I can't wait to get back to Bnedigo. Stall is a nice place but I miss the metro culture that Bendigo offers (albeit in small quantities)

sounds like it'll be a good move, G

hoping to get to Melbourne next month for a weekend

we have a Persian Bazaar not far from us - i can go to an inner city deli and pay like $59.95 per kilo for dried figs or i can drive to one of our local ethnic grocers (we've got lebanese, korean, chinese, african, etc) and buy the exact same specialty product (these are not like the ones you can get at Woolies) for maybe $19.95 a kilo.

Brisbane is not a massive city but its very multi-cultural if you know where to go - the food is just outstanding.

I'm going to an Iftar dinner next month - its the traditional celebration dinner that marks the end of Ramadan (Muslim time of fasting/prayer). My work has close links with the local Islamic community so I got an invite to come along and share the meal. The food they put on is amazing.

How on earth did this picture make it into the papers?

http://tools.themercury.com.au/photo-gallery/photo_gallery_popup.php?category_id=4381&offset=11

Here's a 20 year old guy, who jumps into the water to save a dog, and the picture they post of him turns out to be more revealing than expected . . .

Here's the actual photo:

This whole story makes me rage as its a prime example of what I like to call "bravepitity". No matter how brave the man on the right was for rescuing the dog its stupid to risk your life by going for a swim in a raging urban waterway, during a heavy storm to rescue a dog. The fact that the rescuer was a professional swimmwer makes him more of an idiot because he should know better.

My actual random thought (rather than me ranting on how things suddenly become newsworthy . . .):

Went to the Salvador Dali exhibition on Wednesday, and found it very interesting.

I'm wondering if it was possible to buy the buttered popcorn flavour "jelly belly" jelly beans at cinemas instead of actual buttered popcorn . . .

likes buttered popcorn flavoured jelly beans . . .
