Roveren II found guilty of corruption and elections fraud, sentenced to 98 years in prison

Posted Image

Former Jandrean Prime Minister Roveren II was found guilty under a court of law today for government corruption and election fraud. Roveren faced what appeared to be evidence piling up that he was connected in the dumping of some 104,000 voting cards that were earlier recovered in the Jandrean river. Roveren II was also found guilty of inappropriately spending tax payer money when it was found through a series of receipts and invoices during a raid of his Annafield mansion that he had spent more than 2.2 million caprecs on jewelery for his wife and another 800,000 caprecs for his mistress. "This is an outrage, it's an embarrassment" commented Lilo Koroni, leader of the Caprecian Green party. "This man came in preaching fiscal conservatism and family values and we got to see what really happens when you elect a fake like this" he said. Current Prime Minister who was elected for a second term two months ago, Toby Barris, has refused to comment directly on the court case and has instead encouraged the media and members to move on and focus on the real issues facing Jandrea. We interviewed Leroy Jenkins, former adviser to Roveren and current advisor to the Barris administration, we asked him how he felt about the case and how Roveren II was in all those years he had advised him. "He was really a great man" Mr Jenkins said. "I think he was really making a positive impact on this nation, because of him we gained Atharon back, and I think... I think along with the support he gained, he also gained enemies, political enemies" Leroy said. "The entire trial is a farce I tell ya, the Judge is a second cousin of opposition leader Koroni, did you know this? Much of this evidence mounted against him has been fabricated".

Pro-Roveren supporters clash with the Jandrean Metro Police

Roveren the II is still not without his supporters given the protests against the trial that consisted of about an estimated 95,000 Jandrean citizens. In a poll set up by the Chronicle last week, it was found that 34% of the Jandrean population still held strong support for Mr Roveren, while another 17% were unsure. The nation is indeed divided over this trial and many are becoming skeptical of the current governments increased friendliness with the Democratic Union, in particular, the Commonwealth. Regardless of this Roveren has lost his bid for freedom today and he will be locked up for the rest of his life. The Jandrean Chronicle was unable to confirm where Roveren II will be locked up however rumors persist that he may be handed over to the Lanlanians.

Jandrea beefs up it's airforce

Posted Image

The head honchos of the J.A.D (Jandrean Airforce Division) had announced sweeping changes to the directive of the division as well as a pledge to beef up the airforce by about 150% within the next 5 years. Part of this new move to beef up the military is to begin mass production of Jandreas new 5th generation fighter craft, the Skyhawk. The Military plans to produce at least 94 of these new generation fighters at c1.5 billion a piece. When questioned at a Jandrean Congressional hearing in regards to JAD's request for increased tax payer funds, top airforce generals sighted what they viewed as a growing threat of the unknown in the Minor and urged the Jandrean people to support Jandreas central standing on the continent. The J.A.D already earn close to twice that of the naval and ground forces which has caused much division and mistrust within the military. Regardless, Jandrea's airforce will always remain the 'golden boy' in the eyes of the Jandrean public. The Jandrean airforce had played a central role in bringing up Jandreas influence in the minor and they were credited for paying an essential role in the annexation of Atharon.

J.A.D generals had also requested an addition 3 airforce bases be constructed east of Jandrea City. This year alone the J.A.D hired another 112 pilots and another 567 engineers to join the division and they have plans to increase that number. "It's just a waste of tax payer money" stated Lione Bragoa of the 'Jandreans for responsible tax spending goverment'. "Isn't our airforce bloated enough?? Why do we continue to spend billions like this, we continue to waste money like this, and for what? So that we can police the Caprecia Minor?? It's disgusting. Our schools can't even afford to provide free lunches anymore to our kids and here we are worrying about whether this oversized airforce is getting enough Caprecs". However Michael Feurland, representative from district 4 of the city Philinzia disagreed with Mrs Bragoas. assessment. "We need to think about the welfare of this nations children" he said. "We cannot afford to ignore the possible threats out there, we have a responsibility to ensuring a strong defense in this country and the airforce is unfortunately a key player to that defense" he further stated. The first of Jandreas Sky hawks are set to arrive at 2 eastern airforce bases within a week with numerous orders set over the coming months. Prime Minister Tony Barris is expected to sign the authorization requested by the J.A.D to increase its budget.

