Millerainia Leaves DU, Pledges Neutrality![]() Citizens protest Millerainian membership in Democratic Union in Iron Hollow MARINETTE FALLS- Today Millerainia's representatives officially left the Democratic Union (DU) HQ in Halvadag, Länlania, marking the end of Millerainia's membership in the trans-regional alliance. The Democratic Union is an alliance that strives for the protection of freedom and democracy worldwide. The way that it pursues this is through military power. The Democratic Union has a very large amount of military might, and Millerainia was a top contributor of the force of the DU. Millerainia paid higher than many member nations with it's large military. Millerainia was also the overseer of Aureterra to promote democracy. Millerainians, who have previously supported neutrality, soon became angered in the nation's membership in the military alliance. MNN did a survey in January, and it concluded that 7 out of 10 people do not support Millerainia's involvement in the DU. The DU also became increasingly hostile to the communist alliance, the Trilateral Alliance (TA). Citizens of Millerainia do not support war, especially with potential markets for business. Many middle-class citizens protested against the government's DU membership, claiming it was denying Millerainia overseas markets, regardless of their political leaning. In downtown Marinette Falls, citizens protested outside of the Executive Ministry on Avenue of Aureterra. They held signs saying "Down the DU" and "Free Millerainia From Military Binds". Through social media, similar protests began in cities all across Millerainia, notably Iron Hollow where police had to deploy the riot squad to Lakefront Park where there were thousands of protesters. Iron Hollow resident, and protesting car saleswoman Lisa Johnston explained that "We [the people of Millerainia] don't want to have to worry about any nation attacking us, just because we are part of a military alliance that's supposed to 'spread freedom.' All they want to do is kill people in the name of freedom, and that is something Millerainia should not be part of." Similar responses were heard, as well as many mentioning the prospect of lost business. "I own an international software company that I run with my best friend. We have business with Falsea, Carpathia as well as some other communist nations in the TA. We do not want to lose this business, it would financially ruin us. " -Jack Harper, the owner of a software company in Wildbourne, Lawrentka. Following pressure from citizens, members of the Lower and Upper Houses of Parliament voted in majority of leaving the Democratic Union. The passed bills were sent to Prime Minister Patrick Baker, whose approval ratings were at stake. He approved and signed the act, and Millerainia officially left the Democratic Union. After the passage of the "Leave Democratic Union Act", Parliament passed a bill proclaiming Millerainian neutrality in military conflicts that do not infringe on Millerainia's self interests and sovereignty. This was too signed by the Prime Minister. Millerainia has returned to a state of neutrality and it is expected to refrain from joining any more international military alliances during the term of this Prime Minister, who is up for reelection this year. The leaders of the Democratic Union are ambivalent to Millerainia's leave, while they lost a major military power in their alliance. Edited by Millerainia, Jun 30 2013, 03:29 PM.

Millerainia Opens First Deepwater Oil Drilling Site ![]() HARBOR TOWN- Today, the Millerainian oil company, Evolve Petroleum Corporation (EPC) along with the Millerainian Coast Authority officially opened Millerainia's first deepwater oil drilling site in the newly discovered oil-rich Aurre Gulf. The oil, discovered in early 312, has sat undeveloped up until now, as it faced problems getting permission from Enviro-Mill to build an off-shore location that potentially could disturb ocean habitat. The location of the oil rig could not be decided, but its current location confirmed is approximately 10 miles off shore of east-coast city Harbor Town. Evolve Petroleum Corporation was among the hundred of companies that applied to build the oil-extracting rig, and beat out all other competition as the first-trail of the technology. The company is one of the largest in Millerainia and is registered out of the state of Montdell. Special permits were created to allow the deepwater drilling by Evolve. This is expected to cause further economic growth to the already economic superhouse economy Millerainia is currently experiencing. This oil will be used domestically, but it is suggested that Millerainia will export this to turn a profit in overseas markets. "Oil prices are expected to lower in Millerainia and gasoline will be at it's lowest in a decade!" predicts economist Haley Bonneville. Prime Minister Patrick Baker stated that this economic development is a step to further success and prosperity for the Millerainian people. Evolve will begin extracting oil as soon as early next week, after passing mandatory Enviro-Mill environment requirements, as well as Ministry of Labor requirements. The rigs will employ approximately 70 jobs, including in delivery and storage facilities on-shore. |

