‘Ello ladies and gentlemen of Caprecia and Nysa, as well as our friends from abroad (Lines waves at the Alterrans and Commonwealthians). I stand before you today to deliver very SeriousBusiness. In the previous weeks, we’ve had a few tussles on the chat—tussles that could’ve, potentially, been averted with a little self-restraint on the part of those involved.

Regardless of the reasoning, the Forum Staff, composed of the Powers That Be and Hired Muscle (Lines waves at Blacaria), have found it fit to deliver a few “guidelines”, as it were, addressing conduct on the region chat system, as well as the Boards as a whole.

Now, let us start with general admonishments and/or brainwashing:

We are all friends here. Or we should be, at the least. We’re all here because we like to do the same thing—Roleplay—even if we have varying opinions on other subjects. We are also all humans (with the possible exceptions of Ikar, King, Svun and I), who have these things called “feelings”, which I hear are quite fragile. No one likes to have their “feelings” hurt, I know for a fact, so I do encourage you to think before you speak—make sure what's coming out of your abstract mouth isn’t dickish.

Let’s also recall that each one of us come from different backgrounds. Some of us are Arab, some of us are Asian, and some of us are American—either immigrant or "native". Others are African, Canadian, European, or from those silly little places that can be stuffed under “Oceania”. We’re Atheists, Agnostics, Christians, Muslims—maybe even Buddhists, Hindis, Pagan—what have you. Some of are even, gasp!, homosexual (or asexual, or bisexual; or hermaphrodites or transgender). This grand diversity means we’ve all varying opinions, and little quirks, and things that will outright piss us off. Though frankly, considering this is the Internet, we should each also have a thick-enough skin to tolerate some unpleasantries.

This does not, however, mean that we can or should utter potentially inflammatory statements—be it classy, crude, or vaguely humorous. Hate speech, regardless of what it is aimed it, will not be tolerated. If it’s your opinion that some group deserves death, or that some group is beneath you in some way, or any sort of dehumanizing comment, keep it to yourself; the Forum Staff will no longer call it a day after a firm talking to, we will now begin handing out warnings for distasteful conduct.

Personal attacks will also, obviously, not be tolerated. If you have a problem with someone, don’t RP with them. Ignore them outright even, if you prefer. If you feel potential issues could surface, inform the staff so they can take cautionary measures. We’re here to help you as much as to police you, after all; we’re the folk you should be turning to if you have problems on the Boards.

Now, we’re not saying opinions and debates or discussion will be banned. We’re saying to keep your public opinions humane and your arguments respectful. If you—both sides—can maintain a calm and orderly posture, and maintain an appropriate and civilized discussion, the Forum Staff will allow it (on both the chat and the forum). However, the moment a debate descends into barking and growling and streams of heated obscenities, with cap locks making grand shows and rage split all over the floor, it will be shut down. If it continues, bans from the chat may be delivered. If it worsens, further action is on the table.

Nobody wants that, however. Sometimes, even I’m eager to hear (and be enlightened by!) the exchange of words that transpire on the chat. But I’m afraid that between order on the Boards and my personal amusement, the previous takes priority.

So, be kind to each other. Be respectful. Don’t insult someone just because you don’t like—or worse: don’t understand—their life, situation, or ways. Rather than using it as an opportunity to take petty slights, why don’t you use it as an opportunity to expand your horizons?

In closing, actual dos and don’ts will follow eventually.

Let me just add to this.

If anybody feels as though they have been mistreated or abused by any member, please either contact myself, Lines, Ikar, King or Blacaria about your issue. If you wish it to be confidential as well, let that particular staff member know. Don't be a afraid to approach any of us if you have concern or if you feel you are being bullied or mistreated on this forum, we want to ensure the role play environment is pleasant for everybody here.

Please take into mind as well, while there are Caprecian and Nysan administrators and staff, we're all responsible for keeping this forum in check for all members, so feel free to contact either of us.

As mentioned in the Forum Etiquette Announcement a few days earlier, here are some additional points on forum on maintaining an appropriate atmosphere on the forums:

  • Be nice.
  • Respect boundaries.

Pretty straightforward, right? Don’t be a jerk, and there won’t be issues.

Additionally, warnings are being brought back as a think. For this purpose we have reviewed, tweaked, and updated the old “Warning Guidelines” that the Administration may or may not have forgotten even existed.

Warnings: Basics
  • Spamming: 1 Warning per spam post
  • Plagiarism: 1 Warning per confirmed act
  • Attack/Flaming: 1 Warning per act

The Warning Admin/Mod should also send you a warning concerning why they warned you.

Warnings: Escalations
  • 1st Warning (Warn Level: 25%): no additional action will be taken, aside from a stern talking to from the Administration and a link to this post.
  • 2nd Warning (Warn Level: 50%): no additional action will be taken, aside from a sterner talking to from the Administration and a link to this post.
  • 3rd Warning (Warn Level: 75%): you will be placed on under Moderator Approval/ModQueue for a week.
  • 4th Warning (Warn Level: 100%): you will be banned for a week.
  • 5th Warning (Warn Level: 125%): if you're conduct doesn't improve after your 4th ban, you will be banned for a month amidst a probation period.
  • 6th Warning {Warn Level: 150%): if you're still trouble, perma-banned.

Yuppers. You are given two soft warnings, before the Forum Staff starts taking harder action. Moderator Approval is bane—you do not want it. It’ll interrupt your RPing, especially if you are active. Similar goes for a ban—you will be banned from both the forum and the chat for that period of time.

Now, what constitutes Spam?
Meaningless posts that serve no positive meaning. Many a moons ago a disgruntled member spammed the forums in an effort to take a jab at an admin. We do not want this repeated.

What constitutes Plagiarism?
This regulation was created because someone once copied and posted a real person’s suicide note. Very unpleasant. Additionally, it’s aimed at preventing raw-copying of another member’s RPs and work and calling it one’s own. Shaky ground, we are aware; but, honestly, we don’t expect to hand out warnings on these grounds.

What Constitutes an Attack/Flaming?
Personal insults or petty jabs directly at another forum member—be it a member of the Staff or not—do. So does provoking another person to start shite themselves. Such activity will not be tolerated, and you are liable to be warned based on the contents of your post.

Will these regulations be enforced on the Chat?
Yes. You can, and will, be given a warning on the forums for spamming the Chat. Similarly, you can and will be given a warning for attacking, insulting, or otherwise unreasonably offending another member.

But what if it was a joke?
Attacking, flaming, and spamming will not be tolerated. Jokes and personal attacks are subjective, most often on the person the “joke” was aimed at. Their opinion will be taken into consideration.
