THE TIMES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE THE ONLY OFFICIAL GLOBAL NEWS PUBLICATION OF THE UNITED STATES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE Tristram, Caldeum elected Gamma Cities in Oracia, Byzantium elected Beta City TRISTRAM - Three U.S. cities are being recognized as major cities on Oracia. The cities of Tristram, Caldeum and Byzantium all earned high marks from the International Committee of Oracian Recors (ICOR for short) due to their sizes and importance in the Syntrael Region. Tristram, the national capital and Caldeum were chosen as "Gamma Cities". These cities, according to the ICOR, are usually cities that are the largest in their country. Caldeum is the second largest city in the United States and is the best educational city in the country. Many local officials in Caldeum were not surprised that their city received such a high honor. Tristram, on the other hand, as the capital of the United States, was ranked comparatively low. The Federal Capital was ranked one spot above Caldeum, despite the prominence Tristram enjoys in U.S. culture. City officials became even more determined to draw even greater worldwide appeal to the city in the coming years. Byzantium, the largest city in the United States, received a "Beta City" rating. According to the ICOR, beta cities are typically called "regional capitals". With dozens of financial and corporate headquarters dotting Byzantium, it came at no surprise to city officials that the city once called "the heart and soul of the United States" received such praise. President Anakin Cain called the results "promising of the rising influence and power of the United States of Nova Angleterre around the world." |

The Times of Angleterre The Official Publication of the United States of Angleterre ISSUE XXX - 30th Issue Special Edition Joesph Biden, second President of the United States, dies CAMPOBELLO, Virginia - Reports are coming in stating that Joesph R. Biden, the second President of the United States and the first Democrat ever to be elected, has died. He was 80. Biden was Vice President to President James Deckard Cain until the inaugural president retired following the 296 elections which saw Biden and the Democratic Party sweep to power. Biden helped continue the extraordinary domestic economic growth of the United States throughout his single term of service (296-300). After one term, Biden decided to call it quits, allowing for Christopher Lee and the Republicans to win the President's House in the 300 elections. Biden since then has been in quiet retirement, only re-emerging to attend the inaugurations of successors Christopher Lee, William Regal, Anakin Cain and most recently Leonard Briscoe. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days. |

The Times of Angleterre The Official Publication of the United States of Angleterre Westmarch excavation turns up ruins of ancient empire WESTMARCH - A archaeological excavation in the south side of Westmarch turned up major findings. A expedition headed by noted historian Dr. John H. Watson turned up ancient artifacts dating back possibly several centuries. The artifacts, believed to belonging to an ancient civilization called the Anglerine Empire. Part of ruins discovered were believed to be ruins of the ancient capital of Anglerium, which was believed to be a city of great wealth and power that headed an empire that extended through parts of four countries and extended much political and economic power. Though it is widely understood Anglerium's power was short-lived in Syntreal, it was unrivaled in strength for years. |

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre As Summer Games approach, tensions running high in New Orleans NEW ORLEANS - The highly-renovated city of New Orleans is the site of not only the 324 Summer Olympic Games, but also but a heightened amount of tension. With the influx of many foreign athletes and differing cultures into town, it has been an enormous strain to keep the peace throughout New Orleans. Even with heightened security throughout the Olympic City, short spats have broken out in parts of the city. New Orleans Mayor Bill Howard said, "This is something that even when the announcement was made that shocked all of us. New Orleans did not expect this to happen." He urged New Orleans citizens to remain calm and be respectful during the entirety of the Games, whose Opening Ceremony in the New Orleans Superdome is slated to take place within days. Could Briscoe's election signal a Republican Revolution? Leonard Briscoe's 322 election victory was a shock for Democrats and Progressives and indeed the entire left-wing of the United States' political structure. Republicans hadn't been projected to win the presidency, and yet they did. Why? It may be because Angleterran voters may be finally getting sick of Democratic-Progressive domination of the scene that they wanted a change. Liberal elements have been predominant in Congress since the turn of the century, and Democrats have elected three presidents (Joesph Biden in 300, William Regal in 308, Anakin Cain in 316 and 318), while Republicans have only scored the President's House once since 288 (Christopher Lee in 304). Now, in the upcoming 324 midterms, Republicans have a realistic chance of taking control of the House of Representatives, and possibly the Senate too, which would be the first time the Democrats would be completely out of power since the 298 midterms. Did President Briscoe signal a Republican Revolution? It remains to be seen, but the signs right now point to yes. 326 Election: A Regal Comeback? There is high talk of a former President returning to national politics in the 326 presidential election. Sources say that former President William Regal, a Democrat who served three terms from 308 to 316, has been considering a run for the nation's highest office once again. Regal, now 54, was responsible for further growth of Angleterre's domestic economy and is known as the president who set the United States on a course for world affairs. Further details will be sought by the Times to confirm or deny that this story is true, but if it is true, it will have major implications on national politics and indeed Syntreal regional politics. |

