Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about Canuck pottery and a 5 inch duck that they possibly made in the 1950s. Its red and black, I believe it may be called evangeline.

???

I collect Viking Glass from New Martinsville, West Virginia. The interesting thing is, this duck was also made in glass by Viking between 1964 and 1974, clearly after the 1960 fire at Canuck.

!!!

My assumption thus far is that at some point Viking got ahold of this 5 inch duck mold from Canuck. I would be greatly interested if anyone has any information. I will be posting pictures tomorrow. For now, I will post a picture of a Viking duck. Hopefully tomorrow I can post side by side comparisons.

Thank you!

Hi, I think you are right in saying your duck is a piece of Canuck evangaline ware. All I can offer though is that it would appear from the colour of the clay, that your duck was produced in the St John factory. After the move to the new factory in Labelle Quebec they were using a Mocha coloured clay. According to the info on www.canadianpotteryidentifier.com the move took place in 1964, so that would date your duck earlier than that.

Check out the following post to see an example of the mocha coloured clay used at the Labelle factory.

Thank you! I knew the duck had to be older than 1964, because thats when Viking started making the ducks from that mold. I just needed some confirmation from someone who knows more about pottery.