Jandrea Software developer aBrams have announced their own console today called the aBrams MegaBite

Posted Image

In order to compete with a new generation of consoles and gaming being exported in mass from nations like Carpathia and Svlvar, Jandrean giant software manufacturer aBrams have announced their very own console this week a Jandreas Tech convention called the aBrams Megabite. "This game will be revolutionary, it will set a new level of gaming in the industry" said Mark Rowalson, current CEO of aBrams. "We intend to produce a million of these consoles within the next 6 months and we've already made agreements with other factories to produce additional consoles incase demand exceeds production". While the full details of the console are yet to be revealed, some of the games have already been announced, they include 'Jandrea Trivia Persuit', 'Civilization Oracia' and 'Great Theft Vehicle: Jandrea City'. "It's great, I love the idea of our nation releasing a console made especially for our people' stated Tom Terikus, one of the audience whom waited three hours in the cold to get into the convention and to make the announcement. 'Finally a console out there that I can feel comfortable with my kids playing, it's educational and fun' the father of 3 further stated. The aBrams Megabite is set to be released later this year and gaming stores have already allowed for pre-orders to be made months in advance.

Gaming fever hits the Republic

Posted Image

Console fever has hit Jandrea this month with the announcement and release of the aBram Megabite console in conjunction with the Immense 2 console from Lanlania's Aeon Industries. In addition to this Ballistic Software Solutions from the Allied States of Carpathia and Moldova announced that they would be launching a new console in the upcoming months called the 'Telsa' with pre-orders already reaching 11,000 in the first week since. It's not just the software and console developers that are jumping on the console choo choo train as developer Firebat Entertainment proves. The Sylvar based company has already released a number of gaming titles on both the MegaBite and Immense 2 platforms including Titanfall 2 which had caused long lines at a number of gaming stores around Jandrea City and Auron on monday. Then there is 3C Games, a fairly large gaming company from Trienze, Lomarre, whom signed a partnership agreement with aBrams on bringing some of its titles to the platform.

While this boom has benefited electronic retail giants and gaming developers greatly in the way profit, it had also caused great concern among various family and social organisations, including the largest, the Auron City based "Union of Concerned Mothers" (UCM). The organisation had already filed a class lawsuit in the Jandrean high court against a number of retailers who have been selling a Firebat game called "House". They claim this game has been responsible for a recent spike in youth vandalism and violence and demand for the retailers to compensate the public for damages to the tune of 1.3 million Caprecs. Firebat has already released a sequel to the controversial horror game house which is set to arrive on retailers store shelves by next month.

"What we're seeing here is a clash of the old and younger generations" stated Dr Aaron Kurbual, head professor for the Social events and development department at the University of Southern Jandrea in Auron. "The older generations come from a much more conservative a simpler time, naturally they aren't conditioned to the type of scenes we see so often in games these days... certainly not like todays youth are" he stated. When asked to comment on his thoughts concerning the lawsuit mounted at major retailers over the selling of horror title 'House', Dr Kurbual stated that "it won't get very far. What these groups need to understand is that even if we don't like these kinds of games, we need to accept that retailers are protected by the Jandrean constitution to sell what they wish within the bounds of the law, we cannot dictate what they can and cannot do". Dr Kurbual also pointed to a number of past social and cultural revolutions that had lead to a revolt from the older generations, such as back in the 280's R.E when a number of organisations lead a combined class action lawsuit against the television industry for broadcasting violence in some of their shows. "Give them sometime, they will eventually understand that social change, while painful and unfamiliar, is an inevitability for our ever developing social environment.

