Yes, that's me in a toga.
Thought for the day. It's freaking hot in Canberra, but not half as bad as it is in Adelaide.

G, I would give you every drop if it would make those awful fires disappear. Hope you and yours are well and safe.

all in all the fires here have been a lot less devistating than they should have been thanks to the vallient efforts of the CFA. Its verry much due to thier skill that the loss of poperty and life was not cataclismic.

i agree, the CFA are true heroes in my eyes - while i know they aren't in their roles for any sort of reward, i believe they are owed enormous gratitude for their courage and selflessness

My random thought- I am so going to have my next holiday in the Melbourne CBD. Haven't been to Melbourne for about 10 years, but had to go there on Sunday at the last minute for work. I'm still proud of myself for my hotel choice - smack bang in the heart of the city, in particular the restaurants and shopping centres. All I need now is the money to do some retail therapy and at the same time do my bit to stimulate the local economy.

Fair call, but that's always the way, whether it be a handout or a tax break, it's hard to ensure that everyone is not only covered, but fairly covered.

People being fairly covered by this hand out is not really the important issue. More important are those not covered by welfare. This hand out is intended to stimulate the economy and it will do as good a job regardless of who gets it.

The homeless, who are usually the mentally ill who fell through the cracks (or were just evicted from institutions and forgotten) who are most overlooked

don't get me started on the state of our mental health services and the gaping wholes through which thousands have fallen

i work with a place for youth with severe mental health issues - guess how many beds it has?
