Yes, that's me in a toga.
Crap couple of days. Have a bad coughing fit thanks to a particularly persistent cold. Taking antibiotics. As a result I couldn't go to my work's cruise last night. Of all the work xmas parties to miss it had to be my very last one.

Going down to Canberra! I still have the job waiting for me there!

Okay. Antibiotics didn't work. Found out at hospital that I had early stages of pneumonia. Crap. Am taking more powerful antibiotics. Feeling better, but cough still kinda around. Head's all fuzzy from the temperatures I've had, and now I think it's from the drugs.

Today's random thought:

Nothing says Australian Christmas more than a clearly pissed John Howard on evening talkback radio chatting to Stan on his last night.

Hey, hope you're feeling better, Schnapps, and those drugs are finally doing their job :)

here's a random question

in layman's terms, what's the difference between a USB & ethernet connection?

I think it's that the USB connectiom uses the USB port, whereas the Ethernet uses a telephone like cable system (multiple wires).

i've generally used the USB connection for my internet in the past but my new ISP has suggested that I use ethernet instead [which i have] but i haven't noticed much difference...is it supposed to be quicker? I'm just wondering if there is an obvious advantage to having it [i've obviously missed it  ].

i changed from DSL [with USB connection] to ADSL [with ethernet connection] and i think it's actually slower now, even though it should essentially be the same as i've had before ????? i'm fairly IT literate but this time round has been a little frustrating

The difference between the two in regards to internet connections is that an Ethernet connection is generally used in regards top networks while a USB is for attaching external devices. While an Ethernet device can transmit information quicker, the difference won't be noticeable unless you have a connection speed of greater then 10-20 MBs.

The actual difference is that on an Ethernet connection the device itself can recognise that the computer is on itself while a USB connection will be recognised by the computer. The practicality of this is that the internet will connected by the time you are logged in on an Ethernet connection while a USB will take little time afterwards to finish connecting.

I'm sure the speed difference is all in your head :D

Hope that explains it.

I'm kinda alive, thanks Anarch. I still have a cough but not as bad as before. Might need to ask the doc whether I need another chest x-ray.

Been busy past few weeks finding a place in Canberra. Have just got back from a day trip down there. I've finally secured a kick-ass 2 bedroom unit with ensuite and other goodies. Flatmating with my cousin. The Canberra property market is really tight- you have to fight over whatever decent rental is out there like a pack of mangy, rabid wolves.
