Jandrean TV Channel Returns to Dúchaish Hands The Nuncathrach Times The Jandrean ownership of Dúchaish Television, also known as DTV1, is probably living its last days. A financial company owned by Maeleachlainn Díoltóir has officially declared its interest in the television channel during this week. It has been revealed that the mentioned financial company had tried to convince the Jandrean owners to agree a friendly acquisition during months. Although the initial offer divided the shareholders, according to our sources, the board of directors rejected to cooperate with the Dúchaish group. This led to Díoltóir to consider a more aggressive way. The Dúchaish group decided then a hostile takeover of the media company, which has increase the pressure over the shareholders of the company. It is believed that the acquisition of DTV1 will be declared officially during the next weeks. Maeleachlainn Díoltóir is a businessman from the State of Laidirghan, and has a long experience in the financial sector. But he's probably better known as Tadhg Díoltóir's brother, the owned of Federal Press. Federal Press, the media company which owns the center-left newspaper 'The Calfort D'Aios Daily Times', the second more important newspaper of the capital city, between others. Federal Press, and specially 'The Calfort D'Aios Daily Times', has become the main supporter of the Socialist Government of President Fionnagain in the last years, and many believe that this business movement is nothing more than an attempt to the Government to increase its influence in the media sector. However, the Government has rejected such affirmations, and it has declared that the Government will keep a neutral stance in this issue, as in any other financial investment. However, the takeover is certainly a surprising movement, as Maeleachlainn -unlike his brother- had criticized harshly the Socialist economic policies of the Government in public, although he declared a more positive position about the foreign and cultural policies of Fionnagain's Government, and one of the few business leaders who considered that the so-called Federation of the Jintikian Sea could have a positive impact on Dúchaish economy. ![]() Official logo of Dúchaish Television (DTV1) Dúchaish Television was a State-owned public television channel until 383, when it was privatized and acquired by Jandrean investors. The new owners turned the channel from a mostly news and documentary based into a general channel catering for all audiences. It showed mostly popular films, series and sport. More recently, DTV1 became famous for its reality shows, experiencing a substantial ratings boost thanks to them, although many criticized its low quality, banality, and vulgarity of its mentioned programming. Excepts from an Interview with Damhait Fionnagáin, President of the Federal Republic of Talamhle Chéile The Talamhle Chéile Herald The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "We would like to start with the economic situation. Does the Government where's going, seriously?". President Fionnagáin: "Certainly, we do. We inherited a very bad economic situation, a critical one, from the previous Government. Not only from the previous Government, to tell the truth, but from decades of a policy of banking and financial deregulation, which led to the banking crisis. But our Government acted quickly and severely, and although the economic could be still in a difficult situation -I like to say the truth- it's certainly improving, and correcting some of the mistakes of the past". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "Which mistakes...?". President Fionnagáin: "The rising inequality, the weakness of the State to answer people's needs and demands, the protection to an unbalanced social system...". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "Ah, I see...But seriously, couldn't it have been done in a different way? The Government policy of nationalizations at the beginning of the so-called "Economic Recovery Plan", was mostly viewed as a unnecessary and arbitrary measure which damage foreign investment in our country". President Fionnagáin: "No, it's not true that our Plan was arbitrary at all. The Government only intervened where there was the risk of a unjustified lose of jobs, it's one of the main task of any Government to protect its workers, the majority of its citizens, in order to reduce the unemployment rate". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "Viewed, I said. Another usual critique against your Government, one which our newspaper shares, is the increasing power of the worker unions since you were elected President of the Republic. Many economic experts have alreadly point out the worrying decrease in productivity in our national companies". President Fionnagáin: "I don't see in that way...During decades, the worker and professional unions were marginalized from public policy. They are an important part of any civil society, we believe, as they represent thousands of workers. We're balancing the situation, which will have a positive influence in our economy, not the contrary, I believe. Salaries are increasing, which are increasing the national consumption. Business leaders should adapt to the new situation, as most of them are already doing, as it will have a positive impact in the national economy and their own companies. Our Government is trying to cooperate with them too, where that's possible, and I have to say most of them, or at least an important number, is having a positive and collaborative role". