenship (Road to Citizenship) Act - Another Prosperitas policy to allow for those who have shown commitment to the Aurentine way of life to become citizens, the Conservatives have included a measure to allow the government to distribute citizenship to investors who invest in key employment areas set out by the government and funding job growth in those areas.
- Recall (MP's & Public Official) Act - Constitutional reform to allow citizens to hold by-election if a petition amasses to over 20% of the MP's constituents, measures unknown regarding Public Officials however it is unlikely to be another direct removal from voters.
Government sources have stated that the new timetabled legislation was a "radical yet sensible" agenda delivering key parts of the Coalition Agreement and beginning the work that this government was elected to deliver.
Social Democrats have once again issued pre-guidance on which legislation they expect to provide support for including the Debt Protection proposal and the Recall proposal, have remained neutral regarding the Same-Sex Marriage proposal and 'Road to Citizenship' proposal however has said it will directly oppose the welfare cap and introduction of a Single Cash Benefit.
Acting Leader Richard Milton said that whilst some policies were "encouraging" there were other policies that had the potential to "destroy the values that Aurentina was built upon". Rumours have begun to circulate that when Parliament returns the process to find a new Social Democrat leader will begin, with several names being rumoured to standing.

Same-Sex Marriage Bill passes through Preliminary Vote
Conservatives, Prosperitas, Social Democrats, Liberals and Greens combine to pass the Same-Sex Marriage Bill at Preliminary Vote
09:49 - 28th December 2026
PARLIAMENT - The Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act has been passed in the preliminary vote in the People's Chamber despite fears that enough Conservatives would not back the measure in an unwhipped vote allowing MP's to vote with their conscience.
The Proposal was approved by a Coalition of Conservatives, Prosperitas, Social Democrats, Liberals and Greens despite opposition from members of all parties, 108 Conservatives (including the Prime Minister and some key cabinet members), 90 Prosperitas Members, 205 Social Democrats, 15 Liberals and 5 Greens voted in favour bringing in 423 votes in favour (a majority of 22).
It is expected that many MP's will attempt to stall the legislation through the whole term, with just under 200 Conservatives opposed to the move it is expected to have heavy amendments proposed trying to wreck the bill. However, many other members also intend to introduce amendments to "improve" the bill.
Here are some of the most notable Amendments that are being submitted for debate:
- A Wrecking Amendment stating that Same-Sex Marriage would be subject to a referendum requiring a turnout of over 80% (an unlikely feat, even in Aurentina)
- An amendment requiring religious institutions, regardless of doctrine to bless Same-Sex Marriages if approached by a couple that wishes to marry.
- An amendment to establish a legal lock preventing Religious Institutions performing Same-Sex Marriages, merely marriages performed by the State.
Whilst the proposal has passed preliminary voting, this does not mean that the Same-Sex Marriage legislation will make it to the statute books. It will have a rougher ride in the Senate where the Conservatives are short of a majority by 3 but the free vote demanded by them will allow Senators who would be opposed to the proposal to block the legislation directly in it's tracks.
What is certain is that the Same-Sex Marriage legislation will face amendments, delays, long reports considering the repercussions by MP's and Senators intending to block the legislation and heavy lobbying by the government to try get the legislation through.
It is unknown how the status of the Coalition would be affected if the Same-Sex Marriage legislation (which is a part of the Coalition agreement) failed to be put into law.

Social Democrats look to become new Party Leader!
Simon Worchester MP stood down as Leader after crushing defeat at the polls, who will replace him?
12:21 - 28th December 2026
SOCIAL DEMOCRATS LEADERSHIP - It's time again, for a main party to begin the soul searching and find a new leader to lead them to victory in the polls. It has never been more crucial for the Social Democrats to find a candidate that appeals to the old crowd of their party that believes in a more directly involved government managing and directing the economy and a candidate that appeals to the new crowd that argues for a open market with regulatory procedures.
For Social Democrats, the fate of their party will depend on the next leader with the election in 2029 being crucial to try prevent the Conservatives gaining to their already slim (but existent) majority in the People's Chamber.
The Social Democrat Leadership is a process that engages the parliamentary members and the members of the party outside Parliament, with the votes of MP's and Senators counting for 50% of the total result. The Social Democrats use an Electoral College system with 250 of the votes being awarded to MP's and Senators, note that the votes are distributed based on proportion of the vote they receive from MP's and Senators. The other 50% is decided by local party members who are all consulted on the election, their share percentages are also split to decide who get's the votes.
251 total votes are required for a candidate to become the Leader of the Social Democrats, requiring support from both the old and new guard with failure not being an option at the next election it is vital that the next Leader can gain back the trust of the people. Something which will not be an easy feat, considering the damaged relations and corruption scandals that still have legal cases in the pipeline which were stalled due to the fear of it having a political effect on the election.
So, who are the candidates to become Leader of the Opposition?
- Acting-Leader and current Deputy Leader - Richard Milton MP
- Former Secretary of State for Health - Bobby Dawlton MP
- Backbencher - Emily Marsden MP
- Former Leader of the Senate - Senator Wesley Andrews
The Bookies favourite is Bobby Dawlton MP who whilst being associated with the last government has been calling for a reformist approach to the party leadership and government calling for new policies and ideas that separate them from all other parties but do not isolate themselves as "too radical" or "too left wing".
All Candidates have called for the Social Democrats to publish an Alternative Government Agreement, showing what the Social Democrats would be doing if they had won the 2026 election. Bobby Dawlton MP has argued that there needs to be a "root and branch review of all policies" whilst Emily Marsden MP has said that new policies must be "rooted in anti-Conservatism, be uncompromising and on the left side of the spectrum".
We will not know the new leader of the Social Democrats till the 10th January 2027, with ballots due to go out soon and election debates imminent we know that the next leader will be expected to deliver a challenge to the Conservatives but also unite the party to send out a clear message that the Social Democrats will be ready for government in 2029.

