Tyrian History Overview Prior to the Great Winter and the Second Great War, most of modern day Tyras was part of the Republic of Magilan. At the time, Tyras was known as the Province of Pheidas. With the allure of the natural beauty of the isles to tourists, the petroleum underlying the Sovren, and the precious metals in the Maradon Alps, Pheidas was the core of the Magilani economy. What is now the modern city of Korinthos was its primary economic hub. Pheidas became the focus of the Verenburgian campaign against the Magilani and Korinthos would be the target of one of their nuclear attacks. Tyras was perhaps the hardest hit region of in the Zaroca region during the war, sustaining the largest loss of life. The infrastructural damage wrought left comparatively little to salvage at the end of the Great Winter. Thus when the Age of Rebirth began, Tyras would get off to a poor start, which in part explains the Tyrric Union's current stature in modern times: A technologically backwards backwater with a population significantly lower than all other countries in the region. Until recently, Tyras as largely kept an isolation stance on foreign relations. Internal stability has been a major issue for the Tyrians in the post-Great Winter world. The Tyrian Brigade and the Tyrian Armed Forces The modern military of Tyras has an almost mythic aura surrounding it. As an organization, it has existed continously since the days of the Republic of Magilan, during which time it was a Magilani army infantry brigade. Officially the 10th Brigade Combat Team, it was a highly decorated and prestigious unit nicknamed the "Knights of Tyras" or, more commonly after the Second Great War, the "Tyrian Brigade." The name of the modern state of Tyras and its capital city of the same name originate from the Tyrian Brigade, which in turn got its name from the colonel who first led it upon the brigade's establishment. During the Second Great War, the Tyrian Brigade was part of the invasion forces in Zion. There they fought with distinction on the front lines of battle, taking part in the most significant battles of this theatre. At the nuclear holocaust, the Brigade was recalled back to Magilan as the Republic quickly began to fracture. As the nation quickly dissolved around it, the fraternal culture of the Brigade which it developed from the prestige it had earned prevented it from meeting a similar fate. They decided to preserve themselves as a military unit in the hopes of a Magilani rebirth after the nuclear winter had cleared. During most of the Great Winter, they were little more than a police force for the largest of the bunkers. When the Tyrians began returning to the surface, they were an extremely fracture people, broken up into what were essentially city-states centered around the major bunkers. Between the city-states was a lawless no-man's land occupied by various criminal organizations that preyed on those travelling between. It quickly became clear that the Republic of Magilan was gone for good, and that the Tyrian Brigade was now an army without a country. In a major change in mission, they set out to establish order in the anarchic land once called Pheidas. Having preserved both their military discipline and much of their weaponry, they were quickly able to do so and re-established themselves as a prestigious military organization. Their primary goal, which they succeeded in doing, was securing the free travel between cities from those criminal gangs. The Brigade largely avoided politics. However, their actions enabled the various Tyrian states to grow economically and build armies of their own, which they would turn on each other. The rebuilt Korinthos and the state of Vorei in particular came to dominate due to their strategic economic locations. Eventually the whole of Tyras would be acquired and divided by the Vorei and Korinthion kingdoms. The Tyrian Brigades found themselves with another mission crisis: Tyras had been pulled from the anarchic chaos that immediately followed the Great Winter, and there were too powerful armies to enforce the new rule of law. What point was there in having the Brigades? In 112RE, the Ethinikos Accords were signed with the Vorei kingdom. Per the treaty, the Tyrian Brigades and the Vorei Kingdom would effectively merge to conquer the Korinthion Kingdom to form a Tyrric Union, of which the Tyrian Brigade would become the national military of. Up to this point, they still officially referred to themselves as the 10th Brigade Combat Team, but had grown to be much larger than a brigade. Per the Ethnikos, the Vorei military was absorbed into the Tyrian Brigade which would be renamed the Tyrric Armed Forces. Due to the mythical and god-like stature of the Tyrian Brigade, there was little will among the Korinthions to resist the Vorei invasion. The merger of the Vorei and Korinthion Kingdoms to form the Tyrric Union was nearly bloodless. Edited by Osafune, May 23 2013, 09:07 AM.
