Tristram, Caldeum elected Gamma Cities in Oracia, Byzantium elected Beta City

TRISTRAM - Three U.S. cities are being recognized as major cities on Oracia.

The cities of Tristram, Caldeum and Byzantium all earned high marks from the International Committee of Oracian Recors (ICOR for short) due to their sizes and importance in the Syntrael Region.

Tristram, the national capital and Caldeum were chosen as "Gamma Cities". These cities, according to the ICOR, are usually cities that are the largest in their country. Caldeum is the second largest city in the United States and is the best educational city in the country. Many local officials in Caldeum were not surprised that their city received such a high honor. Tristram, on the other hand, as the capital of the United States, was ranked comparatively low. The Federal Capital was ranked one spot above Caldeum, despite the prominence Tristram enjoys in U.S. culture. City officials became even more determined to draw even greater worldwide appeal to the city in the coming years.

Byzantium, the largest city in the United States, received a "Beta City" rating. According to the ICOR, beta cities are typically called "regional capitals". With dozens of financial and corporate headquarters dotting Byzantium, it came at no surprise to city officials that the city once called "the heart and soul of the United States" received such praise.

President Anakin Cain called the results "promising of the rising influence and power of the United States of Nova Angleterre around the world."

After 15 years, U.S. organizes central bank

TRISTRAM - For the last fifteen years, U.S. lawmakers had debated whether or not to create a central bank to control the influx of funds in and out of Angleterre. Some thought it would be a good idea to help create sound financial and monetary policy, while others felt it would be a bad idea that could damage the economy.

Today, the debate ended. With the passage of the Bank Centralization Act, the Bank of the United States was officially created. The act creates a capital bank in Byzantium, and seven regional branches. Tristram has been confirmed as having received a regional branch, while the third is speculated to be going to either Caldeum or Xiansai City. The other branches will be unveiled over a period of seven to ten years. The Bank will have the power to control interest rates, buy and sell U.S. Treasury bonds, put into place monetary controls, and help control the strength of the U.S. specie against other currencies. The bank is expected to create economic strains with foreign powers. President Anakin Cain, who had not been keen to agree with a central bank, has said he is not sure whether or not he'll sign the act or if he'll veto it.

Byzantium downgraded, New Orleans upgraded

BYZANTIUM - The ever-changing global climate has the United States in a position to excel, according to reports from the International Committee of Oracian Records (ICOR).

In it's latest rankings of the world's cities, four U.S. cities make the list: Tristram, Caldeum, Byzantium, and now New Orleans. Tristram and Caldeum have been ranked as "Gamma" cities, or cities believed to be regional centers. Byzantium was ranked as a "Beta" city, or one that has emerging global influence. Byzantium had been an Alpha Minus city at one time, but dropped. New Orleans, in it's first ever appearance on the list, ranked as a "Beta" city.

Experts believe whole-heartedly that ICOR consistently under-ranks Tristram. As the capital of an emerging power, Tristram should be given much more credit than it has gotten in recent rankings, says Dr. John H. Watson, Angleterre's leading historian. "Tristram's low ranking reflects a poor view of the strength of the United States on a global scale, even though the U.S. is an emerging power." Watson says Byzantium's downgrade and Caldeum's stagnation on the list is no surprise. "Not much has come out of Caldeum recently. Byzantium, though, it's power as a financial capital has weakened somewhat here recently and it shows in the rankings." New Orleans, however, comes as a total shock to Watson, "I didn't see New Orleans coming. That tells you something. If a city of no less than 250,000 is ranking higher than two cities nearly five or six times its size, that tells you something is being done right in New Orleans."

Sean Payton announces Democratic run for President

Posted Image

Senator Sean Payton (Democrat - Orleans) has become the first announced candidate for the 323 United States presidential election that could pit the Senator against a powerful and popular incumbent President Anakin Cain.