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "I'm sure you're not talking about the already hundreds, and probably thousands, of business leaders and celebrities who have left the country in order to avoid the excessive taxation your Government has introduced". President Fionnagáin: "I feel you're exaggerating the number, certainly. Probably you should check your sources...". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "There is no need. Our newspaper has already informed our readers about dozens of such cases". President Fionnagáin: "Right...if you prefer focusing in the anecdotes...Anyway, they haven't been an important number at all. Our Government hasn't introduced an excessive taxation at all, but a average and responsible one. Only a bunch of people was affected by the maximum rate introduced. Our nation is a collective project, and an effort is required by all citizens. Once the economy improves considerably, such number could be probably revised. Meanwhile, I feel the people will appreciate what they're paying. We've introduced a social security, a public and free education for everyone, which would lead a better formation and professionals, several economic and cultural projects, a slowly introduction of universal and public health service, as we promised, and many other projects". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "Well, Mrs. President, it's time to deal with the foreign policy of your Government". President Fionnagáin: "Yes, Of course". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "Since you were elected, we've seen how the relations with the East Urocan nations have worsened, while many views with concerns the suddenly creation of a supra-national entity in the Jintikian Sea. There is a general feeling that your foreign policy is quite erratic, an example of an unpractical idealism, while the Socialist Party plays with the taxpayers' money". President Fionnagáin: "I disagree. In the first case, our Government only defended our national interests and national sovereignty. This could lead, sometimes, to conflict and disagreement, but nothing serious. It happens often, and the relations with such Government will improve, I'm sure, always that they adopt a more fair and responsible position. But I hope they'll do. It happens that the previous Dúchaish Government were too ready to sacrifice the national sovereignty for almost nothing. But we're changing that course". "About the Jintikian Project, we believe it will help the national economy -as it will benefit theirs too- and it's a serious contribution with the peace in Zaroca, I'm sure about it". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "While your Government -or some prominent members of your party, at least- often denounces the ambitions of the Democratic Union regarding to Talamhle Chéile, it has an increasing relation with the so-called Trilateral Alliance, led by Communist Falsean Republic, and formed by other similar regimes. You talk often about a "principled policy", but your Government seems likely to associate itself with States which are far from the democratic standards about basic freedoms and human rights. It's a position difficult to understand, and I'm sure if you're able to understand why many people consider worrying such position". President Fionnagáin: "It's always difficult to find some balance between the balance of national interests and a responsible policy. But we don't believe our position could be considered a reprehensible one, as we have never renounced to any of the core principles of the Federal Republic. On the contrary, the experience of our Government is proving that the principles of Democratic Socialism are compatible with the practice of representative democracy, even improving the independence and quality and that democracy...And although we respect their national sovereignty, I believe that, in the long-term, that will make understand there's nothing to afraid about democratic institutions. They should be not only a mean, but one of the main principles and aims of the socialist movement, we believe". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "One of the more controversial positions of your international policy, even before you were elected as President of the Federal Republic, was the relations with the Länlanian Commonwealth. The Socialist Party first, and later under the banner of the Left Front, were opposed to Länlanian military bases in our territory. Are you considering a change of your policy regarding the Länlanian bases?". President Fionnagáin: "Not really. We consider them a unjustified and illegal violation of our national sovereignty, and our position is mostly the same?". