THE TIMES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE THE ONLY OFFICIAL GLOBAL NEWS PUBLICATION OF THE UNITED STATES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE Tristram, Caldeum elected Gamma Cities in Oracia, Byzantium elected Beta City TRISTRAM - Three U.S. cities are being recognized as major cities on Oracia. The cities of Tristram, Caldeum and Byzantium all earned high marks from the International Committee of Oracian Recors (ICOR for short) due to their sizes and importance in the Syntrael Region. Tristram, the national capital and Caldeum were chosen as "Gamma Cities". These cities, according to the ICOR, are usually cities that are the largest in their country. Caldeum is the second largest city in the United States and is the best educational city in the country. Many local officials in Caldeum were not surprised that their city received such a high honor. Tristram, on the other hand, as the capital of the United States, was ranked comparatively low. The Federal Capital was ranked one spot above Caldeum, despite the prominence Tristram enjoys in U.S. culture. City officials became even more determined to draw even greater worldwide appeal to the city in the coming years. Byzantium, the largest city in the United States, received a "Beta City" rating. According to the ICOR, beta cities are typically called "regional capitals". With dozens of financial and corporate headquarters dotting Byzantium, it came at no surprise to city officials that the city once called "the heart and soul of the United States" received such praise. President Anakin Cain called the results "promising of the rising influence and power of the United States of Nova Angleterre around the world." |

THE TIMES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE THE ONLY OFFICIAL GLOBAL NEWS PUBLICATION OF THE UNITED STATES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE Senate to debate Syntrealite Alliance, future ties with neighboring nations TRISTRAM - Members of the United States Senate reconvened today after two weeks off for a short vacation, and they have hit the ground running. With the recent results coming out of the Syntreal Conference in Mestra, the Senate moved to begin consideration of even taking up any treaty presented to it by President Anakin Cain and his administration. Republicans are concerned that the sudden reversal of the long-standing isolationist policy adopted by the previous three presidents is being rushed, and that the United States is still not strong enough to withstand the rigors of foreign obligations in such manner. Senator Justinian Caesarius (R-Anatolia) said on the floor, "Nova Angleterre is not going to be able to live up to any obligations set upon it by any treaties. We just do not have the resources." Democrats, however, while wincing at the speed at which the President is moving things along, are optimistic that they can gradually phase in parts of the treaty. Senate Majority Leader Christopher Witt (D-Virginia) announced via his website that the Senate will begin discussions on the Alliance treaty piece by piece and take separate votes. Other Democrats view this as troubling, because it could mean the United States may lose some of the protections that the Alliance would provide. Senator Barriss Offee (D-Kehjistan) remarked, "If we say yes to some parts, and no to others, we're going to cause problems." The Executive Hall is confident that it can get the full treaty past the Senate. The real trouble will be in the House of Representatives, where Speaker Leon Kennedy (D-Westmarch) has said that the treaty faces opposition from isolationist Republicans and liberal Democrats. "It'll be a tough vote. I can't give any guarantees." said the Speaker at his home in Boston, Westmarch. The Senate also is expected to take up possible outlooks for future relations with Mestra, Last Hold and the Invarian Coalition, three states that have either publicly or privately expressed interest in relations with the United States in recent days. It is also expected to open outlooks for relations with the Commonwealth of Nations, who are rumored to be beginning the process of opening a military campaign in the Syntreal region against piracy. |