Payton, 52, has served in the United States Senate representing the state of Orleans for the last 13 years. Before that he served as a U.S. Representative in Orleans' 12th District, including the cities of Metairie and Lucasville and included the south side of New Orleans, for 6 years. He also spent time as an alderman for South New Orleans and was a municipal prosecutor. Payton has staked a center-left record throughout his political career. Serving in Congress under Presidents Christopher Lee and William Regal, Payton became adversarial to both presidents. Payton led a major battle to defeat a major tax package favored by the Regal Administration in 310 that he perceived would have damaged the U.S. economy, then still in isolation from the rest of the world. Then, in a major swerve, Payton led Democratic and Progressive senators behind a charge to support President Regal's plan to lead the U.S. out of isolation and into the world arena. When President Regal became so ill that he was forced to quit, Payton was considered by Democrats to be a possible successor to Regal in the 317 special election, but he stayed out of the race, allowing Anakin Cain to win office almost unopposed. Payton has backed much of President Cain's foreign policy and has lauded his economic achievements. However, Payton quickly became a vocal critic of Cain's decision to go to war with Aiuria, citing that the reasoning for war was not substantiated through the legal process, therefore leading Payton to vote No on the declaration of war.

Payton has pledged to get the U.S. economy to gains of 1% in GDP growth for at least two straight years if elected. To do this, Payton has proposed massive tax incentives to U.S. companies willing to invest to create more jobs and open up employment opportunities across the country. He also plans to end the war with Aiuria, which Payton says has put a drag on the economy and has hurt Angleterre's image abroad. Payton also wants to increase education and infrastructure spending and open Angleterran universities and colleges to foreign students and institute foreign exchange programs, allowing citizens of foreign countries to attend school in Angleterre at affordable tuition costs. In foreign affairs, Payton views Falsea as slightly suspicious but not much of a threat to U.S. interests around the world. He praised Falsean president Louise Rourke for reaching out more to the United States than Mestran Emperor Nicholas Alexander did during his visit to Tristram in 319, which Payton finds odd. He distrusts the Commonwealth of Nations, more importantly the Holy Lanlanian Empire, but believes that more direct bilateral talks between Angleterre and Lanlania can help bridge such gaps. Payton believes the United States should consider joining the Syntraelite Alliance simply only as a buffer against aggressive powers and to better defend a still militarily-weak United States. But, strangely, Payton views the Galarese Pact as part of a dangerous explosion of some nations' desire to become "superpowers" in the guise of large alliances and unions.

In a hypothetical match-up between Senator Payton and President Anakin Cain, they run just about even, with President Cain ahead by a paper-thin margin.

321 Mid-term elections end with Dems, Progressive coalition standing tall

The 321 U.S. Congressional elections have concluded with a no-surprise result of Democrats and Progressives holding on to their majority coalition in both houses of the United States Congress, ensuring a somewhat easier time for President Anakin Cain and his Centrist allies. The Republican-Libertarian coalition came up several seats short in both houses, but the attention now shifts to the Centrists, who hold the key to supermajority for the Democrats and Progressives, or a slim chance of taking the majority power for the Republicans and Libertarians.

RESULTS

HOUSE: Democrats-Progressives 127, Republicans-Libertarians 101, Centrists 17
DEM-PRO +26 vs. REP-LIB, +107 vs. CEN

SENATE: Democrats-Progressives 24, Republicans-Libertarians 18, Centrists 6
DEM-PRO +6 vs. REP-LIB, +18 vs. CEN

Republicans to nominate Briscoe for President

Posted Image

GEORGETOWN, Mar Sara - Republicans are set to officially select former Attorney General Leonard W. Briscoe as their candidate for President of the United States.

Briscoe, a 59 year-old moderate Republican, quickly moved behind the scenes to establish himself as the leading contender for the Republican nod. A former Attorney General under President Christopher Lee, Briscoe also served as general counsel to the President and was a leading authority on justice affairs for Presidents Lee and William Regal. Briscoe also served as a prosecutor in Byzantium, as well as a criminal court judge. He was briefly floated as a possible Supreme Court choice, but Briscoe let it be known he was not interested in the high court. Politically, Briscoe aligned himself with more moderate and semi-conservative elements within the Republican and Centrist parties, advocating a cautious foreign policy and an emphasis on "Angleterran exceptionalism", which focused on internal economic affairs, which would translate to wider influence economically. Briscoe has been careful to avoid sharp criticism of any presidential administration, but he has had his share of conflicts with President Anakin Cain over the last few years.