Prime Minister: "The work is just beginning" - Legislation begins to pile up in Parliament
Parliament is starting to be debating bills at length from Monday-Friday
12:21 - 3rd January 2027
PARLIAMENT- The Prime Minister hailed the progress of the government's legislative programme which saw many pieces of legislation pass through their Second Vote in the People's Chamber and the Preliminary Vote for other pieces of legislation, including his Repeal of the Responsible Electricity Usage Charge.
All proposals made it through their votes largely down to the support of Prosperitas, however some pieces of legislation also received the support of the Social Democrats such as the Legal Aid Reform Act and the Debt Protection (Citizen's Protection) Act whilst some were vigorously opposed by the Social Democrats such as the welfare reforms.
Legislation that passed to the third and final vote in the People's Chamber:
- Repeal: Responsible Electricity Usage Charge Act
- Debt Protection (Citizen Protection) Act
- Welfare (Single Cash Benefit Payment) Act
Legislation that passed to the second vote in the People's Chamber:
- Aurentine Citizenship (Road to Citizenship) Act
- Recall (MP's and Public Officials) Act
- First Amendment to the Referendum Act
- Legal Aid Reform Act
- Railways & Franchising Act
- Healthcare Access Charge Act
The Prime Minister said that whilst the government agenda is ambitious, it was "correct" and the "necessary actions to bring this nation back to it's former self". The Government is expected to introduce more legislative proposals in the coming days, including rumours of Trade Union Vote Turnout restrictions, the Community Charge, the Job Commitment Bonus, Tuition Fee increases and a Grand Repeal Bill of Economic and Environmental Regulations expected to be the biggest Repeal Bill in Aurentine history with over 1000 regulations reported to be up for repeal.
The first session of Prime Minister's Questions is timetabled for the 5th January, we can expect to see the Prime Minister being asked about the Carpathian War of Words, his further legislative programme and even the state of the Social Democrats by some of his own MP's.

YouSay Opinion Poll puts Conservatives on top!
YouSay reveals it's first monthly opinion poll results - Conservatives top the poll
06:12 - 5th January 2027
OPINION POLLS- YouSay revealed it's first monthly opinion poll since the Conservatives won the 2026 Parliamentary elections, there is plenty to cheer about for the Conservatives who continue to poll the top spot a solid 8 points ahead of the Social Democrats at the crucial 38% share required for a majority in the Senate.
There will undoubtedly be calls from some Conservative backbenchers to call another election, arguing that if the Conservatives are performing as well as the polls say then not only will they secure a majority in the People's Chamber but also in the Senate.
It is unlikely however for the Prime Minister to call another election so soon, however he will be expected to explain himself at Prime Minister's Questions at midday today where we can count on Conservative members bring up the YouSay Poll.
The latest results, from the most recent round of questioning found that if a Parliamentary election was going to be held tomorrow that 38% would vote Conservative, 30% would vote Social Democrat, 18% would vote Prosperitas, 7% would vote Liberal, 5% would vote Green, 2% would vote No2TheState and 1% would vote for other parties including Independents.

Many Commentators are expecting a small bounce for the Social Democrats once a new leader has been determined, however it will be an uphill struggle for the Social Democrats to pull ahead of the Conservatives with such a wide gap between the two parties. However, Prosperitas has seen it's ratings fall in the past month whilst the Far Left Anarcho Communist Party No2TheState has barely moved despite gaining it's first MP and two Senators indicating that it's core vote could still hold up.
Note that all YouSay polls could have a 3% margin of error.