THE TIMES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE THE ONLY OFFICIAL GLOBAL PUBLICATION OF THE UNITED STATES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE President: U.S. will not join Syntraelite Alliance TRISTRAM - President Anakin Cain told reporters today that the United States will not be party to the Mestran Accord. With bipartisan opposition visible in Congress, and due to friction within his administration, the President decided that it would not be in Nova Angleterre's best interest to join the Alliance at the present time. "Our country is still not strong enough to hold up in an alliance filled with Syntreal's super-heavyweights. At present, our focus should be on our economy and our connections with international trade, not militarizing ourselves and be forced into situations the Nova Angleterran people would not want to be in." said the President in a press conference in the Press Room at the President's House. The decision was met with praise by Congressional leaders, but some were very upset at the President's decision. "Anakin Cain's decision today to turn his back on our friends in Syntreal was rather insulting." remarked Senator Marcus Britain (R-Westmarch). President Cain did, however, affirm his intent to pursue economic partnerships with foreign powers. He highlighted recent agreements with two major global airlines, Sainam's Air Sainam and Mestra's Aero Imperial, as only the first step to new economic opportunities for the United States. "These agreements will allow us to ship our domestic products to other countries and allow them to see the great craftsmanship of the Nova Angleterran people." said the President. Mr. Cain also addressed rumors that his government was sending a delegation to Mestra's new International Commerce and Convention Center's opening. "It is in the works. Commerce Secretary Messina, with my blessing, has sent word to the director of the ICC to inform him of our intent." said the President. As to rumors about a possible high-speed rail connection between Mestra and the United States, Mr. Cain said, "It was brought up to me a couple of times by Mestran officials and we are looking into possible benefits of this for our country." |

THE TIMES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE THE ONLY OFFICIAL GLOBAL PUBLICATION OF THE UNITED STATES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE U.S. economy expands by less than 1/4 of 1% by end of year: report BYZANTIUM - The U.S. economy is expected to expand by less than a quarter of a percent for the end of 316 heading into 317. The GDP growth for the United States at this point is forecasted to be around 0.22%, with 54,000 jobs added to private sector payrolls, but the public sector shed 19,000. The biggest gains were in green industry (20,000) and manufacturing (13,500), as rumors spread of a possible international deal with the Mestran company Synergist Industrial. The news is decent for President Anakin Cain, who has been hellbent on continuing the strong growth of the past ten years. However, reaction was still rather uneasy as the economy still grew. Opponents of the President, mostly Republicans and conservative Democrats, say that the results are the beginning of a bad trend for the economy. Some experts say contractions of the economy would not be a complete disaster, as long as they were moderate contractions. "We can survive a few years of small to moderate economic contractions, but not big ones to put us in a recession or even a depression." says economist Richard Cordray of the University of Tristram. The President's House did not make a statement on the matter, but it is believed that they are not happy with the results. USFL season underway: Byzantium falls to Virginia, 27-20 The Byzantium Cataphracts were beaten by the Virginia Cavaliers in the opening game of the 316-317 season. Byzantium (0-1), the World Champion from last season, found themselves on the short end of the stick against the Cavaliers (1-0), who went 6-10 last year, with a final of 27-20. Cataphracts coach Marvin Johnson said in his after-game presser, "We did not expect this to happen. They came at us aggressively, our defense folded, our O-line collapsed right in front of the quarterback. It was a complete and total mess out there." Cataphracts QB Colin North threw for 329 yards with 2 touchdowns, but had 3 interceptions that hampered the champions' chances. Meanwhile, Byzantium's running game, the most dangerous in the league last year with a total of 2,199 yards, was held to only 92 yards. WR Michael Barston had 192 receiving yards and caught a touchdown pass. Cavaliers QB Brandon Moore threw for 310 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions and also ran for 101 yards. The rest of Virginia's running corps ran for another 204 yards total. Cavaliers WR William Trump had 183 receiving yards and caught a touchdown pass, but had a fumble in the late third quarter to allow the Cataphracts to pull the game within one touchdown. |