Roveren's appeal is approved by the high court of Jandrea, new hearing set in 6 months

Posted Image

After having served 4 years at the Lake Galiant center for rehabilitation, former Prime Minister Michael Roveren Junior will get another chance to make a case for release in front of Jandrea's high court in 6 months. Roveren, who was convicted for elections fraud as well as personal use of tax payer money, submitted his appeal soon after his conviction back in 316 and after years of administrative juggling his appeal was finally reviewed and accepted. Roveren's attorney, Tobias Mullock, argued that the trial against the former Prime Minister was rocked by media bias and publicity which had impacted the decision of the jury. Mullock also stated that he has proof the judge was coerced and that some of the Jury were paid off by Roveren's political enemies during his trial however as to what exact proof that is, this will be revealed during Roveren's appeal. "The trial we saw 4 years ago was a sham, a media shame created with the help of Roveren's political enemies and foreign interests" Mullock said. While neither Mullock or Roveren have being forthcoming about what exact evidence to the contrary they have, they do appear fairly confident that Roveren will be released and free to resume his political career. This news is certainly not welcoming to Lilo Koroni and his counterpart in the Caprecian Green party, one of the most vocal figures against Roveren. "This is an outrage, the courts spoke, the justice process was followed, this man does not deserve to be let off just like any other criminal" said Koroni. "Believe me, we'll be out there in full force at the courts to ensure this man serves his time just live any other convict" he stated further.

Roveren wins appeal. Judge: "this case against Mr Roveren got mixed up in politics, this man did not get a fair trial"

Posted Image

In what was one of the most televised court rulings in Jandrean history, judge Mallovan of the Jandrean High Court approved Roveren's appeal for release from jail. In what was a shocking twist to the Roveren saga that has been raging on for more than 6 years now, judge Mallovan ruled that the previous case mounted again the former PM "got mixed up in politics" and the Roveren "did not get a fair trial". The judge stated that much of the evidence mounted against him in regards to elections fraud held little to no substance and that Roveren's opponents were solely motivated by their political ambition.

"This is an outrage, our justice system has just become the laughing stock of Oracia" said Tyler Gowan, director for the Jandrean center of Progressive and Liberal interests. "The evidence was overwhelming, this man was clearly guilty of fraud and are we completely forgetting the millions of caprecs?? tax payer money that disappeared under this man??" Mr Gowan further stated. The Chronicle tried to reach out to Roveren and his lawyer today but did not get an answer. Where to from here the writers of the Chronicle are unsure. Possibly another run for the Prime Ministers position again for Mr Roveren? Well there are no term limits in Jandrea after all so who knows.

BREAKING NEWS: Andros involved in deadly car crash, reported to be in a critical state

Posted Image

As of 17:05 pm on a Sunday, Andros, the leading candidate in the Jandrean prime ministerial elections has been reported to be in a critical state at Hollanders National Hospital in Auron. The leader of the "Jandrean progressives", Andro's limousine was involved in what appeared to be a head to head collision with an oncoming truck. What resulted was the limousine being pushed back and then crushed by the 11 tonne truck. The limousine driver died immediately police reported but Mr Andros was still breathing. "He's in a terrible state" said Dr Purdy, the Doctor in charge at the time Mr Andros was brought in. "If he does survive, and that's a big if, chances are, it will take him years to recover to the point of being able to speak and walk again" he said.

Posted Image

While there were no witnesses at the scene of the event, Aurburn Road Trooper Elliot Roveren (no relation to the former prime minister) was the first one to arrive to the scene. Officials are commending him on his professional response in assisting the unconscious Mr Andros out of the car and keeping warm until the ambulance arrived. "I just did my job" said Roveren as he ran back to his police squad car to avoid any further questions. Authorities are baffled at how Andros suffered a significant blow to his body in the crash. "This was a specially ordered Mibeck Terran limousine" said crash investigator Robert Coldren. "These vehicles have been especially designed for high ranking officials, they are meant to resist impacts twice the power as with this truck. What's more, the back side of the limousine should have been buffered from much of the impact" he stated. An investigation is still ongoing and officials are set to make an important announcement later tonight. It is unsure what this will mean for the current prime ministerial elections.