Briscoe has applauded President Cain's pro-growth policies, but has stressed the burdens of a 22.5% tax rate on ordinary Angleterrans has stretched the economy thin in some areas. Briscoe plans to reduce taxes by a rate of 4.5% over the next two years, as well as create additional tax deductions and exemptions to put more money in peoples' pocket. Briscoe believes the war with Aiuria was provoked by the latter, and plans to put the full force of the Angleterran military in the fight, as well as increase military spending by nearly (S) 700 billion. In foreign affairs, Briscoe seeks to align Angleterre with more business-friendly and democratic governments, such as Mestra and Lanlania. He finds himself at odds with Falsea, as Briscoe views communist governments as fraught with risk and corruption.

Briscoe runs nearly even with Democratic candidate Sean Payton with President Anakin Cain leading.

Payton, Briscoe square off in first ever presidential debate

ADRIANOPLE, Anatolia - Presidential candidates Sean Payton and Leonard Briscoe went mano-e-mano in a presidential debate the two of them both thought they would be sharing with President Anakin Cain. Instead, the two remaining candidates battered and bruised each other for ninety minutes.

Briscoe, holding a slight lead in the polls after a recent international poll found that the majority of nations around the world would prefer the Republican over Democrat Payton, opened with a strong opening statement that set the pace for the remainder of the night. The former Attorney General cast doubt on the economic plan of the Cain administration, and said the sluggish growth of the country was very disturbing. "I want to see a day in which our growth is greater than that of any country around the world..." Briscoe said, "... in this era, we cannot settle for .5% growth or .7%. We need big numbers at important times." Senator Payton was quick to point out that this era was a new one for Angleterre, as it had not previously been in a global setting. "We need to remember, those of us in our high offices, that our country has been on the world stage for a little less than five years. We're going to limp for a little bit before we get on our feet for good."

Briscoe and Payton traded barbs for much of the rest of the debate. Payton chastised Briscoe for his rhetoric against Falsea, claiming fearmongering and antagonism. "Communism is not embraced by this country. We only seek trade with the Falseans and that's it." said Payton. Briscoe said Payton's criticism of Mestra was unfounded, and that the only reason nothing was accomplished in the talks between Mestran Emperor Nicholas Alexander and President Anakin Cain is because the President did not assert himself as a leader of an emerging power. When asked to name the single biggest possible threat to the United States around the world, Payton answered, "I would have to say it's a combination of the Syntraelite Alliance and the Commonwealth of Nations. Both have immense power that makes them hard to trust in good faith." This answered stunned observers, who had not expected the Orleans senator to make such a bold statement about two global powers. Briscoe's answer was Falsea, believing Falsea's communist ideologies were rampant among Progressives and some Democrats and could lead to insurrection.

After the debate, it seemed as if Payton leveled the playing field considerably against Briscoe. Heading into the debate, Briscoe led Payton 46%-41%. After the debate concluded, Payton was running neck and neck with Briscoe, at 44% a piece.

President Cain mum on questions about why he dropped out of presidential race

TRISTRAM - President Anakin Cain was uncharacteristically quiet when asked questions about why he dropped out of the 322 presidential race. Many reporters asked if there was something health-wise forcing Cain out of Executive Hall or if it were something else. The president simply shrugged and only made a slight chuckle. Cain was much more willing to answer questions on other subjects however.

BREAKING: New Orleans wins 324 Summer Olympic Games

NEW ORLEANS, Orleans - The city of New Orleans has been awarded the 324 Summer Oracian Olympic Games, according to a statement released by the International Oracian Olympic Committee.