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "Mostly? Anyway, many consider there is a huge hypocrisy your supposedly principled position about our national sovereignty when Odharnait Dohndhubhán is the First Secretary of your organization, I believe". President Fionnagáin: "Your question surprises me, really. I think she has already answered that question several times. We believe, as the same Cuinn's Government did during the Crisis of Glas, that Mrs. Dohndhubhán didn't do anything reprehensible, from any constitutional, legal, or even moral point of view, and she her position during the first days even had a positive influence for the solution of the conflict...In any case, it's well established that she hadn't any kind of role during the rest of the conflict....But I'm still surprised about that question, somehow". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "You've to admit we find some paradox, as you're denouncing in the Dáil 'her positive influence' as a member of the Social Democratic Party, right?". President Fionnagáin: "..." [Mrs. Fionnagáin avoided to comment] The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "Anyway, will it be a national referendum about the Länlanian bases, as you promised? Even in the opposition, many remain skeptical if you'll dare to do it. And I believe that in Länlania many probably have a similar position". President Fionnagáin: "We promised, so there will be a referendum on that issue before my first term as President ends. Maybe many are skeptical that some politician keeps her electoral promises, but we've been clear. There will be a national referendum, yes". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "And what will you do the next day, as President of the Federal Republic, if the Dúchaish People votes against the Länlanian bases?". President Fionnagáin: "We're talking about a international treaty, so immediate resolutions aren't easy, certainly. However, we believe that the voice of the Dúchaish People should be heard, as we promised, and we also hope an agreement could be achieved in that issue, without more consequences". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "Do you really think our young Republic needs a constitutional reform?" President Fionnagáin: "As the short political crisis in 312 proved, our Constitution need some improvement in order to act quickly and correctly when the situation is required. So we believe it needs such improvement, and we're discussing with the rest of political forces. I hope some important consensus will agreed. But it's not I'm seeking 'increasing Presidential power', as someone in the opposition said...We'd like to include more check & balances, specially about the election of independent committees and positions, and a improvement in transparency and control of the Government". The Talamhle Chéile Herald: "A last question, will you seek a reelection as President of the Federal Republic in 315?". President Fionnagáin: "Seriously, I haven't a definitive answer your that question right now. I'm already busy, as the rest of our Government, in improving the life of the Dúchaish people. But I'd say it's likely. It's, however, a collective decision between all the members of the Socialist Party and the Left Front. They'll decide". |

Referendum on Länlanian Military Bases Approved by Dúchaish People The Calfort D'Aios Daily Times, Autumber 314 As official information has been just released, the national referendum on the Länlanian military presence in the territory of the Federal Republic of Talamhle Chéile was passed by a clear majority of the popular vote. 76.3% of the votes supported Fionnagáin's Government proposal, which ask for the negotiation of the current Dúchaish-Länlanian Treaty of Trabám, in order to achieve a immediate and complete withdrawal of Länlanian Military from our national soil. The result wasn't identical nationwide, however. Meanwhile in the Glas Island the proposal has supported by around a 56.98% of the population, in the Larnach Island, it was supported between a 79.91% and 92.05% of the population. Although the referendum won't have an immediate effect, as it's not binding legally, it's believe that the Dúchaish-Länlanian relations could be soon in a difficult situation again. Uaithne Noyle, member of the Executive Committee of the Left Front -the ruling electoral coalition- declared that the referendum is nothing but "a victory of the Dúchaish People for Sovereignty and Peace". The declaration took place in the headquarters of the Socialist Party in Calfort D'Aios. "Never again foreign bases on Dúchaish territory, never again a sale of the flag!", he shouted to the thousands of Socialist supporters who gathered around the headquarters of the ruling party, many of them waving Talamhle Chéile and red flags. The Dúchaish Parliament should decide now if they break unilaterally the Dúchaish-Länlanian Treatry, or it's tried a renegotiation with the Länlanian Government instead. Aoife Dáiteroy, Minister of Federal Affairs, declared before the results was known, that "it's unlikely that Länlanian bases are gone as soon as the referendum is approved, as international treaties -even controversial ones like this- are serious business and they require a detailed approach", he assured. "But we don't doubt that the will of the citizens of Talamhle Chéile will be heard, and the Länlanians are aware that the sovereign decision of the Federal Republic will be always the last voice". |