New fighter jet introduced by the airforce

Posted Image

Dubbed the "Iron Hawk" by the airforce engineers, the A-23 fighter is the newest addition to the JADF (Jandrean Air Defence Forces). The fighter craft is the most advanced out of the current collection of fighters in the airforce and the project to develop it took just over 10 years at a cost to the tax payer of c4.2 billion caprecs. The Iron Hawk is able to reach heights of up to 128,000 feet and can reach speeds beyond any of the current fighters in the airforce. Each unit is expected to cost c583 million caprecs and the airforce only plans to order in 15 of the fighters. "We expect these craft to boost our dominance of the airspace in the Minor" stated Ulta General Mark Taurean. "These craft will be built purely to serve the Jandrean and Deltorian airforces" Taurean further stated. Prime Minister Roveren hailed the introduction of these new craft to the airforce as "an example of Jandrea's leadership on the world stage as an airforce nation".

New law allows for citizens to carry concealed weapons

Posted Image

All Jandreans with Type B gun licences are now able to carry concealed guns in public as per a new law passed in the General Assembly today. The law entitled "the right to protect personal space" was introduced by the Jandrean Liberal party and passed into law by 61% of the representatives. Those individuals with Type B gun licences, that is those who've held their gun licences for more than 10 years and have clocked up 90 hours of gun training classes, are now able to carry guns concealed into all public places with the exception of schools, hospitals and police stations. The law has met some opposition by key members of the Green Party and Progressive Party, some who jokingly refer to it as the "barbaric castle doctrine" and warn that there will be consequences as the result of this law. "What happens if a gun fires off by accident in the supermarket? what then??" stated Yolanda Corias, a member of the Jandrean Progressives. Despite the objections proponents of the law point to Jandrea's low gun violence rate over the last 5 years despite a loosening of gun laws.

One controversial part of the law is the fact that private businesses such as supermarkets, malls and local shops, are now unable to prevent concealed weapons carriers from entering their shops. There are already a number of lawsuits set against this law including one that is likely to head to the Jandrean Supreme court in the capital because of this. As to what impact these lawsuits will make, time will only tell.

Celebrations in Ceilandar with announcement that the city will host the 332 World Hockey Tournament

Posted Image

There are celebrations across Atharon today with news that the provencial capital, Ceilandar, will host the 332 World Hockey Tournament. The city was neck and neck with the city of Tara of Taeunas to which many observers assumed would win given they were neighbours of the Arkausan Union and within the Galdean sphere. Regardless the tournament will now be going towards Ceilander and preparations are now already underway to prepare for the tournament set 10 years from now. "This is a great day for all of Jandrea, a great day for hockey as a significant sport in Jandrea" said John Tal'Yeark, mayor of Ceilandar. "You have no idea what this means for a city like ours after what we've been through over the years, this is indeed something we as a city should be proud to have achieved" he stated further. While Ceilandar is already a hockey crazed city with all the necessary facilities in place, some preparations are still needed to assure the tournament runs smoothly. Prime Minister Roveren is set to visit Ceilandar in the coming week and will meet with the major in regards to preparation plans. "We're not stopping at the hockey tournament, we have eyes on the Winter Olympics as well. Where Nin'Kutcha lost, we'll pick up" the mayor said.

Ceilandar is set to host the finals of the Jandrean National Hockey League where the Nin'Kutcha Wolves will meet with the Auronite Hawks. The game is expected to be watched by over 20 million viewers.