Prime Minister's Wife Reveals Health Concerns![]() Rachel Baker and Prime Minister Patrick Baker MARINTTE FALLS- Rachel Baker, husband of current Prime Minister Patrick Baker reveals the true reasoning behind the Prime Minister's choice to not run as the incumbent in this year's Executive Ministry elections. Rachel, while wiping away a tear, informed MNN that the Prime Minister has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The Prime Minister was diagnosed with the common male cancer in April, but kept it among only his closest family members and friends. It was discovered after a CT scan for the Prime Minister's hip replacement. Prostate cancer is the leading cancer of men in Millerainia as well as in most of the developed world. Rachel has confirmed that he has started the process of chemotherapy to eliminate the cancer cells. Prime Minister Baker will soon be losing all of his hair as a result of the chemicals. While PM Baker will not have to worry about health coverage, as he receives premium medical care paid for by the Ministry of Health, Rachel Baker stated that they are willing to pay for promotional campaigns to let men across Millerainia know that they are at risk for this common cancer. Rachel Baker believes that her husband can beat the cancer. Laughing, she said, "They don't call him the Stone Prime Minister for nothing!" Rachel also asked the country to pray for the Prime Minister, to ensure of a successful recovery. The Prime Minister will be working shortened hours for the remainder of his term, as his treatments make him very tired and sick. He will not be running for the Prime Ministry position again this year. He has given his support to his Foreign Affairs Minister, David Mathewson. Speaking off-the-cuff about him, The Prime Minister stated, "David is one of the most honest, hard-working and generous men I know. He has bought coffee for all of the Foreign Affairs office once a month. He is a modest man, and I give him my full support and blessing for this election season." |

BREAKING NEWS: Mt. Cook Residents Asked to Evacuate In Preparation For Possible Volcanic Eruption ![]() MT COOK, Montdell- Mt. Cook, Montdell is located at the foot of a large composite volcano that shares the same name as the small town. It has been dormant for over 300 years. At approximately 2:00 am last Wednesday, the small mountain Montdell town of Mt. Cook shook awake the sleepy town with a great force that only Mother Nature could provide, an earthquake. The Ministry of Emergency Response (MER) issued an "Alert" level for Wilkins County, Montdell, to be on alert of possible danger and to review all evacuation procedures in event of an emergency event. MER told residents that it would be testing the area if it was endanger of any serious geologic events. The residents of the picturesque city of Mt. Cook continued with their daily lives: children in school, parents went to work, and stores remained open. The morning coffee at Ma's Hometown Diner was as hot as it usually is. The day, progressed without any significant signs that the earthquake was more than an earthquake. Monday, a couple was found boiled alive in the town's famous healing hot springs. Local officials called in a Ministry of Emergency Response team to investigate. They found that the water was extremely over the temperature that humans can sustain. This was a result of the magma below the spring, which heats it, that got extremely close to the spring's floor. The team of experts also noticed local plants and trees began to die, which is a sign of increased volcanic activity. MER began testing the tap and river water, and taking soil samples. These all came back to be alarmingly more acidic, containing sulphur and MER then shut down water to the town and told residents to live off of bottled water. Many animals have also been found dead in the area, which has been a warning sign for volcanic activity before. MER called a town meeting to explain what was happening to the city. The meeting was scheduled for 8pm Thursday. At the meeting, MER Montdell District Response Manager Johnathan Brients explained to disbelieving locals that the volcano where there town sat underneath, was getting ready for one of the most explosive eruptions in Millerainia history. Brients suggested a voluntary evacuation as a precaution. Some of the town is heading this warning. This has created a huge rush of vehicles getting onto the town's only national road, the freeway A-90 which leads toward the refugee camps already set up in Mt. Teresa, some 55 kilometers East from Mt. Cook. A drive that would normally take a little over an hour, has been reported to take 4 hours. The Transportation Authority will be opening up the westbound side of the freeway to eastbound traffic to Mt. Teresa. Some residents refuse to believe that a dormant volcano would ever erupt after so many years of peace. Town resident, Ruth Hastings told MNN that "I am not leaving! This mountain hasn't hurt me before, and won't hurt me now. All of this is created so that the large cities will get tourism instead of the small towns that really need it like Mt. Cook. All a load of ]-explicit content--! Damn MER! I don't believe it for a second." MER is urging residents to heed the warnings and take this geologic event seriously. MER spokeswoman Alissa Balder stated that "[MER] does not want disasters to happen, but we must be ready if one should occur, and currently Mt. Cook is showing all tell-tale signs of blowing." Locals have again been asked to attend an information session hosted by MER, to persuade them to leave before mandatory evacuation. The town residents are reluctant to do so, as they see that leaving would cost the town not only it's reputation of a tourist destination, but millions of Metros in profits. We will be keeping you updated on this story as it progresses. Edited by Millerainia, Mar 17 2014, 04:25 AM.

