Month Day, Year (OOC: Postponed for now) "Sir, you are mistaken. That isle rightfully belongs to Almadas as it always has. It has been with our nation for years and there is nothing you can do to change that reality," the Almadan ambassador said. "According to the Treaty of Bejamora in 257 RE, the island was to be ceded to the Confederation in the case that your nation was unable to repay the debts it owed our government. Well, since the treaty was signed there's been no debt repayment, so obviously you are in the wrong," retorted President Claudio Ezequiel. "That treaty was signed by a different government in a different time and has no effect on the current government." "Treaties are made between nations, not governments." For years - no, decades - the Imondan Confederation and the Republic of Almadas had been fighting, diplomatically of course, over a small bit of land. An island to the south of Almadas. It was uninhabited and had no natural resources, so the Confederation rarely pushed the issue to the Almadans, who had held de facto control over the isle. However, the young new president suddenly put renewed vigor into the argument. "Carlos, they insult us with that island. They rub it in our face that they have what is rightfully ours and think we will not do a thing about it!" the young president complained to his close friend, Vice President Carlos Duarte. "My friend, the island is worthless. No one lives there and it is barren and its strategical value isn't all that great." "But what will other nations think? They will look at this, as they most likely have been for years, and think that we are weak because we cannot deal with even those damned fools in Almadas! This must be dealt with." The president sighed, massaging his temples. "Alright," he said, "send out an order that the island is to be garrisoned by our troops and to build the appropriate facilities to accommodate them." "You know what this could mean, then?" "Yes." "It almost certainly will lead to conflict." "Yes, it may lead to war. It will be my war," Claudio said. A few days later Captain Benedito stood at the top of a ridge overlooking the partially-completed base shouting out orders to soldiers and workers whom were working in the construction. Suddenly explosions were happening all around the construction site as artillery shells rained from the skies. Men were blown away and apart as the construction site was shelled. Benedito ran for cover with several other men trying to escape the destruction. After several minutes, the explosions stopped and the captain and some other men gathered the courage to walk back to look at what was left. Bodies and pieces of debris covered the ground. "By Hadar..." someone said. "What happened?" another asked. "That was artillery fire," Captain Benedito said, "It must have been those damned Almadans. They will pay for this." Presidential Palace, Montevar "Mr. President, there's an urgent report for you here," a Presidential Guard said as he rushed into the room. Claudio took the paper handed to him and read it over. Widening his eyes, he handed the report to Carlos. The Vice President quickly looked it over, then read it again. "You know what this means," Claudio said. "There's no confirmation that it was indeed the Almadans." "Well who the hell else could it have been?" Claudio said. After a moment of silence, Claudio finally spoke. "Send word to the War Ministry. Mobilize the troops and deploy men near the Almadas border." |

A few months later The orders had been sent out and the reserves had been called up. The national armories had been opened up and the troops armed. The military was being redeployed to the border, and across that border Almadas was doing the same. Anti-air systems were being set up all along the border, though anti-air and anti-missile systems were being concentrated around strategic points in the Imondan lines. The skies were being constantly scanned for enemy aircraft and missiles and the border was being covered with patrols. "Sir, we have some movement on radar." Captain Benedito walked over to the radar operator. "What is it?" he said. "An aircraft coming from Almadas airspace." "Where's it headed?" "Looks like it's flying over the island, sir." Benedito grinned. It was time for revenge. They had killed his men on their own soil, now it was time for them to mourn." "Scramble a few Justices. Keep me updated." Benedito went to another operator. "Contact the Almadan government and demand they remove the aircraft from our skies." In the skies "This is Justice AZ-2. We have come within range of the Almadan aircraft and can confirm it is a Almadan military jet. How should we procede?" "AZ-2 the Almadan government has denied our demand to remove the aircraft from our skies, claiming they are not violating our airspace. We have no choice but to take action to remove it. You know what to do. Out." The pilot nodded to himself. This was it, he said to himself, They won't leave, so we have no other choice. The pilot locked on with his missiles, and fired two missiles at the plane. The Almadan plane tried to dodge the oncoming missile as one flew past the cockpit, but wasn't so lucky with the second missile. The plane plummeted towards the water in a ball of fire and debris. "This is AZ-2. The trespassing aircraft has gone down." |
