"Hi Chelsea," a voice said, towering over her as she sat in the music room organizing her notes for later. She knew who it was before she even looked up, but she found herself involuntarily standing to face him. "I thought I was hallucinating when I saw you this morning." The young man shook his head. "No hallucination. Just me." Chelsea had been thinking about this moment for three years, but now that it had come, there was only one thing she really wanted to do: she slapped him hard across the face. "The last time I saw you, you were sitting in a hospital bed with a bullet in your arm. You didn't think that maybe, just maybe, I'd want to see you before you hopped on a flight across the country?" He grabbed hold of her arms so she couldn't hit him again. "My dad handed me a plane ticket the second I stepped foot outside of the hospital, Chelsea. There was no way for me to tell you anything." "You could have sent me a postcard!" "A lot of programs for troubled teens don't allow contact with the outside world. You're my best friend, Chelsea. You really think I would purposely stop talking to you?" Chelsea took a deep breath. "I didn't know what to think. You were just... gone," she said, her voice betraying a hint of sadness as she recalled the day his parents finally told her that they'd sent him away. Letting go of her arms, he pulled her into a hug. "I missed you, Jay," she told him, and then smacked the back of his head. "What took you so long?" Forward to BCSA Dormitories |