BREAKING NEWS: Mt. Cook Suddenly Erupts With Residents Still Occupying Town ![]() MT. COOK- Just as residents breathed a sigh of relief that their dormant volcano would not explode, Mt. Cook surprised the town during an informational meeting on the continued geologic danger that the Ministry of Emergency Response (MER) had warned about. At approximately 8 pm tonight Mt. Cook, a large composite volcano in Wilkins County, Montdell, decided to blow it's top. The people of the small city of Mt. Cook were caught off-guard, many of them not believing any risk of eruption. City officials tell MNN that a confirmed 5,504 were registered as refusing to evacuate the city during the voluntary evacuation period, which has lasted 5 days to date. Wilkins County confirms that an additional 590 refuse outside of Mt. Cook city limits. At the time of the initial eruption, a crowd of 2,000 gathered in Wilkins County High School gymnasium to hear vulcanologist Eric Bowing and MER District Response Manager Johnathan Brients discuss the dangers of continued occupation, citing the explosiveness of composite mountains like Mt. Cook. A team of MER experts, including vulcanologists, and geologists have been studying the Mt. Cook area to analyze the possibility of eruption. They have tested everything from the water, to the soil. The small city has experienced several small earthquakes, increasing in strength since the first one on Wednesday. When the volcano finally started its reign of terror, the town experienced its strongest earthquake to date, a 6.7 on the Richter Scale. Then visible smoke could be seen from the top of the mountain, as the sky grew darker. This caused a mass-panic and several people were trampled to death trying to escape through the crowded gymnasium. Then the panic continued outside, as scared residents tried to pack all they could into their vehicles. Many tried to escape using A-90 freeway, but the raised highway was not structurally sound after the earthquake and collapsed, killing several people in their vehicles and thus causing many to be stranded going the wrong way. The only other exit out of town is a small bridge on Montdell Route 2, which has been graded "At Risk" by the Transportation Authority for 3 years running. The city failed to repair the aging infrastructure. Montdell Route 2 leads up down toward Wontauksa, in the Asuta Metro Area. MER ordered a mandatory evacuation of citizens, and the Millerainian Home-Front Guard was deployed to assist. They drove in with multiple military trucks and jeeps, helping stranded citizens without cars. The majority of citizens were evacuated within the hour, with many still evacuating in the next half hour. Almost all were evacuated out of the city, other than the Home-Front Guard, Wilkins County Sheriffs, and MER officials and scientists when the mountain started to show it's true colors. Everyone immediately evacuated when the Lake Lallie Dam burst with the lahar (volcanic mudslide) created by the eruption. As the vehicles crossed the bridge, the bridge started to give way. This resulted in the death of famous vulcanologists Lisa and Troy Bellsburn, who died when the bridge was taken away by the lahar. Once safely across the river, the volcano really exploded. As soon as it did, a huge pyroclastic cloud destroyed what was left of the city. Fatalities are expected to be up to at least 65, but most people were safely evacuated before the volcano truly tore apart the city. It is not expected that all the dead will be identified or even found. The Wilkins County Sheriffs Dept. has confirmed the deaths of at least 53 citizens who signed a release form, accepting all responsibility of their deaths during the mandatory evacuation, including outspoken citizen Ruth Hastings, who spoke to MNN on July 27th. Refugee camps have been set up in nearby towns of Maeville, Ft. Henrietta and Mt. Teresa. There is no word on the estimated damage of the volcano, but it is expected to be in the billions of Metros. ![]() Mt. Cook before the eruption Edited by Millerainia, Mar 9 2014, 05:28 PM.