THE TIMES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE THE ONLY OFFICIAL GLOBAL PUBLICATION OF THE UNITED STATES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE President Anakin Cain announces huge economic initiatives to spur growth, foreign trade TRISTRAM - President Anakin Cain announced today that his administration and the Economic Council of the United States are working together to embark on a bold new set initiatives designed to bolster economic growth into the new year. The President announced the creation of what's being called an "Export-Import Bank", which will be tasked with setting international tariffs and trade deals with multi-national corporations. He also told business and industry leaders in a private conference to get their products readied for a mass export shipment to be conducted by agreements several outside powers. The President also announced that the Department of Commerce was going to be receiving a (S)32 billion increase in its budget for the next fiscal year to provide subsidies to profitable industries and business in the environmental, manufacturing, engineering, high-tech and banking industries to bolster their growth and encourage further investment at home and abroad. These initiatives are things that the President plans to use his executive order powers to get done, rather than go through Congress, which is what normally would be done. However, the increase to the Commerce Department's budget is something Congress would need to appropriate, even though the budget for the new fiscal year has already been set and the President is free to spend money however he wants. President Cain says that his plan can bolster growth up to around .8 to 1.1% growth in GDP by the end of 318, which is a fair amount of time to attempt this new plan. Republicans in Congress have been relatively moot on the subject, but they are a bit worried about the ever-expanding powers of the presidency. |

THE TIMES OF NOVA ANGLETERRE The Only Official Global Publication of the United States of Nova Angleterre Congress headed for gridlock, partisanship as election nears TRISTRAM - With national elections approaching, Democrats and Republicans look poised for a major showdown on many issues in what is shaping up to be a bitterly partisan season. Democrats hold control of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, but control of both houses seems to be nearing impossible heading into a pivotal 317 election that pits the two parties against one another while the executive branch of government is controlled by Independents. Republicans are expected to take control of the House, while they are only expected to whittle away at the Democrats' majority in the Senate. With 245 possible seats in the House, Republicans on average should manage 125 seats, while Democrats drop to 120 seats. With 39 possible seats in the Senate, Democrats on average should hold 21 seats, while Republicans hold 18. In the House, that's a +16 seat increase for the Republicans and in the Senate a +3. The President's House, controlled by Independents led by President Anakin Cain, hasn't made much noise in this mid-term fight, but they know eventually they'll need to be involved. It would seem in recent months the administration has been inclined to agree with the Democrats over the Republicans, since the latter party has seen fit to upend the administration's efforts on numerous fronts, and may attempt to infuriate the new economic agenda that the President has begun to implement in the last few days. Though they have said little, Republicans are not sold on the new ideas the President has embraced and some have said they are going to "take a second look at the plan". |

THE TIMES OF ANGLETERRE The Only Offical Global Publication of the United States of Angleterre War not seeming to affect election TRISTRAM - The recent start of war between the United States and Aiuria has not seemed to affect the current election campaign. But it does seem to have emboldened the weaker three parties in Angleterran politics. Though the Republicans and Democrats continue to dominate the political scene, the left-wing Progressives, right-wing Libertarians and moderate Centrists are becoming forces to be reckoned with. Progressives and Centrists are chipping away at Democratic seats in the North and the West while the Libertarians are taking away Republican votes in the South. While Republicans and Democrats are mainstream center-right and center-left parties respectively, the other three parties have been slowly building up to this pivotal moment. The results of the election will clearly mean that for there to be a ruling majority, there must be a coalition in Congress to make sure anything can get through the legislature. Democrats currently hold the House of Representatives 132-113 and the Senate 25-14. Republicans, before this point, were projected to win the House with 130 seats to 115 for the Democrats, and gain two seats in the Senate, 23-16. Now, with the Progressives, Centrists and Libertarians involved, the predicted House and Senate look like this: HOUSE: Republicans 93, Democrats 78, Centrists 35, Libertarians 20, Progressives 19 SENATE: Democrats 13, Republicans 8, Progressives 7, Centrists 6, Libertarians 5 Edited by Anakinexi, Dec 31 2013, 06:50 PM.