New Orleans won the votes of six National Committees, according to the final balloting. Cias, Mestra and Badenburg, Deltoria winning the votes of five committees. Ki'Tal City, So'Karsa won the votes of three committees. Questions had been aroused during the voting whether or not New Orleans, a city of 250,000 and the smallest bidding city, would be fully prepared to withstand the rigors of hosting the Games. U.S. representative James Raynor responded, citing the fabric and youth of Angleterre and its determination to succeed:

"We took up the monumental task of being a democratic country because we, sir, believe it can and will be done! New Orleans did not throw it's hat in the ring to host these Games if they did not believe it could be done! They know it CAN be done, and they know it WILL be done! Angleterre is not any Mestra, a Jandrea or a Lanlania, but my friend it has more fiery spirit and heart than all three of those nations combined and it will be on full display in the New Orleans Summer Olympic Games if it comes out to be that way."

New Orleans was not a favorite heading into the voting. In fact, it was widely believed Cias and/or Badenberg were the odds-on favorite to win. According to anonymous sources, the reason why New Orleans jumped out into the lead was that some committees believed that the city of Harrogath had been deliberately cheated out of the 322 Winter Games which eventually went to Queen Anne, Millerainia. There were also those who said that cities like Cias or Badenberg had already proven to be effective hosts for such events, but to let a new city or a new country have a shot. Detractors toward the New Orleans bid said that because New Orleans was so small and there were incredibly complex challenges for such a city to effectively host the Games.

The news came about fifteen minutes after the decision was rendered. Here's the reactions the Times has learned so far:

New Orleans
The reaction in New Orleans was one of stun and shock. The denizens of the Crescent City were taken by surprise by the IOOC's decision, thinking that New Orleans was a longshot to win. After a while a small party erupted on Bourbon Street near the Global Quarter, which turned into a massive celebration from citizens who realized that their city had arrived on the world stage.

End of an Era: Breaking down Anakin Cain's Presidency and the challenges facing Leonard Briscoe

The election on November 1, 322 marked two major milestones in the history of the United States: the end of the Founders' era and the beginning of a new legacy. Anakin Cain, now a departing president, was the last gasp of a generation that survived the turmoils of the formation of the United States. The son of the nation's first chief executive, James Deckard Cain, Anakin really tried to build on the legacy his father started. With the nation's fifth president exiting and the sixth one yet to take office, it's time to reflect.

Anakin Cain will be remembered as a conflicted president. In his mid-twenties upon election, Anakin was still going through the trials and tribulations of young adulthood. Add on the pressures of being the leader of your country in a changing Syntreal and you have a very stressed out young man sitting in the President's House. But right up until the end of the Anglo-Aiurian War, he held it together. He briefly snapped in revealing the treachery in which started the war, and then regained control after firing nearly half of his administration and essentially starting over. Domestically, growth remained steady despite the many shocks to the economic system of Angleterre. GDP growth stood at an average of 0.73% growth for the entirety of Cain's term; latest figures show it may have went up over 1% for 322. Trade with foreign countries increased significantly, and domestic operations boomed, allowing for a modest trade surplus to be diverted to other programs. The nation's first true war was also fought to a draw, but it in a way could be chalked up to a victory because Anakin's ultimate goal of unification with Aiuria was close at hand. But Angleterre lost 9,000 of her sons and daughters to the war, and the President's support eroded as the war raged on. Not only that, but the Centrist Party could never get control of Congress, even though supporters and friends of the administration populated the Democratic and Progressive parties, so much so that they formed a coalition to prevent the President from being overwhelmed by opponents. I think President Anakin Cain will be remembered as one of the more decent, but not greatest, presidents of the United States.