Impact of Mt. Cook Eruption![]() MT COOK- Just a few short days ago has felt like a lifetime for Mt. Cook residents who have lost their entire city, including homes, businesses, personal belongings, pets and property. Other than the immediate damage to families of the natural tragedy, these families are struck with financial disaster, loss of place, psychological issues as well as many assorted issues that need to be addressed. Financially, some of the residents of Mt. Cook are ruined, especially those who did not take out volcano insurance. Many invested their savings in the Mt. Cook Citizen's Bank, which has been completely destroyed, along with hundreds of thousands of metros in the banks' vaults, which were stored in a secure facility somewhere in the Mt. Cook region. The bank released a statement apologizing for the loss, and promising to apply for compensation from the Millerainian government. Many regional and national banks in the area have made similar statements. While they wait for approval, residents are left without money. For residents who did not keep their money in banks or invested it in property, their assets are completely lost. The impact of the disaster also affects the residents psychologically. They saw everything they knew, completely destroyed. Many have been glued to television screens in the refugee settlements in Maeville, Ft. Henrietta and Mt. Teresa, looking for any sign of remains of their houses. Residents have not been allowed to visit their property, to see if any remains are left, as MER has closed off everything in a 20 mile radius of the volcano to anyone besides scientist, experts and emergency personal. Many refugees have been seen by psychologists, and a majority are still experiencing a level of shock and some are experiencing a post-traumatic stress disorder. MER as well as local authorities have been working non-stop to check for trapped or missing people in the area. The area was famous for campers as well, so it is still unknown what the official death toll has been, but at least 59 deaths have been confirmed by local authorities and families. This does not include the thousands of domesticated and wild animals that lost their lives as well. Currently, residents who survived the deadly eruption are staying in various places in Maeville, Ft. Henrietta and Mt. Teresa, including local high school gyms, arenas and public buildings. MER has promised refugee trailer parks to be set up in the next few days. MER has been trying as hard as it can to provide emergency relief, and has received billions of dollars from the government after Prime Minister Patrick Baker declared the 20 mile radius of the volcano a State of Emergency, which makes it eligible for emergency aid from MER. The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Infrastructure will also be allocating resources to assist. The Ministry of Health is stationed at every refugee location, bringing in temporary clinics to assist any injured, to relieve the already overfilled local hospitals. Nationally, the disaster affected travel on roads, trains and planes. All of Millerainia was declared a No-Fly Zone as soon as the eruption occurred so hundreds of flights were immediately disrupted, and there is still no flights as the volcano still smokes. Ash has spread across the region, with places as far as Wildbourne, Lawrentka seeing trace amounts of volcanic ash. The earthquakes from the volcano shook the large cities of Bluecastle and Asuta, as they are somewhat close to the volcano in the district Montdell. Residents were surprised to find out that it was in fact a volcanic eruption and then soon had a light dusting of volcanic ash. A relief fund is being set up by the Ministry of Health and Bank of Millerainia. MOH and the Bank of Millerainia encourage Millerainians as well as foreign nationals to donate to assist the over 16 thousand residents displaced by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Cook. UPDATE Leaders of several nations have extended their condolences to Millerainia and offered aid packages to assist in the cleanup and rehabilitation of the area, as well as the citizens affected. Hahklallah has donated 5.5 million Metros worth of aid to the State of Millerainia. "Our hearts and minds are with the people of Millerania, we hope those affected by this horrible event are able to recover swiftly, and we will provide any aid nessecary." -Premier Nikolai Truschkov President Kalanit Tzita of Avelhol had this to say, "We feel for our Millerainina brothers and sisters, so we will be donated all we can. God bless the people of Avelhol and Millerainia, may we prosper." Edited by Millerainia, Aug 4 2013, 06:23 PM.