The Times of Angleterre ELECTION EDITION The Only Official Global Publication of the United States of Angleterre The United States of Angleterre has just concluded its latest Congressional mid-term election, and it was very interesting to call. Early in the cycle, it appeared as if the Democrats were going to hold on to power in both houses of Congress, but after only two months of campaigning, they lost their advantage as new third parties rose to challenge them and the Republican Party. Here are the results in the House of Representatives: HOUSE: Republicans 79, Democrats 79, Centrists 31, Progressives 30, Libertarians 20, Independent 6 Analysis: The Republicans and Democrats have both tied in the House, ensuring that there are no majority single parties in the House. For there to be a working majority, there will have to be coalitions formed in the House to establish rules, and so forth. Early predictions show that if the parties go by ideology as it is expected that they would and if they went be the barebones ideas of ideology, then it would be Democrats/Progressives, 109, Republicans/Libertarians 99, Centrists 31, Independents 6. The Centrists and Independents do not have to be in the coalitions in order to affect House business, considering the Democrat/Progressive coalition would have a 10-seat majority. SENATE: Democrats 12, Republicans 9, Progressives 8, Centrists 6, Libertarians 4 Analysis: Democrats hold on to plurality in the Senate, so coalitions are not necessary in the upper chamber, although the Democrats may be interested in a coalition to strengthen their position in the majority, and also if Republicans seek to try and steal the majority with a coalition of their own. The Times of Angleterre Presidential Election Edition The Only Official Global Publication of the United States The upcoming United States Presidential Election has at least three candidates involved in it right now. Democrats, Republicans and Centrists have nominated their candidates, while Progressives and Libertarians still debate their course of action. Here's the latest. Candidates Gallery ![]() Senator William Howard Nash (Republican - State of Arreat) Senator Nash is one of the longest-serving senators in the U.S. today. He has served in the Senate since its inception in 274, representing Arreat and its people. He has a rather conservative voting record, but has been known to work with partisans from other parties to get the job done. Nash recently helped sure up limited Republican support for the President's recent economic agenda. In this campaign, Nash is running on his record primarily, and his ability to work across aisles to ensure things are done properly and in a timely manner. ![]() Senator James Flair (Democrat - State of Scosglen) James Flair was elected to the Senate from Scosglen in 310, and made an incredible mark as one of the more pragmatic liberal lawmakers of the body. Flair's record is mostly liberal, but much like Nash, is known as a well-established worker across aisles. Flair, however, has been incredibly critical of the President's policies, planning a reversal of many of them and moving toward a more leftist attitude. ![]() President Anakin Cain (Centrist, Incumbent - State of Anatolia) The President is looking to extend his presidency for an official term of his own. Taking in the support of Centrists and more moderate-leaning Democrats and Republicans, Cain is running on his record as president, including the added growth in both population and in the economy. Libertarians and Progressives have yet to either nominate a candidate, or support one of the three available candidates. So far, no polling has been released for the opening of the general campaign, but it is believed that President Cain is leading, Senator Nash second and Senator Flair third. The Times of Angleterre The Official Global Publication of the United States of Angleterre President Anakin Cain wins re-election TRISTRAM - The final votes certified and the 319 United States presidential election draws to a close. President Anakin Cain has officially won a second term as President of the United States. Out of a possible 30,213,392 votes, the President earned 52.1%, more than enough for a majority to avoid a run-off. Democratic presidential candidate Senator James Flair came in second, with 28.3% of the vote, while Republican presidential candidate Senator William Howard Nash won 18.6%, with approximately 1% going to mainly write-in candidates. Both senators congratulated the newly re-elected president on his victory, and pledged to gain support amongst their party members for the President's policies. President Cain never made a victory speech, as he was at the time of his re-election working on a new tax package. Anakin Cain becomes the third president to win a second term, joining Joseph Biden and William Regal in that column, and accomplished something his father, James Deckard Cain, did not accomplish. Cain also becomes the second president elected or re-elected without the backing of a major political party, joining his father. Edited by Anakinexi, Dec 31 2013, 06:49 PM.

