Commission News

  • There is no news from the European Commission from the months of January and Febuary

European Court of Justice News

  • There is no news from the European Court of Justice for the month of December

Council News

  • The council has been discussing a bill proposed by the Os Corelian councillor on labour immigration. The bill calls for an organisation named the "Labour Exchange" to be set up, which will serve as a basis for controlled labour immigration. Companies can register at the Labour Exchange, where they will be offered chanced to invite foreign labourers to their home countries. The Davishirian councillor stated this bill would not be compatible with the Davishire immigration laws. The Inimician councillor has submitted concerns, such as welfare benefit issues and problems with the families of the labour immigrants, all of which have been answered by the Os Corelian representative. Two amendments were proposed, voting on them has begun on 3 March.
  • The Os Corelian chair of the European Arts Collaboration Fund has proposed councillors hold 'cultural presentations' in which they explain the culture of their nations, and enlighten the other councillors with their way of life. Councillors have responded positively to his proposal. For example, the Angletarian counncillor stated "I believe this is a great idea, and would be willing to participate with a presentation on the rich culture of Angleter." and the Inimician councillor: This is a great idea! It will certainly help nations to understand one another better. "We will definitely participate."

Other news

  • Marrakechia has announced it will hold a huge music festival. Not much is known about the festival yet, except that the well-known singer Indila will open the event.
  • In the presidential elections in Northern Caesarea, the incumbent president Diana Amat has been re-elected. Her party, the Social Democrats-Greens, went head-to-head with the Liberals. The latter got 36,2% of the vote, and the winner walked away with 63,8%.
  • The National Assembly of Nouvelle Picardie was also up for election. The largest winner was the State Socialist Party (84out of 140 seats, an 11 seat gain) at the coast of the Unaffiliated, who lost 20 seats. Cabinet members retained their positions with one exception. The Party for Prosperity and Cooperation’s Urcon Atoc, former Minister of Culture and Education, was replaced by Nayra Suri from the MPNP. Interestingly Foreign Minister Inti Amuru, also affiliated with the PPC, retained his position as did the unaffiliated Minister of Environment and Rural Affairs, Maita Quenti.
  • Also the Os Corelian cabinet has been reshuffled. The big surprise was the topping of the cabinet list by Maleeka Karpathia-Xavier who has seen a strong resurgence in support from everyone. Knowing that she had such strong support the Viscount had no choice than to offer her a big office and she is returned to her old position of Kaiserin where she is greatly experienced. The Viscount got a wish when Tomak Bazarak didn't feature on the top list leaving the rebel out of Cabinet. The big casualty has been Eldert Trilstrea who was seen as a key player for Hargadoon's visions.
  • The Emperor of Inimicus has announced he will hold a large European sports event: the EU Winter Games. These games will feature a variety of winter sports, with all European nations invited to join. The Emperor has also asked diplomatic and political delegates to be sent to Inimicus, as they will be invited to the Imperial Residence near the sports facilities. Already, several nations have applied to participate, but the Emperor is hoping for more. If no more nations have applies by the 5th of March, the games will commence.
  • Pope Aloysius has sworn in 10 Cardinals to the College. Gun-Toting Animals received its first Cardinals: Didier Lyons Bishop of Winchester and Jorge Dorado Bishop of Glockport. The Pope also announced World Youth Day 2014:
Quote:

After careful thought and due consideration I have decided to award the hosting of World Youth Day to the city of New Birmingham. Although it may have been the only formally submitted bid it is clear that the youth of Angleter are proud of their catholic beliefs and want to welcome the rest of the world's youth to share with them this common held joy, the joy of the great mystery of the Eucharist through which so much hope and joy is given. Cardinal Evans has graced me with such a wonderful invitation and I look forward to celebrating mass with the World's Youth in such glorious churches as St Gregory's and in great outdoor gatherings which will be a spectacle of faith and hope. I look forward ot making this my first official trip abroad as Pontiff

See you next month!