His successor will now inherent a far more difficult situation for Angleterre than any of the previous five ever faced. Leonard Briscoe faces an ever expanding system of allliances and unions between countries around the world that could throw the world into chaos if left unchecked, an uncertain domestic situation, unfinished negotiations with Aiuria, and many other headaches. Briscoe also faces a hostile Congress; a Republican president having to work with a Democratic-Progressive Congress? Not likely to work out. But if given the best possible opportunities, it could work to Briscoe's advantage. He's said he doesn't particularly want to get into alliances, but wants strong ties with Mestra and Lanlania, despite the former being Angleterre's greatest political and economic rival right now and Lanlania being viewed as a highly distrustful and nosy country by Angleterrans. Briscoe thinks he could alleviate the Lanlania issue by holding direct bilateral talks during his first term, as well as rekindling negotiations with Mestran Emperor Nicholas Alexander. Given his distrust of Falsea, however, it is not known if the agreements signed with former Falsean president Louise Rourke will be allowed to stand. But it is believed Briscoe will not end the deal, as it has greatly benefited the Angleterran economy. Briscoe is also wanting the strengthen the military, which he perceives as being weak. He decried the fact that almost half of Angleterre's standing army was killed during the war with Aiuria and has said he may have to tweak his original figure of (S)700 billion to nearly twice that figure, something that surely will infuriate Congress. With several variables to factor in to Briscoe's upcoming presidency, it remains to be seen how things will progress when it starts on January 26.

Xiansai congressman calls for end of relations with Mestra

TRISTRAM - A Xiansai congressman took to the floor of the House of Representatives today voicing his anger about continued U.S. relations with the Mestran Imperium and its allies.

Congressman Hao Xue, a Libertarian representing the 2nd Congressional District of Xiansai including western Xiansai City, said that Mestra has been engaging in hostile acts across Syntreal over the last ten years and continues to back the United States into a corner that it cannot get out of. He pointed to the recent conquering of territories to the immediate south of Angleterre and to the invasion of Corali as major indicators of Mestran "abuse of power". Hao blasted the Syntrealite Alliance as nothing more than a extension of Mestran power. "Who really controls the Syntrealite Alliance?" he asked on the floor, "Whose to say Mestra won't use the Alliance against us, despite their promises not to do so?" Hao also took aim at the other Syntreal nations for letting Mestra run rampant across the region unchecked, and even worse, bent themselves to the will of Emperor Nicholas himself.

Hao implored President Leonard Briscoe to dramatically increase the size and power of the U.S. military and to join in on a possible military alliance with countries opposed to Mestran, and even Lanlanian, interests.

President Briscoe rumored to summon Falsean ambassador any day now

TRISTRAM - Sources close to President Leonard Briscoe say that he is planning to summon the Falsean ambassador at some point this week to discuss future relations between Falsea and Angleterre. Some fear Briscoe will go back on his word to keep any deals with Falsea alive and cancel the agreement signed in 321 by then-Falsean premier Louise Rourke and former President Anakin Cain. Briscoe said during the previous presidential campaign and briefly mentioned in his inaugural that he would keep in place all agreements made during Anakin Cain's presidency.

Briscoe was also rumored to be planning to summon ambassadors of Mestra and Jandrea in the future as well.

New Orleans is 3/5 of the way ready for Olympics: Committee

NEW ORLEANS, Orleans - The New Orleans Olympic Host Committee announced today that the city of New Orleans is approximately 60% finished with it's monumental preparations needed for the 324 Summer Olympic Games. New Orleans was chosen to host the Summer Games, the first of the Modern Olympiad, in 322 just before the U.S. presidential election.

Committee chairman Michael Steele said in a press conference that renovations to the New Orleans Superdome had been finished weeks ahead of time. "The Superdome could hold the Opening Ceremonies tomorrow if they were tomorrow." said Steele. The Superdome originally could only hold 70,500, but after the renovations it can hold up to a maximum of 135,000, with five different spillover points around the perimeter of the Superdome with massive big screens that can hold 20,000 to 30,000. "All in all, possibly around a quarter of a million people could be at the Superdome watching the ceremonies." Steele reported.

Steele also revealed that approximately four massive hotel complexes had been completed near Fifteenth Street, now renamed Olympiad Avenue, across the way from the Olympic Park, which according to Steele was halfway finished. "There may still be one or two things left to do in the hotels, but we're confident that they're safe and well-stocked to serve the needs of the athletes coming here to compete." Reporting on the progress at the Olympic Park, Steele said, "We're about halfway done. Construction workers are working day and night to get it done before the Games are set to begin. But we really expected to have more done by now."