The Times of Angleterre The Official Global Publication of the United States of Angleterre With growing alliances in Syntrael region, U.S. finds itself in precarious situation: Raynor TRISTRAM - The United States is finding itself in a very bad position, despite its growing economic and cultural power, said Secretary of State Christopher Raynor at a press conference at the State Department today. "The recent creation of the Syntraelite Alliance, which beneficial for the region, could be used as a threat to U.S. interests in the future if either side isn't careful," said the Secretary, referring to the regional power bloc that formed in the last weeks which includes regional powerhouses Mestra, Korada and Gallia. Raynor was careful to say that under no circumstances did the United States feel threatened or provoked by the alliances. "Nobody in this country is fearful of a big bad Syntraelite army marching on our borders," he said, "but I'd be lying if I didn't say that some are unnerved here at the recent turn of events." Indeed, U.S. investors are unnerved. It is believed GDP growth dropped almost 2/10's of a percent in 320 heading into 321, and is prompting a slight uptick in military spending by the Anakin Cain administration. Stocks in the Byzantium exchanged plummeted 200 points after the S.A. was officially created, and the U.S. specie became slightly weaker against Mestran and Gallian currencies. But now with rumors flying around of a possible "merge" between Mestra, Gallia and Korada, things could get even more tense in Syntrael. Secretary Raynor touched on that briefly in his remarks today, "Considering these are just rumors at the moment, it's hard to say what we think about that, but I can tell you this, if such a thing comes about, we are going to have some serious problems. Not militarily, but possibly politically." Harrogath, New Orleans to square off for USFL World Title NEW ORLEANS, Orleans - On May 6, 321, the United States Football League will crown its sixteenth World Champion when the Harrogath Barbarians take on the insurgent New Orleans Saints. The Barbarians, six-time World Champions, are widely believed to be the favorite. Harrogath is hoping to make a seventh title win possible after blowout victories over Connecticut, Byzantium and Caldeum in the playoffs. The Saints, on the other hand, have never been at a World Championship match and thus the likely underdog, and took two dominant victories out on Mar Sara and Tristram before squeaking out an overtime win over Xiansai City to earn a ticket to the World Title game. Editors' Pick: Barbarians 27-16 Fans' Pick: Saints 45-44 Edited by Anakinexi, Dec 31 2013, 06:48 PM.

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre "Get the 'Nova' Out!" says Congress TRISTRAM - According to a new bill passed by Congress today, the United States will officially drop the word "Nova" from the official name of the country. "Nova", which is Old Terran for "new", has been part of the official globally known name of the United States since the country's inception in 276. Now, almost 50 years later, Congress has decided it is time for the country to evolve once more. Senator William H. Nash (R-Arreat), the author of the "Get the 'Nova' Out" Act, said today, "It's time to unite the two wings of our nation's history, both the Veneris and Nova periods." Recent historical excavations made by the venerable Dr. John H. Watson spurred the creation of the bill which passed the Senate 42-6 and is expected to fly through the House of Representatives en route to President Anakin Cain's desk. New Orleans Saints - USFL Champions RICHMOND, Virginia - To the shock of millions across the country, and in an amazing display of resiliency and pure determination to win, the once-futile New Orleans Saints made history by winning the 320 USFL World Championship over the Harrogath Barbarians by a score of 52-46. Harrogath dominated the first half of the game, ending the first half leading New Orleans 28-3, with four big touchdown drives while the Saints managed only a meager field goal to at least get on the board. But in the second half of the game, the Saints displayed grit and determination rarely seen in most national sports leagues. After intercepting Barbarians QB Qual-Kehk Makron three times in the third quarter, the Saints turned two of those into touchdowns and then scored an offensive touchdown to pull a score of 28-24. Though Saints QB Zachary Dunn suffered an interception of his own to set the Barbarians up for another scoring drive, making it 35-24, New Orleans forced two straight three and outs against Harrogath before the fourth quarter began. The final quarter opened with Harrogath leading 40-24, after a quarter-ending score put the Barbarians up by 16. After that, it was all New Orleans pulling out all the stops, including two successful onside kicks that allowed the Saints offense to march down the field for 14 more points. The Barbarians managed two more field goals to end their scoring at 46-38 by the midway point of the fourth. The Saints responded by scoring 14 unanswered points by the end of the game to win it. With the win, the Saints secured their first World Championship, after making more firsts, including winning their first Eastern Conference title, winning their Eastern Omega division for the first time, and securing a first-round bye and home-field advantage. The Barbarians, missing out on their seventh World Championship, did win their seventh Western Conference title, and fifteenth Western Beta title, along with a first-round bye and home-field advantage. |