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre Anglerium Revived? Construction project could rebuild ancient capital WESTMARCH - Nearby the city of Westmarch stands the ruins of the once proud city of Anglerium, believed to be the original capital of the first truly united Angleterran nation: the Anglerine Empire. Now, nearly eight hundred years later and after years of amazing discoveries into the country's past, a team of builders has announced that they are beginning the process of planning out a new city of Anglerium on top of the ruins of it's predecessor. Anglerium was believed to have been home to at least 250,000 to 300,000 citizens, roughly the size of modern-day New Orleans. Its buildings were large and expansive, and the architecture was that of a mix of seemingly Old Mestran-style with a distinctly Anglerine flavor, in that there were large columns, gardens, statues and mini-monuments scattered across the city. There was believed to be some religious flavor in the city, but little information has been gleaned as far as that was concerned. The builder-construction group Valencium Group announced that the project would commence in 326, and could take nearly fifteen to twenty years to fully complete. The site of construction is a large plot several hundred miles west of Westmarch, approximately sixty miles or so away from the ruins of the original Anglerium. More details will be released later. |

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre Briscoe urges calm as Rylmark tensions grow TRISTRAM - President Leonard Briscoe today issued a statement urging calm in the midst of the referendum in Rylmark's leftist breakaway state of Otafuku. The situation began when a socialist separatist movement in the city of Otafuku managed to get a referendum on the ballot in the city to decide whether or not to be an independent state. 86% turnouts saw a massive vote of 87% for independence trouncing 13% against. The People's Otafukian Collective, as the new state is now called, now finds itself under threat of a possible Rylmarkian invasion and subduing and perhaps even intervention by the Commonwealth of Nations. The Otafukian officials have called for assistance from the Trilateral Alliance, Carpathia, Falsea and the United Socialist Empire to stop the Rylmarkians from moving in. With the situation about to blow up into a Rylmarkian civil war and a possible showdown between communism, democracy and monarchy looming, President Briscoe urged all parties to remain calm and called for negotiation between Rylmark and Otafuku about the crisis. Briscoe said that while the United States has not officially made a decision to recognize the new Otafukian state, he did say that Angleterre believes in self-determination and that it backs the idea of a people wanting to make their own country and create and maintain their sovereignty. Briscoe, a known anti-Communist, did not mention the idea that communists or socialists were behind the referendum, which indicated whether he really didn't care or he did not support the people behind the referendum. President Briscoe gave short statements directed at several nations, including the Commonwealth, Falsea and others. Regarding foreign interference, Briscoe said, "If outside powers directly interfere in this present question, they are doing the people of Rylmark and Otafuku a great disservice. I would advise all outside powers, including the Commonwealth of Nations and the Trilateral Alliance, not to stick their nose in a matter that is not of their concern." |