Tok Mireschall's prime Ministerial win indicates national referendum on political power

Posted Image

Tok Mireschall, candidate for the Prime Ministerial position from the Jandrean progressives, won the majority of electoral districts last night against incumbent and veteran prime minister Michael Roveren II. Media outlets and experts were initially certain that Roveren was going to gain yet another election win and discussion mainly centered around Roveren's plans for his next term as Prime Minister. However last nights election loss for 58 year old Roveren was indeed a shock. "The political experts underestimated Tok's run for the prime ministerial position" said Dr Geoffrey Ross, head of the political sciences department at the University of Auron. "Roveren had it coming, most Jandreans outside of Jandrea city were becoming frustrated with many of his policies and his failure to connect with the issues and concerns of Jandrea outside of the capital. There has been a movement of sorts over the last 4 years since Roveren got elected to retake influence and power away from the capital city and distribute it back to the rest of Jandrea" Dr Ross stated. " This is the first time in 50 years that a candidate has won the Prime Ministerial elections without winning the Jandrean capital district". Dr Ross says the most crucial district in these elections was the Auron city metropolitan district and the Progressives won that district with 58% of the vote. "These elections were a referendum on Jandrea city and it's grip on power over the rest of Jandrea, it's indeed a new era of politics for the republic" said Dr Ross. Mireschall is set to assume the office of Prime Minister in August this year. In the mean time the Jandrean Liberal party are left to recover from this shocking loss. We tried to reach out to Roveren's office today in regards to the loss but they refused to make any comment. Mireschall plans to make a media appearance and a campaign speech in Aurburn Square in Auron city later today after his win last night.

Supreme court judge orders Roveren to appear at the high court

Posted Image

JANDREA CITY: 9 months following Roverens loss to Mireschall in the Prime Ministerial elections supreme court judge Loe Uralis has Subpoena'd the former Prime Minister, his advisor Leroy Jenkins and other close political allies (unnamed) to appear in court. The case surrounds newly found evidence from the 321 car crash which killed Roveren's political rival at the time, Andros. The new evidence surrounds Roveren's family relation to the first person on the scene of that crash as well as audio recordings submitted by anonymous individuals and mechanical examinations of the limo Andros was in. "This is true justice right there, refreshing to come out of the Jandrean court" stated Michelle who is the youngest sister of Andros. "Me and my family just want justice, we knew that my brother was murdered and we want the individuals who were responsible for this held accountable". We contacted Liberal Party headquarters today in downtown Jandrea and they refused to respond however various liberal party individuals have called this ruling by the judge a political witch hunt by the new Prime Minister Mireschall. Former Prime Minister Roveren has yet to respond to the judges order, there are reports that the former PM is not even in the country and some are pointing to him taking a "vacation" to Medo-Kubaniza. The judge has given Roveren 14 days to respond to the subpoena.

A group identifying themselves as 'the Caffeine Party' organises protests around Jandrea

Posted Image

JANDREA CITY - Tens of thousands of protesters have made their way to Holldande Square today in the capital to protest against what they see as a tyrannical and communist taken over of Jandrea. Many of the protesters have identified themselves as Roveren supporters but insist their protests are purely against what they view as a socialist takeover and nothing partisan. The majority of protesters have cited their anger over future tax increases despite the fact Prime Minister Mireschall had promised he would not raise them and has not done so. One new organisation has been identified as organising and funding the protests, the newly formed Caffeine Party. A break away faction of conservative voters in Jandrea, the Caffeine party advocates low taxes, a free market and Jandrean superiority over Caprecia Minor. The Caffeine Party also advocates for the government to recognise Abrahamicism as an official state religion. The Caffeine party has also been organising various protests opposing Jandrea's joining of the Commonwealth of Nations, it plans to host another protest later in the week against the signing of membership of the CoN by the Jandrean Prime Minister. The Caffeine Party estimated that there were 650,000 protesters today in the capital however officials have put the number at 110,000 protesters at most. Various progressive groups plan to organise counter protests in the coming weeks.