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre BREAKING: Harrogath wins 322 Winter Games The Oracian Winter Games Host Committee has released the decision of its members on which of three cities is to host the 322 Oracian Winter Games. They chose Harrogath, Arreat. Harrogath was one of three cities, along with Nin'Kutcha, Jandrea and Queen Anne, Millerainia to place bids to host the Games. The capital of Arreat received votes from 8 members, while Queen Anne received 6 and Nin'Kutcha received 5. The news was met with great joy across the country as millions celebrated the fact that a city in their country overcame two established and well-known cities from countries regarded as world powers. President Anakin Cain hailed the decision as monumental. "This decision... marks the arrival of Angleterre to a truly global stage." |

The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre BREAKING: Mistake made by Winter Games committee looks to ruin Harrogath's chances to host Winter Games HARROGATH, Arreat - The Oracian Winter Games Host Committee appears to have a made a big mistake. According to reports filing in from the headquarters of the Harrogath Winter Games Host Bid Committee, the Host Committee closed their polling too early, preventing late-coming members from voting. This oversight has led the late-coming members to vote against the original decision and go a different way, allowing Queen Anne, Millerainia to overtake Harrogath by 1 vote. Polling closes later tonight. The recent breaking news has incensed the city of Harrogath. Mayor Bul-Kathos Thedirson released a statement saying, "This mistake is one that is going to have major effects on Harrogath. Negative effects." President Anakin Cain denounced the vote, calling it a "sham and a travesty for such a body to screw over the United States." He went on by announcing that the United States is going to boycott the Winter Games, including not allowing the games to air on U.S. television networks, the first time such a decision has been levied. The President has sent a strongly-worded letter to the new chairman of the International Oracian Olympiad Committee in Cias, Mestra voicing his displeasure and the collective anger of the Angleterran people that the city of Harrogath's bid was, in some observers' opinions, deliberately sabotaged to favor a more well-known country and to keep Angleterre down. Cain did not, however, rule out an attempt to make a bid for the Summer Olympics forthcoming, in which it is believed either Xiansai City or New Orleans will be the city to make the bid. The Times of Angleterre The Official News Publication of the United States of Angleterre President clarifies reasoning for Winter Games boycott TRISTRAM - President Anakin Cain held a second news conference in as many days, this time to clarify why the United States was boycotting the 322 Oracian Winter Games, now due to be held in Queen Anne, Millerainia. Cain clarified that the boycott was not because Queen Anne was chosen as the host city, but because the process for selecting the host city was mired in controversy, which was enough to deny Harrogath, Arreat the chance to host the Games. "This decision has nothing to do with Millerainia at all. We have nothing against them. It's the new IOOC that will be dealing with us, not the government of Millerainia." said the President regarding the issue. Cain has taken some criticism for what some would say were over-reactive steps in ensuring the boycott was fully implemented, such as banning U.S. media outlets from showing or reporting on the Games. "That was probably an overreach, I agree. But, let's think this through. We're not sending a team there. What would be the point in showing the Games on our televisions?" He went on to say, "I'm not willing to let this damage our relations with the IOOC or with Millerainia. This is a one-time occurrence I'm sure." After being asked about the constant apologies from the Host Committee and the IOOC itself, the President said, "They were very sincere. I can't say that I'm completely satisfied but it's enough to calm myself down and I hope it calms the rest of the country down." Then a question popped from out of nowhere that apparently took the President by surprise. Reporter: "Is there any sort of course of action or immediate action that the IOOC could come up with that would make you change your mind about the boycott?" President Cain: ".... ummm... I don't know. That's up to them if they want to do something. I'm not asking for anything, so I don't expect anything to come of it." |