Steele also took time to reveal the proposed plan to the IOOC for the Opening Ceremonies to the New Orleans Games:

"We will start with a Parade of Nations, each of them customized in accordance with the respective national committees' wishes and we will get into contact with them about how they want to do this. We will have to entrances that will serve as entryway for the Caprecian and Nysan flames. They come and meet in the very center of the Superdome. Once united, the flames will create the Unity Flame and a fireworks display will commence both inside the Superdome and outside. Obviously the show inside the Dome will be very limited to account for safety of spectators and athletes. There will be more added later, I'm sure but this is a big start."

President Briscoe condemns Congressman Hao Xue, denounces any talk of ending relations with Mestra

THE PRESIDENT'S HOUSE, Tristram - President Leonard Briscoe took to the podium in the Press Briefing Room today, angrily denouncing Xiansai congressman Hao Xue and refuting concerns that the United States' relations with the Mestran Imperium were on a downward slope.

"This sort of stuff has no basis and is a bunch of nonsense." President Briscoe said, "The fact that one Congressman has got the whole country in an uproar is unbelievable and I think Mr. Xue ought to be ashamed." Briscoe was visibly upset as he was very animated while speaking, which is unusual for the reserved former Attorney General. He pressed Congress not to pay any mind to Xue's words, "Allowing him to dictate our foreign policy would be tantamount to discord in our government."

Briscoe also sought to re-assure officials in I'balan, who heard of the comments and were very much upset at Xue's comments. "Our present relationship is stable and it will remain that way."

President Briscoe to go to Congress for additional (S)350 billion for military

THE CAPITOL, Tristram - In his first annual message to Congress, President Leonard Briscoe is expected to ask for an increase in military spending by (S)350 billion, the largest proposed increase in the U.S. military budget since 301.

With large budget surpluses predicted for the next several years, the President believes he can squeeze in the additional funds without placing the country into deficits. Already, the Department of Defense eats up an estimated 10.3% of the current government budget. The President would have to inevitably either cut budgets for other departments or raise taxes or both to ensure a clean increase in spending. Initially the administration was seeking an outrageous (S)700 billion, but cut it half due to the fact that such a high figure was essentially impossible to achieve.

With Congress controlled by Democrats and Progressives, the likelihood that such a clean increase would pass is highly unlikely. Senator Lance Storm (D-Kehjistan) essentially killed the idea even before the bill even hit the floor of the House. "It's not going to happen at those numbers." said Storm, "But I think if the President can compromise with us about this, I think he can get some sort of increase. We're not going to outright deny him this."

Senator Jennifer Rogers (R-Orleans) fired back, saying, "I think it's important we look at this with some worry. The United States military is weak and feeble compared to those of our neighbors and we need to be on top of things as soon as we can."

The full details of President Briscoe's request will not be made public until later this evening, when Briscoe appears before a joint session of Congress to give his message.

Multiple senators calling for U.S. to join alliances

RICHMOND, Virginia - Senator Christopher Witt (D-Virginia) has announced he is preparing to write a bill that would call for the alignment of the United States to join in with the Medo-Kubanizan Empire and it's Great Entente, a move that would be seen as a direct slap in the face to the Mestran Imperium and the Holy Lanlanian Empire. The Great Entente is known to be opponents to Lanlania and all of its allies, Mestra included. Witt says that it would make no sense to fall in line with one nation (Mestra) which is Angleterre's greatest rival and and another nation (Lanlania) who has become an overbearing superpower lumbering in the south.

However, other senators are entering the fray calling for the United States to enter different alliances with different countries. Senator Bernard Olbermann (P-Scosglen) has called for Angleterre to fully ally with Falsea, the only country that Angleterre has a concrete trade deal with and the country regarding in some circles as the strongest in the Nysan hemisphere. Senator Xi Ling (R-Xiansai) has said it may not be a bad idea to join the more local Syntrealite Alliance, a move that would possibly be seen as one to calm the nerves of U.S. citizens and possibly put the rivalry with Mestra on the backburner.