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre State Department blasts discriminatory Abere law TRISTRAM - A State Department press release contained a scathing condemnation of the Kingdom of Abere in Sketerra over a law that discriminates against homosexual citizens. The "Morality Act" passed the Aberian parliament with 159 votes for and 10 absentions. A handful of opponents to the law refused to vote. To quote the Aberian Media, "The legislation will impose hefty fines for providing information about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender practices (propaganda or either nontraditional sexual relations or not conductive to procreation, as the bill declares), holding gay pride rallies, or showing innapropriate behavior in public. Breaching the law could carry a fine of up $15,000 for an individual and up to $100,000 for media or political organizations. The bill will also ban citizens of countries that allow same-sex marriage from adopting Abėrian children, and it will allow to the government to avoid granting visa to those foreign citizens who have a "historial of anti-moral behavior." The law has already drawn condemnation from other foreign powers, particularly a rather enraged attack by the Forseti of the Arrese Imperium, Lewis Aiden. He said in an address to his people, "The Kingdom of Abere is a state of hatred. These laws are beyond disgusting, and we will not give them any second chances in this; as of today the Kingdom of Abere is an enemy of the Arrese Imperium. Their ambassador has twelve hours to leave the country or he will be detained as an foreign spy, and the Imperium will be organising to freeze the assets of all Aberian government officials in our world-wide banking network. We further will be withdrawing our ambassador for fear of his and his husbands safety, and we will be announcing an embargo on all Aberian goods." U.S. Secretary of State Anita Van Buren released a statement saying, "This law passed by the Aberian legislature is absolute garbage. This is discrimination based on sexuality in the highest order and the United States of Angleterre angrily condemns the Kingdom of Abere for taking on such an outrageous piece of legislation." Van Buren's statement was the strongest condemnation ever issued by a Secretary of State in Angleterran history. She went on to say, "We applaud the Forseti of the Arrese Imperium for his stance and I let him be aware that he and his government have the full backing of the Angleterran government on this matter." The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre Regal forms exploratory committee in thinking of running for Presidency once again WEST NEWBURY, Hampshire - Former President William Regal announced today that he has formed a presidential exploratory committee to make a final decision on whether or not he would run for President of the United States for an unprecedented fourth term. Regal, a Democrat, already served three terms 308 to 316, yielding the presidential chair to fellow Democrat Anakin Cain. A Regal run would prove near-certain that he would be the Democratic nominee in 326, for he holds tremendous support among Democrats from all corners of the party. It is unclear how much support he would get from Aiurian Democrats, but it is likely they would fall in line with the rest of the party. Regal's announcement likely ruins possible runs from other candidates, such as Senate Majority Leader Christopher Witt of Virginia, who ran for the nomination in 322 but withdrew in favor of Orleans Senator Sean Payton. Regal would face at best token opposition to his candidacy from the far-left of the party. President Leonard Briscoe, who is likely to seek a second term in 326 as a Republican, would face an immense challenge in Regal as the Democratic nominee. Already, polls have Briscoe, whose approval ratings loom in the mid 40s, losing to Regal 49% to 42% with 5% undecided or not sure. Angleterre facing divided government for first time in history CAPITOL COMPLEX, Tristram - The United States, for the first time ever, faces a divided Congress and presidency moving into the 324-326 term. Republicans won control of the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time since 298's midterm elections, but Democrats withstood a Republican revolution in Congress to hold to the U.S. Senate by a two seat majority. President Leonard Briscoe and his administration are deeply concerned that the divided Congress poses a threat to reliable governance of the United States, which had been the case since its inception. Briscoe, while pleased his party won control of the House on the backs of winning the Summer Olympics and making numerous gains economically and finalizing unification with Aiuria, cautioned his fellow party members not to go stir-crazy with power. "We can't get crazy. If we do, we'll lose what we just gained in two years." said the President in a news conference the day after the elections. Edited by Anakinexi, Apr 18 2014, 07:47 AM.

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre United States criticizes Carpathia, condemns and sanctions Abere With the crisis in Abere worsening by the day, the United States has only solidified its position backing anti-Abere interests in Sketerra. However, the Allied States of Carpathia came under fire by President Leonard Briscoe, saying that the Carpathians should not have stooped to the lows that they did. "I think using violence to beget violence solves nothing in the end. The Carpathians should have had more sense than that in this present crisis," said the President, "Responsible regional powers don't act the way they did." But once again the Kingdom of Abere took the greatest amount of fire from the President. "The attacking of an embassy and taking the diplomatic staff hostage is outrageous. It is simply unacceptable and uncivilized. If two countries have issues, they should sit down at a summit and hash it out instead of using kindergarten tactics. It's crap." In response to the escalation, Congress passed two resolutions. The first was one showing criticism towards Carpathia for its unruly behavior. The second was a comprehensive sanctions package, the first of its kind in Angleterran history, against Abere. The sanctions end all Aberian-Angleterran relations, revokes Aberian access to the United States, freezes Aberian assets, and expels all Aberian diplomats from U.S. soil. Already, the U.S. has evacuated its personnel under Air Force guard from Abere to prevent the Angleterran embassy from possibly being overrun and hostages taken there. President Briscoe expects Abere to react in kind. "We believe once these sanctions take effect, the Aberians will likely do the same to us." |