BREAKING NEWS: Common House Denies Millerainia's Application to Join Myrovian Alliance ![]() Parliament Bldg in Marinette Falls MARINETTE FALLS-A few weeks after Prime Minister David Mathewson presented a bill to the Senate, which would allow Millerainia to join the Myrovian Alliance out of Cordillera, it was squashed in the Commons House, the lower house of Millerainia's bicameral parliament. The Myrovian Alliance was an alliance created to make economic transactions between some nations easier. It was co-written by Cordilleran, Sovreignty and Millerainian executive officials, including Prime Minister David Mathewson. The alliance has steadily lost members since it's creation, as many groups have targeted the alliance for being over-controlling and monopolistic. Many Ardem nations found the alliance as a threat to their economies and livelihood. Some Communist nations felt threatened as well. Carpathia and Moldova specifically called out on the threat of Cordillera as well as convicting the leader in a Carpathian court of law, for which she was not present, of multiple crimes. With the rest of the world turning the "evil eye" to the Myrovian Alliance, Millerainian businesses feared embargoes and halted international business. Many Millerainians called representatives in the Commons House and spoke their complaints. A protest started late Wednesday and lasted until the Common House announced their decision. Today, the Commons House voted against the application to join the Myrovian Alliance 78-28. Speakers in the House believed that due to the rising fear in the world, and possible loss of business, that joining the Myrovian Alliance would hurt Millerainia's international relations than help them. It is not expected that the Common House will accept under any other circumstances, and because it barely passed the Senate, it is not expected that they will try to apply again. Erina Isle President Ryueng announced today that pending Millerainia's decision, Erina Isle will not be joining the alliance either. The Republic of Avelhol Prime Minister Kalanit Tzita declared Avelhol's membership as void last week when requested by the legislative branch of their government. Avelhol will be changing direction and trying to negotiate an Ardem economic alliance. |

Prime Minister Unveils Plans To Combat Failing Schools ![]() IRON HOLLOW-Today Prime Minister David Mathewson unveiled his plan to fix the surprising number of failing schools in the nation's three largest cities, Iron Hollow, Marinette Falls, and Ariena. Standing in the auditorium of Westbay High School in Iron Hollow city limits, Mathewson called for change.
This is the first action the Prime Minister has taken on the long-needed topic of education in our inner-cities. Many applaud the Prime Minister for taking such a stance, but some believe that the change won't help the poor. They believe that this will only hurt the poor, who need their children to work instead of attend school. And the fines have been cited as being "crushing" to the families who will have to endure them if they do not know where their children are (i.e. runaways). It is likely concessions and changes to the bill brought to Parliament will be made. |

Millerainia Celebrates History Day![]() Prime Minister David Mathewson (right) and his wife Jane (left) dress up at am old Southern Millerainia Sheriff and famous writer and bird enthusiast Lana Butte, respectively, for History Day MARINETTE FALLS- All over Millerainia, people celebrated the first day of Millerainia's quirky holiday, History Days. History Days was created in the early 250s as a way to promote Millerainian pride and knowledge of national history. It has since developed into a holiday that rivals the celebration of Halloween in other nations. It is a two day festival that commemorates Millerainia's greatest historical figures. Most cities have a festival, where booths are set up to commemorate certain people, events or time periods in local and national history. On the night of the second day of History Days, children go "fact-spreading" (similar to other nations' 'trick or treating') where children go around collecting candy from houses in the neighborhood in exchange for a short report of their historical figure to the candy-giver. It is seen by the government as a great way to encourage learning and the love of history. Other festivities include parties, charities, and free speakers, concerts and Spring activities, since it is currently Spring in Millerainia. History Days is not only for children, many adults participate in the fun. Some workplaces encourage celebration of the holiday, and the days are a popular time for sales at thrift stores. Most government employees are allowed to leave early from work to celebrate with their families. History Days is often a favorite holiday of Millerainians and is seen worldwide as one of Oracia's strangest holidays. |
