Monroe Republic August, 2014 Nysan
Independence, Monroe Republic Present Day "They want what?" Sebastian Monroe, elected Dictator and founder of the Monroe Republic, calmly asked his advisor. "Let me review the situation." General David Georgescu, Monroe Defense Minister, placed the folder onto the Dictator's desk and opened it, flipping through pages as he explained. "President Amanda Falsey, of what is left of the Republic of Battlion, has massed a sizable amount forces near our south-eastern border. Her official excuse for this is that she fears aggression from our nation, a, I quote, 'barbarian communist dictatorship, ruled by a warmongering, power hungry mad man'. At the same time, she has issued a warning to us to 'return to a system of democracy, or face severe consequences'. Gunboat diplomacy at its finest, I'd say." "Well, of course, by democracy, she really means laissez-faire capitalism. Since our adoption of the meritocratic system, the beleaguered citizens of this nation have more political rights than they ever had under the 'democratic' Battlionese administration. She seems to forget that libertarian capitalism is what brought Battlion to its knees and forced us to secede, or face starvation." "Damn it." responded Monroe. "What is the status on their military readiness?" "Well, Battlion is only a shadow of its former self. The disastrous policies of the Falsey administration have nearly bankrupted the nation. Nevertheless, they still possess considerable military power and are a significant threat to our national security. Their forces outnumber us by three to one and their military equipment is far more advanced than ours, as we have been forced to make do with whatever we could scavenge and the donations of other TA member nations. Also, we are unaware if they possess nuclear weapons, as our intelligence services haven't been able to provide any information on that." Monroe frowned. "So, we're outnumbered an outgunned. And this is all happening while our people is still trying to find its own national identity and cohesion. Our nation doesn't even have a proper name, damn it. We need to do something about this, otherwise everything we have been trying to do here, will simply fall apart under the tension, which I bet, is what Amanda Falsey is counting on. We need to set an example. The Monroe Republic, or whatever the people will choose to call it in the future, is here to stay. Despite our hardships, we will not be bullied by aggressive states. Contact our Carpathian allies and the rest of the TA. Inform them that the Monroe Republic intends to respond to this with force of arms." "But, sir! We're outmatched in every single way by Battlion! We wouldn't stand a chance!" "I know, David, but I am counting on our allies. We joined the Trilateral Alliance. Now its time the world knows that we are not alone." the dictator said. "Wouldn't this be an exaggerated response? We would be confirming Falsey's accusations that we are nothing more than warmongering barbarians!" "We can not let this go, General. They pushed us into a corner. Now, more than ever, the people of this country need to know that they can count on their leaders to protect them from foreign intrusion, be it political, economic or military, which is something that every previous administration has failed to do. We need to galvanize the people. We don't have a choice, old friend. We need to strike, otherwise we will appear weak in the eyes of our own people. And that would tear this country apart. I would rather have us be labeled as warmongers, than collapse in a civil war and anarchy. May whatever god is watching over us, forgive us for sending all those brave men and women of the Militia to die on a foreign battlefield." concluded Monroe.

Belgrade, Falsea General Secretary Louise Rourke, was, for once, inside of his presidential office in the Red Manor, instead of inside the many chambers of the National Party Headquarters. It was February 315, and Rourke was reviewing the latest reports on the status of Falsea's economy. With the boom of trade with regional neighbors, the country managed to maintain its fair rate of economic growth, and without succumbing to the pressures of capitalism no less. Stretching his arms upwards after he signed the paper handed to him by the National Economic Planning Commission, two light knocks were heard on the door to his office. A short "come in" was uttered by Rourke, and the door opened to reveal Lucille Fraser, one of the more influential women in the ruling party and also a member of the Central Military Committee. "Sir..", she began, her flowing blonde hair waving as she closed the door and sat in front of Rourke's desk. "..the results of the military vote to intervene in the Monroe-Battlion war have come in.", she said simply, handing to her superior an envelope with the red hammer and sickle seal of the party on it. Rourke's eyes widened. The antagonism between the Monroe Republic and Battlionese Democratic Republic have been a keen interest to him these past few days. The decline of Battlion has left a power vacuum in the Ardem stage, and it seemed as if the Allied States, through Monroe, would seize the opportunity. Of course, this would be in the best interests of the People's Republic and thus, Rourke had lobbied for the downfall of Battlion ever since they started mounting troops on their borders. Monroe's declaration would be the catalyst to this war just waiting to explode. After reading the results for a few minutes, he grabbed a pen loitering in his desk nearby, then a sheet of official-looking paper. "Sir?", inquired Fraser at the action. "It's time for a declaration. Been a long time since we supported our allies overseas.", he said with a smirk.

"HARRUMPH!" Rogerton Tallywacker Harrumphed loudly as he finished reading the missive from the Monroe Republic. He passed it to Plimbucket Fallyfellow and twirled his glorious mustache as he spoke. "Seems our fellow socialists have discovered their courage, about time! We should mobilize a expeditionary force with great haste!" Plimby looked at him, slightly annoyed. "Isn't half our army still in the Craigson territories?" "HUMPH! We have the other half, and it's not like we even need half the forces we have in the savage lands anyway. Give me the 4th army and I'll have those tossers kipped in the bud before dinner. The first fleet needs something to do anyway." "You can use the First Fleet but I'm not giving you the entire 4th army. Take the 2nd Corp and an Air Wing." "I...b-but.....humph.....you...." Rogerton blathered angrily. "Shut it, if I give an entire army you'll just start invading everything and declaring places colonies. Remember the South Nigeltowne incident?" "Harrumph!"

It was inevitable. Hostilities this close to its southern border, against one of its allies, was bound to provoke a violent reaction from the Allied States of Carpathia and Moldova. The message to the world was clear. Carpathia would not tolerate belligerence and capitalist imperialism so close to its border, right in its back yard. It was unclear what forces the Allied States will mobilize, but it was obvious that the Carpathians wouldn't simply stand by and watch, while the Monroe Republic would fight a war against a hostile regime. Amanda Falsey hoped to pressure the Monroe Republic and destabilize it through gunboat diplomacy. But her attempts had gone terribly wrong, as they underestimated the determination of the Monroe Republic and its allies. Now, there would be war. A war which will consume Battlion and erase it from the map. |
