Yes... Frontline did suck balls (and not in a good way). But The Late Show was, in my not-so-humble opinion, the funniest thing ever on Australian TV.

I especially loved the news segments. Yassir 'Yes, sir' Arafat, Desmonf Tutu, John 'I challenge the Prime Minister' Hewson, Imran 'Like a Tiger' Khan, Jeff 'My car's the one with the flag on the bonnet' Kennet. All piss funny. Apologies for all of the spelling mistakes there...

I have the feeling only Schnapps will get any of that...

I've got the Champaigne Edition of The Late Show on DVD  . Hilarious stuff from the early 90s. Too bad it didn't keep going :( .

Speaking of that Molvania book, there's a website for it too (can't remember its URL). But Santo dresses up in some weird space gear for a music video clip parody, aptly titled "Molvania's Eurovision Song Contest entry".

Santo's grandfather (his name is Nono) appeared in a superman costume, as Santo who was made elderly by Judith Lucy's Rejuvinator machine, and played a lot of ethnically stereotyped elderly characters. One of my favourite regular skits was 'Shitscared!' with Rob Stich and Mick Molloy

-I loved the Late Show (even though I was 8 at the time).

-I actually found "Molvania" in the Travel section of a couple of Tasmanian bookshops when it was first released

-That Rejuvinator skit was wacky

favourite quote: "Well, I guess we won't be needing the Graham and the Colonel wig now" Tony Martin

I actually have all three of the "Best Bits of the Last Show" videos.

-Shitscared was the most funniest as it was that stupid.

-Graham and the Colonel: can only be rivaled by Roy and HG for best sports satire.
My favourite skit was where Graham had to put down the "christmas tree" horse during the Midday Show.

I'm about to start a separate section in The Front Bar for the Late Show

TO go back a bit... they put dangermouse on screen in the students union during a night once but everyone stopped and watched it, so they never did that again.

The porn during the fetish night got less response! (more of a fetish themed fancy dress, this time I shall go as Abe lincoln a la gaybar video)

I was only 11-12 years old when I watched The Late Show, but at that moment I was convinced I'd seen the most piss-funny Australian comedy to ever grace the realm of TV. Ever. The crew have a commentary on the Late Show DVD, and that's pretty good as well, even if it does drag out (there's almost 6 hours of stuff all up from volumes 1,2,3 and extra bits).

The news desks were great. Tommy G carried it off well. Some quirky jokes with a bit of leftover stock footage cut-outs, and an interview with Rob impersonating someone. Rob Sitch did a pretty streaking impression of Gareth Evans, and his impressions as Tutu and Arafat made a little better with a cameo from Santo (like using Arafat's headgear like a dishcloth).

Other than Shitscared, Mick's Serve was a riot  !. He only did three and I only remember seeing two of them. If you wanna see a guy ranting off his nut then he's the man. He followed up as a 'commentry/opinion' at the end of Tommy G's news bit.

...and now that I remember it, Shirty the Slightly Aggressive Bear was also a riot. There was an episode where you find out that Shirty is actually played by Russell Crowe (how apt...what a coincidence  ) but wasn't on the DVD :( .

You gotta buy the DVD for it. The commentary makes it even more priceless. Such as the number of complaints they received for the duration of the show, and even at the beginning of the first episode.

Favourite newsdesk moments:

-Caddick bowled by Akram: "No reason in particular, I just love seeing Caddick get bowled"

-Gareth Evans pissed

-The faulty Mistral fan

- The sniffer dog that found the crack cocaine, and started to lick it: "and, I believe he is still chasing space shuttles, as we speak . . ."

- Imran Kahn: "Like A Tiger", and Buttros Buttros Gahli (name may be wrong) and the window wiper

- Prime Minister and Prince: "It's the man on the left, I believe"

This show actually helped me remember all the names of significant political figures when I was in grade 2 and 3 through satire.

Over 50 posts on these forums today. Mind you, I've posted half of them.

But more to the point, the forums are beginning to thrive again.