The only person with enough power to make any sort of agreements would be President Leonard Briscoe, who said as late as his inaugural address that the United States would not join any alliances of any sort. He may soon regret those words.

Special Commentary: How the Olympics could change everything about U.S.
by: former President William Regal

The city of New Orleans having been chosen as the host city of the upcoming Summer Olympic games is quite a feat unheard in our corner of the world. Angleterre has only been out on the world stage for a few years and already we have managed to upstage three of the most powerful nations in the world to garner the Olympics. Some may say it was a fluke. While it could very well have been a fluke, a particular quote that I read from an international newspaper the other day struck me as odd.

Of course we all know that one Mr. Hao Xue, a little-known congressman from Xiansai, made a blasphemous speech upon the floor of the House demanding an end to relations with the Mestran Imperium, our next door eastern neighbor and number one trade partner. As outrageous as Mr. Hao was in his rhetoric, not to mention irrelevant, the reaction in I'balan was, dare I say, most surprising. Members of the Imperial Senate were enraged at the comments of Mr. Hao, and some in I'balan wanted Mestra's Emperor to cut ties with us before we did it to them. That too, is outrageous and likely out of the question. But one particular phrase uttered in the response to Mr. Hao's comments in the Mestran Central News publication got my attention. It reads:

"Reaction from members of the Syntrealite Alliance have been rather moot, likely do the inclination that the comments made are nothing more than a publicity stunt aimed at gaining the nation of Angleterre some attention amid a region filled by the growing influence of the Mestran State."[1]

I must admit to you, readers, that I found myself becoming a bit angry at this comment, which is why I brought up the Olympics. New Orleans has been preparing day and night for the last year or so for the Games, and I found it odd that a comment coming from our neighbor, who no less actually is the site of the headquarters for the International Oracian Olympic Committee and whose city of Cias also vied for the Summer Games and nearly won, could be so cruel. Which is why I must ask this question: what will the Mestran media say when the New Orleans Games begin in a few months? Will they dismiss that event as our country trying to seek attention over the growing influence of the Mestran Imperium? I would hope not, for I am sure when the Mestran athletes arrive, I wouldn't be surprised if they are pelted with jeers and every species of rubbish people can lay their hands on.

Angleterrans do not like to be dismissed, by anyone about anything. It roils our blood when it happens. And, it gets us into a very bad mood. Trust me. I know. I led this country for two and a half terms as president and saw the same thing happen several times. But, however, I am sure that nobody would be so foolish as to conduct themselves in such an improper manner.

OLYMPICS CENTRAL, New Orleans - "After nearly three years of hard work and dedication, New Orleans is nearly ready to unveil the Olympic Stadium to the world." New Orleans Olympic Host Committee chairman Michael Steele made the announcement to much fanfare today as the city nervously counted down the days to the start of the Games.

The identity of New Orleans has changed significantly since the Olympics preparation had begun the day the Crescent City was chosen as the first host of a Summer Games in the modern Olympiad. The skyline has almost doubled in size since then, as hotels and massive accommodations, restaurants, and the like sprung up across the Olympic District of New Orleans.

"We are proud to announce that we firmly believe that New Orleans is fully prepared to host the Olympics." Steele said, as he read off a massive list of improvements that New Orleans, the State of Orleans and other communities and states have made. The New Orleans International Airport has been expanded to handle the massive influx of flights and travelers from countries all across the world. The highways connecting New Orleans with much of the rest of the country have been expanded, and the seaports of Metairie, Nuonce and Bonaventure have all been expanded to accommodate high sea capacity. Security has also been ramped up in New Orleans, as President Leonard Briscoe has called up the Orleans State National Guard as well as several units of the U.S. Army and Marine Corps to assist in the protection of the city during this time. He also disbursed resources to the Border Patrol in cooperation with Mestran border authorities to ensure the Mestran-Angleterran border would not be tampered with.
