The Kubanizan people have lived in East Uroca since any post-Great Winter records can show. It is widely believed that they inhabited the western stretches of East Uroca before the Great Winter. Emerging from their nuclear bunkers, the Kubanizan people lived largely separate of each other for many decades. Then, for unknown reasons, many rallied behind the hetman of Bukanya, a prosperous settlement along the Beluna River in the Tavis Mountains. Historians have come up with various reasons behind this sudden unification and centralization; including the rise of Medavean and Länlanian kings in the east, or possibly mass famine and drought.

Vasily Bukanko, the hetman of Bukanya, declared himself hetman of the Kubanizan nation. However, his control over all the Kubanizan people was in name only. Though he himself would never achieve any great military feats, his accumulation of political and social power around himself made it possible for his successors to successfully build a united Kubaniza.

The first of Vasily’s successors, his son Dmytro, was an exceptional general. He directed, and in many cases personally led, the conquest of much land to the north of modern day Dnaino and Khapuz, up to Luna Bay and the Urocan Strait and the Sokihiv Islands. The Kubanizan groups he had conquered were impressed with his military prowess and leadership, and remained loyal to him.

The next hetman, Bohdan, turned his attention to the eastern frontier, wishing to expand into the mountainous center of East Uroca. He directed the Kubanizan armies eastwards and ran into conflict with the Medavean kingdom, as the Medlav peoples had been united by a conquering race of Aemerions. After a few years of conflict, the two nations agreed to a peace and establishment of a border between them (one which holds to this day).

After Bohdan’s death, the short-lived reign of his son Samiylo saw a period of peace and growth. Hetman Samilyo was mostly concerned with internal affairs, however did make a few minor treaties with the Aemerion kingdom of Medaveii.

Samiylo fell ill and died only 7 years into his reign. His uncle Pavlo, an experienced general in the hetman’s army and younger brother to Bohdan, ascended to the throne as Samiylo had no sons of his own. The first few years of his reign saw a continuation of the peace that defined Samiylo’s reign; however that peace was shattered by the Kuban-Danuporian War.

Sometime before, a Lӓnlanian commander invaded the area from modern-day Ichamur and established his own kingdom with the capitol at Danupor. The local href, with his eyes greedily cast towards the Danuporian lands, silently encouraged Kuban groups to move across the border and settle in Danuporian territory. When the king of Danupor reacted by sending troops to forcibly remove the trespassers, the Kubanizan href went to the hetman to declare that the Danuporians were illegally and forcibly expelling peaceful Kuban settlers. The hetman, as the self-proclaimed Protector of the Kuban People, sent an ultimatum to the Lӓnlanian king in Danupor to end his persecution of the Kubans. When he refused, insisting that they were illegal trespassers, Hetman Pavlo declared war and marched towards Danupor with his army.

When he heard of the incoming Kubanizan army, the king immediately gathered his own, fielding an army of 68,000—mostly Danuporian infantry augmented with mercenary archer companies. When Pavlo arrived to the Danuporian border, he had a force of 31,000 notorious Kuban horsemen. Despite the 2:1 advantage of the Danuporians, Pavlo was determined to meet in battle.

The Battle of Danupor proved to be a crushing defeat for the Danuporians. The Kubanizan cavalry was faster and more mobile. Pavlo’s clever use of horse archers and light cavalry led to the almost complete destruction of the enemy host. The king himself was captured during the battle, and with his army shattered the rest of his kingdom fell soon thereafter.
