Atul Unification (251-255)

Even as communism was being phased out in many areas of Nysa, three southwestern nations of Xylonia, Naron, Xavast, and Boluvia joined together to create the Xylonian Union on New Year's Day 251 which was called Incorporation Day from that moment on. What followed was a brutal war with the other four capitalist republics of Gori, Xylosia, Beria, and Jahema. The Republic of Gori fell after money changed hands, and the president retired in a luxurious mansion. Gori was renamed the Highlands and struck from the historical records. The next day, Xylosia invaded the Union, hoping to stop the unification. It found itself lacking in promised support from Jahema and Beria. Even so, they nearly kicked the Atul Union out of Gori. The Battle of Khurst sealed the fate of Xylosia as the field commander was taken out by an airstrike that was off-target. The Union invaded Xylosia swiftly, conquering the high mountains and incorporating the government into the Union. It was allowed to keep its name as a tribute to its past.

For six months, the state of war seemed to cease between the Atul Union, Beria, and Jahema as they all gathered their forces. The Atul Union struck first, hoping to finish the war early and invade Jahema. It proved to be a great miscalculation. The Atunist guerrillas defended their families from invasion by using the republic's crinkled geography, the sweltering summers, and bitter winters to its advantage. While the army failed to occupy Jahema, they got through to the coastal republic of Beria. Beria's flat geography made them easy prey for a massive attack as experienced tankers rushed to occupy cities on their way to the capital. The region surrendered easily. With Jahema's signature of the Truce Treaty in June 7, 255 which respected each other's sovereignty, communism had sealed its hold.

Rise of Communism (255-261)

Before the truce, the country was run by three Commissars, which made for messy and inefficient rule and the three rarely could organize a perfect strategy in the military and always fought over the territories they had conquered. Then Lukec Gore, a respected communist sympathizer in Atulke, proposed an office of chairman. Due to his universal appeal and power, the decision was agreed upon and Gore became the First Chairman and appointed the unpopular Versun Bayon as First Commissar. Bayon's unpopularity meant that he could not use his military and economical powers to overthrow Gore, and made a good scapegoat in Gore's term.

Jaheman War (261-270)

On July 8, 261, Commissar Gore died peacefully in his sleep and Verkin Calo was appointed Chairman. The next day, Bayon was found dead of poisoning and Calo became Commissar Chairman. In July 17, he sent three divisions into the mountains of Jahema hoping to entrap them from nearby Islamists. He also introduced initiatives to bring moderate Muslims on his side, including taking them from the warzone. In the opening months, there was little resistance, but as time went on, troops were fired upon by enemies in the mountains. The war intensified over the years, until the Atul Union finally got the Jahemans to surrender. Calo forced the children of Jahema to be scattered across the country as a means to forget their culture and their rebellious ancestors. Jahema was renamed Kush, after the Atul Kush. The last major resistance ended on New Year's Eve, 270.

Making Amends (270-272)

The Jahema war was so unpopular that Calo resigned March 13, 270. He was replaced by Mortin Galuis, who paid reparations to the Kushites and recognized Atunism. He created the first of the many Growth Plans. Under the laws created by the growth plans which tolerated capitalism, the economy began to grow slowly. Galuis legalized minor drugs, gay marriages, and created a peaceful forum with foreigners. He even reduced the amount of propaganda in textbooks and allowed some modern technology to be sold, so long as it could not access the internet. Galuis was giving a marathon speech when he had a severe stroke and had to be replaced with Ghori Vale on November 14, 272

The Union Weakens (272-285)

Under Vale, things became more corrupt and twisted in the Union. The openness of Galuis' day was gradually phased out and replaced with iron fist socialism. Galuis' reforms and open-minded take on government in people's lives never changed, however. Vale enrolled all of the nation's children in Academies, military training institutions. Ghori Vale also created mandatory military secondary schools, the Burkchas. Anyone who was in the Burkcha was in the army. Thus, he enlargened the military—and brought an end to the vast surplus at the start of the decade. A recession came into being in 281, and the republics took vastly different policies to economics. The republic of Norvia abandoned hardline communism and focused on foreign investment and tourism while Aust Costa took a more stimulus-based form. Both republics recovered swiftly, but the debate remain on which republic's economic policy is better. This led to an economic schism in the Communist party that existed to the end of the Union. Vale took measures to shore up the economy, but unexpectedly resigned on January 4, 285 due to growing schisms, and was replaced with Jorun Nars.

New Communism (285)

Jorun Nars suggested that the Atul Union join in Nysan affairs, a controversial move in the union. He had to fix a debt, while keeping large social programs in place and keeping the army strong. The move was a success, and the Atul Union immediately began to adopt more Nysan customs. The Galuisian reforms were restored, and Nars announced sweeping changes to the regional councils to give them greater autonomy. But the debt kept soaring even as taxes were raised. Jorun Nars was shot on August 26, 285.

Belin Era (285-302)

Kors Belin rose into power after the death of Jorun Nars, and kept reforming the party. He established the SRC, the Stragetic Resources Council that aimed to control the country's resources. He created elected seats in the Politburo in 294, and tried to stop Tentusyn Khayan from gaining power when Belin resigned at age 38 due to a vote of no confidence led by Baikal Nars, a social capitalist. But Khayan encouraged a large nationalist faction to vote for him. As Belin left for his house in Peshwar, Jahema, street fighting was already starting between the capitalist Internationalists and the communist Nationalists.

Second Atulke Civil War (302-308)

The union fragmented into Beria led by Baikal Nars, Jahema led by Abdul Kazari, and The Atul Union led by Tentusyn Khayan. Baikal Nars led a charge to Suyin to try and force an early victory with 'To Suyin! Charge!'. However, Kazari forced Nars back into Kolben, and for six years an unproductive stalemate ensued. The three members decided to end hostilities and focus on economic growth. The treaty was negotiated by a 44-year old Kors Belin.

Pax Atulkus (308-314)

The Atul Union was now fragmented, and only a shell of its former self. Nevertheless, it remained the center of industry and manufacture until the Kolben Boom. In the Kolben Boom, Beria's economy soon outpaced even that of the Atul Union. In the same year (310) Tentusyn Khayan died at 93. He was replaced by the incompetent Laransky Khillan, who bumbled up the Great Suyin Flood. This accident led to his eventual agreement to the Kolben Accords that fused the Atul Union to the new, democratic nation of Atulke.