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre Carpathia prepares for war; nuclear weapons threat high TRISTRAM - "The Allied States of Carpathia are preparing for war", said Secretary of State Anita Van Buren during the weekly Advisory Council meeting with President Leonard Briscoe. Today, the Carpathian national legislature voted to mobilize Carpathian military assets, which in effect declares war on the Kingdom of Abere, following the latter's inaction in the face of a hostage crisis at the Carpathian Embassy in Abere. Many political experts believe that if the hostages are harmed, Carpathia would possibly use nuclear weaponry against Abere, something permitted in the Allied States' Constitution. President Leonard Briscoe stated during the meeting that the United States is a long standing opponent of nuclear weapons and threatened sanctions against any country who would use them. "Any usage of nuclear weapons by the Allied States of Carpathia will be met with appropriate action by the United States." Mr. Briscoe said. The president did say that military action would be unavailable, but even it were so it would not be taken, claiming that economic and political sanctions were Angleterre had in its arsenal right now. President Briscoe did say however that the government of Abere must step in to free the Carpathian hostages. "They need to do something, not just sit in their ivory towers and twiddle their thumbs. Their inaction is accelerating the pace of events." said the president. In the meantime, both Secretary Van Buren and President Briscoe confirmed that the sanctions on Abere would remain in place until the hostages were freed or a resolution comes to the conflict through mediation. |

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre Congress resolves to never pass treaty to join Commonwealth in any way TRISTRAM - Congress today passed a joint resolution by a near unanimous vote in both chambers to never vote for a treaty that would place the United States in any sort of status with the Commonwealth of Nations except as a sovereign, independent power. With rumors that the Mestran Imperium and Arkausan Confederation could be joining the Commonwealth, which is dominated by the Holy Lanlanian Empire, as observer nations, fears have arisen in Congress that eventually the United States would be forced into a situation where they would have to accede to such an agreement. The resolution, titled "Joint Congressional Resolution to Preserve Angleterran Independence" blocks Congress and the Presidency from engaging in treaty negotiations with the Commonwealth for any reason, including simply observer status and straight-up membership. "WE know how to run our country. We don't need some monarch from Zaroca telling us what to do, and that's exactly what will happen and that is what has been happening." said Senator Jacqueline Haddix (L-Westmarch). He's in: Regal running for President in 326 Former president William Regal made it official today: He will once again seek the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in the upcoming 326 presidential election. With President Leonard Briscoe likely to run for a second term and an influx of Aiurians into the voting populace, this election is likely to be the most unpredictable in the history of the United States. |

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States Note to readers: This is the final edition of the Times of Angleterre. With the merger of the United States of Angleterre and Republican Federation of Aiuria having been completed more than a year ago, numerous news agencies and markets are merging. The Times will be merging with the Aiurian National News network to form The Federation News Network, a more in-depth global publication featuring stories from Aiuria, Angleterre and global events. We thank all of you who have been faithful readers of the Times for so many years and we look forward to presenting our first issue of the Federation News Network. Thank you, Elliot Bennett Editor-in-chief, the Times of Angleterre 326 elections to be "starting with a clean slate" AIUR - The upcoming scheduled elections in 326 for the United States of Angleterre will be held now in all corners of the newly unified Anglo-Aiurian country, according to a meeting of the Aiurian and Angleterran Federal Election Commissions today. This means the Presidency, all 650 seats in the new united Parliament, all state/provincial governorships, and all local and county offices will be up for grabs in a major shake-up of the political system. The elections could mean that the parties in power in the respective countries' legislatures might once again fall into minority, or come up with coalitions to reach majority rule. In Aiuria, Liberals held control of the Aiurian House of Templars (lower house), while Conservatives and Libertarians formed a coalition to rule the House of Judicators (upper house). In Angleterre, Republicans and Libertarians won the House of Representatives (lower house) while Democrats, Progressives and Centrists formed a super-majority in the Senate (upper house). When it comes to the presidency, Angleterrans dominate the race at the moment, with Republican incumbent president Leonard Briscoe and former Democrat president William Regal having confirmed their entry in the race. Aiurian former president Matthew Miller, a Conservative, has been thinking of entering the race but has not yet confirmed it. Many of the incumbent members of the separate parliaments are expected to win to get into the unified parliament. The current projected polling has Democrats/Liberals capturing the lower house while Republicans/Conservatives capture the upper house. For the presidency, William Regal is leading all possible contenders, including incumbent president Leonard Briscoe. |
